Chapter 13
Chapter
Thirteen
Desiree walked into Max’s office hearing a woman disrespecting Max and accusing him of having issues with getting his dick up. She’d heard enough of this bitch’s issues.
“Detective Caldwell, please enlighten me on his so-called body count. Considering both of my brothers and Tiny know him very well and I’ve known him for quite some time.
As for his dick not working when he’s around you, that sounds like a you problem because when he’s with me, trust me, it works very damn good. ”
Desiree walked over to Max and leaned down to kiss him passionately. She couldn’t help the laugh that bubbled out of her when she heard both of her brothers gagging in the background.
“You really don’t believe he could be behind the attacks against you? Stupid woman.” Tamra huffed as she glared at Desiree.
“No. I don’t. Max wasn’t anywhere near either one, as I’m sure he’s already told you about his whereabouts for each one.
My brothers, his brother, and Uncle Sam can verify.
Well, can verify that he wasn’t stateside for one of them and was in a classified meeting since you don’t have a high enough clearance to know anything.
” Desiree smirked at the woman as she sat on the arm of Max’s chair.
Desiree stared the woman down as she fidgeted, moving side to side. She was trying to figure out this woman’s angle and why she wanted to pin the attacks on Max.
She’d reach out to Nightshade when she left here to have her to look into this detective. Something didn’t sit right with her where this woman was concerned.
Even if it was the fact the woman didn’t like rejection. She hoped for this bitch’s sake that’s all it was.
“I’ll verify his whereabouts. I’d be careful if I were you. Max doesn’t do commitment.” Tamra smiled sweetly at Desiree.
“Oh honey, he does commitment. Just not with you. I think that’s your whole problem.
You’ve been chasing him since you were a love-struck teenager and he wouldn’t bite the worm you dangled.
The fact he’s chosen me to be the one he settles down with just irks the hell out of you.
Maybe if you actually did your job instead of focusing on the one you have a vendetta against, you might actually figure out who is trying to take me out.
Especially since that list is kind of long.
” Desiree winked at the woman as she draped an arm around Max’s shoulder.
“Is there a reason you’re here, Ms. Lewis? I thought this was a military base. You’re not military.”
“Neither are you. See, like my big brother and Tiny over there, I’m former military.
I still have some deep ties to the Army.
I was actually here to have lunch with Max, but you deemed you were more important with your false allegations.
Might want to actually do some homework before you wind up with more egg on your face. ”
“Careful, Ms. Lewis. I might have to send gangs your way since your “friends” all tend to get themselves in trouble once in a while.”
“And you’re done here. I’ll be filing a complaint with your captain and the chief.” Jose turned the detective around by her shoulder and escorted her out of Max’s office with Tiny following close behind.
“Huge fan you have there.” Desiree smirked down at Max.
“Yeah, her sister was a huge fan of Tiny’s. He couldn’t stand her either. Whole family thinks the world revolves around them. Last I heard the sister was an alcoholic who is doing a stint in prison for drinking and driving. How she became a cop is beyond me.”
“Watch your back with that one.”
“So, lunch huh?” Max asked as he pulled her into his lap and kissed her on the lips.
“Yep. Is it too late? Not sure when you guys take your lunch breaks when you’re stateside.” Desiree wrapped her arm around Max’s neck.
“Hello, I’m still standing here.” Teddy waved his arm at Max and Desiree.
“Do you hear something?” Desiree asked, scrunching up her nose as she pretending to look around.
“Nah. Probably a gnat buzzing around.” Max winked at her.
Desiree burst into laughter when her brother muttered a few curse words their way and slammed Max’s office door behind him. He was so easy to mess with sometimes.
Just a huge old teddy bear at heart. She’ll make it up to him later.
“So, have you eaten yet?” Desiree asked Max as she refocused her attention back toward him.
“No. What did you have in mind for lunch?”
“Well, how about we go to that Mexican restaurant that Glory was talking about? She says the food is really good there.” Desiree suggested as she moved to get up.
“That works. Let me let the guys know where I am in case something pops off. Do you want me to see if Teddy wants to go? I know he hasn’t eaten yet either.” Max offered with a shrug.
“You want to invite my baby brother to our lunch date?” Desiree asked, looking at Max in confusion.
Desiree couldn’t help the laugh when Max looked back at her in confusion for a couple of seconds before he caught her meaning. She wanted alone time with him in the middle of the day, just the two of them.
When he pulled her in for a passionate kiss, she giggled like a schoolgirl getting attention from the high school heart throb. Damn this man steals her breath every time he pulls her into his arms.
Too bad they were in his work office, although that would be a nice fantasy to enact. Especially when it could remind him of her every time he stepped foot in here.
One of these days she’ll come by a little better prepared for that fantasy. Today, she wanted food and Max.
Food would have to come first while she was spending time with him. Maybe later tonight she could probably persuade him to make her dessert.
