Chapter 15

Recovery

Icould hear her crying in the room and every molecule of my body wanted to break down the door and gather her up in my arms. Her hurt and sandess filtered through the bond in minute amounts and I knew she was trying to block it.

Aiden's concern and Mace's worry came through, too, just before my phone buzzed with a text message in our shared chat.

Aiden: What's going on with our girl?

Me: She's crying. Said she'd never get what she wanted in life.

Mace: Tell her we'll get it for her.

Me: I don't think she wants anything bought, asshole.

Aiden: We have to keep trying. She's not going back to the center for another pack.

I leaned against the railing outside the room and waited. Now that she knew I was out here, there was no point in hiding. So, I tortured myself by standing there and listening to her cry until she fell asleep.

Sheer panic shot through the bond and I could almost hear Liora screaming.

Jerking upright in bed, I stared into the darkness, waiting for some sign that she was okay.

I'd come home after Aiden replaced me hours ago, but now I was feeling the terror coming directly from Liora.

She was so scared. I'd never felt her this terrified before, not even in the bits and pieces we caught while she was with her other pack.

"What's happening?" I heard Mace shouting. He must be on the phone with Aiden.

Leaping out of bed, I threw open my door in time to see Mace running toward the front door in his pajama pants. I followed, acutely aware that the panic was barely subsiding. What was going on?
