Chapter 64

CHAPTER 64

HAYES

T he desperation, the passion, the raw need—it consumed me like a wildfire. All rational thought escaped me. I could think of nothing more than getting inside her. I wanted to feel that sweetness hugging my cock.

She shivered under my touch and her hips undulated under my hand as my fingers worked inside her. Watching it undid me. I wanted to give her everything. I kissed her deeply, plundering her mouth as my fingers delved into her slick heat. I curled them just right, wanting to prolong her ecstasy.

“Yes!” Dixie gasped. “Hayes!”

The sound of my name on her lips spurred me. I ground my erection against her thigh, seeking relief. But it wasn’t enough. Not nearly enough.

Frantic, needy hands shoved at my pants until I kicked them off impatiently. Dixie licked her lips as she ran appreciative eyes over my straining boxers.

“I need you,” she breathed.

Desperation gripped me, coiling tight in my gut. I hooked my fingers in the sides of Dixie’s panties and ripped them away in one fierce tug. She cried out at the sudden move but clung to me greedily.

“That was so hot,” she panted as her fingers traced down my back.

I gasped at her touch, grabbing her hand and pressing it against my cock. “Here,” I growled. “Feel how hard you make me. How bad I want you.”

“Hayes,” she breathed, stroking me through the fabric. The sensation made me hiss and jerk into her hand. “I need you inside me. I want to feel you without any barriers again. It was nice by the fountain, but I’m not going to lie, that stone digging into my back was not great.”

I chuckled softly. “Sorry about that. I can’t resist you.”

“Don’t apologize,” she said. “It was glorious. I loved every bit of it. I want it again. Now. Just on the mattress.”

Her words drove me wild with lust. I yanked down my boxers hastily before settling between her spread thighs once more. The head of my cock nudged insistently at her slick entrance. I wanted to take it slow, to savor the moment, but I had a feeling the second her wet heat squeezed my cock, I was going to lose control.

Slowly, I slid inside, filling her. An achingly sweet moan was pulled from the back of my throat. She was tight and hot around me, squeezing me like a glove. Her nails scratched down my back, leaving sharp trails of pleasure and pain.

“You feel so good,” I breathed. “This is heaven. I know it. This is the sweetest feeling in the world.”

“It feels amazing,” she murmured.

I moved slowly at first, savoring the feeling of being inside her. I slid out and then ever so slowly pushed back inside. I had to squeeze my eyes closed to maintain control. It was slipping away. She shifted just an inch to the left.

“Oh fuck,” I gasped. “Don’t move. I’m barely holding on.”

“Okay,” she breathed. “Do you want to change positions?”

I chuckled darkly. “No. This is perfect. Perfect.”

I started to move faster, each thrust claiming more of her as mine. My lips captured hers again, hungrier this time, greedy for the taste of her. She was spicy and I wanted more. No matter how much I wanted this to last all night, there was just no way.

I started to move faster, my body taking over. Instinct demanded I get the release waiting for me. Dixie met my every thrust eagerly, arching into me. Her head thrashed from side to side with her hair fanning out around her head as she looked up at me.

“Harder,” she demanded.

I obliged, thrusting faster and harder into her wet heat until we were moving in a furious rhythm that left us both panting for breath.

“Yes!” Dixie cried out, her nails raking down my back as she urged me on. Every deep thrust sent sparks of pleasure radiating through my body.

“Dammit, I want to make love to you all night,” I groaned.

“Don’t stop,” she gasped, locking her ankles under my ass to draw me impossibly deeper. “I’m so close.”

“I’ve got you, baby,” I growled. “Come for me, Dixie. Let go.”

“Fuck!” she cried out, nails digging into my shoulders as she shattered around me. Her inner walls clamped down on me as wave after wave of ecstasy rolled through her body.

The tension inside me snapped like a rubber band, I could no longer hold back. The feeling of Dixie convulsing with pleasure around me was too much to resist. With a hoarse shout of her name, I came undone.

We stayed like that for a moment, tangled together, breathless and trembling. Dixie’s soft sigh brushed against my neck, her fingers running up and down my back. I kissed her forehead, lingering there, savoring the warmth of her skin beneath my lips.

“You’re incredible,” I whispered, my voice rough with emotion. “Every time, it’s like I can’t get enough of you.”

She laughed softly. “Me neither,” she murmured, tilting her head to meet my eyes. “You ruin me, Hayes. In the best way.”

I brushed a strand of hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear while making sure to keep my weight off her. “Good,” I said. “That makes two of us.”

She shifted slightly beneath me, and I reluctantly pulled away. I stretched out beside her. Her cheek was pressed against my chest, her hair spilling across my skin. My fingers absently played with the strands, twirling them around my fingers before letting them fall back into place.

I couldn’t stop looking at her. Her eyes were closed, her lips curved into a small, content smile. She looked so peaceful, so beautiful, and I felt a surge of emotion. My heart felt very full.

“How are you feeling?” I asked softly, my voice breaking the silence. “I mean physically. Morning sickness?”

Dixie opened her eyes, tilting her head to look up at me. “I feel good,” she said. “Really good. Hormonal, but so far no morning sickness. Not really.”

“That’s good. Maybe you’ll be lucky and not puke your guts out. You said you went to the doctor?”

“I did.”

“How did it go?” I asked.

She rolled to her side, propping herself up on one elbow so she could look at me better. “It went well. Everything’s on track. I have to go back for bloodwork soon, but so far, everything looks good.”

I nodded, my hand resting on her lower back. “That’s great.”

“I heard his heartbeat. Or hers.”

“You did?”

She nodded. “The doctor said it was really early, but things sounded good. I got some books I’m supposed to read.”

“Like what, the Lord of the Rings ?”

Dixie laughed. “No, books about pregnancy, childbirth, parenting… no hobbits. I’m trying to absorb as much as I can. Online blogs and anything I can find.”

“What should I read?” I asked, my tone serious. “I want to be prepared too. I’ve been around kids, but never really had to actually keep them alive. Usually, by the time I’m around them they are at least crawling or walking.”

“There’s a book called The Expectant Father that’s supposed to be really good. I can get you a copy if you want.”

“Please,” I said. “I want to be involved, Dixie. In everything.”

She smiled, her fingers tracing patterns on my chest. “I know you do. And I appreciate that. I’m probably going to use a doula.”

I hesitated for a moment. “Should I know what that is? See, this is why I need to read that book.”

Dixie smiled. “They provide support during pregnancy and childbirth.”

“Do you think you’ll hire one?”

She nodded. “I’m considering it. I think it would be really helpful, especially since this is my first time.”

“Whatever you need,” I said, my tone firm. “I’ll make it happen. Tell me how much. I’m going to make sure you have everything.”

“Thank you, Hayes. That means a lot.”

We lay there for a while longer. It felt good to talk, to connect on a deeper level. I realized how much I’d missed this—missed her.

My hand automatically slid down to cover her belly. “I can’t believe my child is in there. Can he taste the taco you had earlier? Was it too spicy for him?”

“He or she is fine.” Dixie’s hand joined mine pressing gently against the curve of her stomach. “It’s still so surreal,” she said quietly. “Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and just stare at my belly. Like I’m waiting for something to happen. A kick or a flutter or something.”

I chuckled softly. “It’s going to feel real soon enough. When it starts moving around in there, you’ll know it.”

“I can’t believe we’re going to be parents.”

“Me either.” I laughed. “Thank God for aunts, uncles, and grandparents. I need to learn how to change diapers. Hell, I’m not even sure I know how to hold a newborn. Don’t they have floppy heads or something?”

“Well, you have to support their heads, but I wouldn’t call them floppy.” She grinned. “We can figure it out.”

“I’ve seen my brothers do it and they look so natural, but damn, it’s terrifying. They’re so tiny with their little fingers and toes.”

Dixie laughed softly. “It’s instinct—so I’ve read. I’m not worried about you.”

“What about you?” I asked. “You’re the one who’s going to be doing most of the heavy lifting here. What can I do to make it easier?”

“I’ll be fine. I’ve got you. I might change my mind when things get further along, but right now, I’m fine.”

“I’m not going anywhere, Dixie. I’m in this with you, every step of the way.”

“I know,” she whispered. “And that’s what makes this less scary. Knowing that I have you by my side.”

“Are we good?” I asked, needing the confirmation.

“We’re good. I’m willing to take it one day at a time.”

I knew that wasn’t going to be good enough. Not for me. I was determined to pull us all the way back together, to prove to her that she could trust me. Dixie deserved the best, and I was going to deliver.

I leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. “One day at a time,” I agreed. “But I’m going to make every day count.”

“I believe you.”

“Now, go to sleep,” I said. “We’re both running on empty. You’re growing a human and need your rest. I’m sure the doula would tell you the same thing.”

She laughed. “You didn’t even know what a doula was five minutes ago.”

“I still don’t know, but I suspect I’m right.”

“I am pretty tired,” she said.

“I’m staying the night by the way.”

“I hoped you would.”
