Chapter 1
CHAPTER ONE
This is going to fucking suck, I think miserably as I step out of my father’s car.
“Have a good day, Geni!” he calls out as I begin to walk up the concrete path toward the front door.
Eastwood Hills Tech didn’t sound so bad when he told me about it, but now that I’m looking at an imposing brick building, I’m feeling a little apprehensive.
Making friends isn’t something I’ve ever been good at, but I’ve never cared either.
The problem is that I know he and my mother are expecting me to at least try to make some.
__
I shift uncomfortably in my chair during homeroom.
It seems that Mother Nature has decided to wreak havoc on my first day at a new school.
I’ve been trying to figure out a subtle way to get the teacher’s attention without hollering that my crotch is bleeding.
In frustration, I rip a page out of my notebook and scribble the urgency of my situation inside of it, then begin to meticulously fold it into a paper airplane.
I’m hoping that this doesn’t fail, but I don’t know what else to do at this point.
Taking a deep breath, I lift my ass an inch off the chair, then pull my arm back, before I hurl it toward the teacher’s desk.
Of course, I think miserably as it lands in the second row of desks.
I watch as a hand reaches down for it, then begins to unfold the message, wishing that the floor would just open up and swallow me.
The guy that’s been leaning so lazily in his desk starts to inspect the room, and just as he’s about to look at me, I duck down quickly and drop my head down.
I’m not embarrassed about having my period. I’m just simply mortified that my introduction to this person is about having blood-soaked panties.
I get to my feet and quickly wrap my jacket around my waist once he goes back to his no fucks given demeanor.
Picking up my backpack, I hold my books closely to my chest and walk toward the door.
“Excuse me,” the teacher says, “Where are you going?”
“The nurse,” I reply testily.
“Sit back down in your chair until you learn to ask permission,” he barks at me.
I hold his level stare for a moment, then shake my head.
“Listen—”
“Write me up,” I shoot back at him. “I’m going to the nurse.”
Without another second of hesitation, I push open the door and walk quickly toward the front of the school hoping that’s where I’ll find the person I need.
And if that’s not the right place, then I’ll keep walking until I make it back home where I can die of embarrassment in the safety of my own bedroom.
