19. Heroics
Fred was on a high as he drove Cara to her first appointment the next morning. The car speakers were blasting out the same kind of rock he had heard on his first night on earth, the kind that made him want to dance, and Cara had woken him with a beautiful, deep-throated blow job.
“This is the third time I’ve helped this client move,” Cara explained, running her fingers up and down Fred’s thigh. “I’ve earned so much commission from each of his deals!”
Fred could feel her excitement but struggled to share it.
Money was no object back home, and on Earth he could game his way to wealth whenever he felt like it.
Cara pulled down the visor to check her makeup, and Fred remembered how stunned he was at her perfection that first day they met.
Now he could look forward to messing up that perfection as soon as she had finished her work for the day. Or maybe even before.
Today’s apartment was on the edge of Green Park. The original building was nearly as old as Fred, but three buildings had been knocked through to create the open planned, single floor palace the modern multi-millionaires desired.
Fred parked at the hotel where Cara was meeting her client for a coffee before they visited the apartment.
“You can meet me at the apartment after he’s gone,” Cara purred, running her hand right up to his cock. “Look… I’ve shared my location with you, so you can come and find me.”
They kissed, and Cara stalked off. Fred watched her swinging hips as they disappeared, then looked at the map to decide how to spend the next hour or so.
The map was studded with parks and palaces, and Fred decided to head towards the biggest: Buckingham Palace.
He was getting a feel for London. Everywhere that there was grass, there were people walking their dogs, running for fun, shooting past on terrifying two-wheeled contraptions.
In London people didn’t say hello, or even make eye contact, but mostly, there was no hostility.
He could walk unheeded, invisible, no entourage or expectations.
He was nobody in a way he could never be back home.
When he got to the palace he felt a rush of nostalgia for his own.
The people were never allowed as close to the building as they were here.
He marvelled at all the people pressing up against the fence, taking pictures of the guards, and generally being loud and relaxed.
Where was the respect? Where was the reverence? Where was the fear?
Just as he thought this, a nasty, spider-like tingle crawled up his back and into his brain.
Cara’s in danger!
The thought hit him like a battering ram. He had no idea where it had come from, but he knew it to be true.
Charging in the direction indicated by the app, Fred’s mind ran through all kinds of scenarios.
Had she been attacked? Fallen? He had heard of lovers connected this way, by a magical bond that was triggered by the slightest threat, but he had never before felt it.
Even without looking back at his phone, he knew he was running in the right direction.
He felt the physical tension reduce as he drew closer to where his soul knew she was, but his mental anguish did not abate.
How can I get in? he thought, as he neared the building.
He lifted his arm to shield his face and charged straight through the plate glass window, sliding on the shards of glass that exploded around him. Instinct pulled him on towards the stairs, as alarms rang and the concierge hurried after him.
“Stop! Security are on their way! Stop!” he shouted after Fred, who could hear the noise, but was far too focused on finding Cara to understand.
He found the door he knew she must be behind and barged into it so hard with his shoulder that it split straight down the middle, without creating enough space for him to run through. He listened a moment, and was sure he could hear Cara’s screams on the other side of the door.
“Cara! Cara! I’m coming!” he roared, stepping back further to take a run-up and driving into the door as hard as he could.
As he crashed into the marble-floored, chandelier-lit vestibule, Cara stepped round a door, followed by her client.
“Fred! What on Earth!” she gasped.
Fred stepped towards her, but the horror in her eyes stopped him in his tracks.
“I… I thought you were in danger! No… No… I knew you were in danger! I could feel it!”
Cara turned her back on Fred, and spoke instead to her client.
“I’m terribly sorry. I need to have a few words with my friend here. Would you mind waiting in the bedroom?”
The client, a small, unimposing man, gave Fred a nervous look and skittered out of sight.
“Fred!” Cara hissed. “What on Earth have you done!”
Just as she said this, a burly security guard appeared at the broken door.
“We found the intruder,” he said into a device held close to his mouth. “Send backup!”
Cara pushed past Fred to speak to the guard.
“I’m terribly sorry, sir. There’s been a misunderstanding. My friend here is hoping to be the next great action hero’s stuntman, and decided to practice on this apartment block, while I was working here! Here’s my business card!”
The security guard seemed unconvinced, but shrugged and walked away.
“That was a very stupid and expensive thing to do,” Cara whispered. “You cannot just smash your way into a building where I am working! Even if I don’t lose this sale, any commission I make will go on mending this building. What am I saying? No… No… You can pay for this! Go and wait in the car!”
Cara swished out of the room, and he heard the reconciliatory tones of Cara softening her client back up.
And the tingle started again, scratching into his brain now. Cara must be in danger, or why was this instinct kicking in?
Fred held his breath and crept down the corridor to where Cara was talking to her client. As soon as he saw the client’s lecherous face, he understood. That man’s thoughts were the danger.
Did he really believe Cara was unsafe though? His mind returned to the melted man who had fondled her at the bar, and he breathed a sigh of relief.
She wasn’t safe before she met me. But now she is.
His logic soothed his soul, but couldn’t tame the instinctive, niggling awareness of the danger she should have been in. Before Cara could catch him spying on her, he crept back out of the apartment and walked back to the hotel carpark.
His mind returned to that moment at the checkpoint, and the helpless husband.
Whether or not they had shared the same magical bond he did with Cara, his sorrow and rage at not being able to rescue his wife must have burnt him up inside.
Fred wondered if he ever recovered. He saw that the woman survived the encounter, at least physically, but what of their relationship?
His heart sat heavy in his chest as he waited for Cara to return.
He put the radio back on and was greeted with music that matched his mood: anger and agitation.
He felt the moment that Cara was out of the creepy client’s presence, as the tingle dissolved and the claws of the presentiment of danger retracted back into his spine.
By the time Cara had climbed back into the passenger seat, he was calm enough to smile at her as she sat down.
“I’m sorry,” Cara said. “I couldn’t just leave that important a client. What came over you?”
“I can tell when you’re in danger now,” Fred explained. “I got this horrible feeling down my spine and I had to come and check on you!”
“And you couldn’t just message me?”
Fred fell silent. Why hadn’t that occurred to him?
“I… I… I followed my body! It told me I had to get to you, so I went!”
“That would be really sweet if it didn’t risk me losing my client. Funnily enough though, he did put in an offer, the owner accepted, and he even offered to pay for the damage!”
Because he’d do anything to be with you! Fred fumed internally.
“So I should just ignore it next time?” Fred asked. “Just leave you to your fate?”
“Don’t be silly! You saw what I did to that guy in the bar, and I’ve had training too now! I’m pretty sure I could target my anger even better now! Oh! I forgot to tell you! Shandy messaged to say she’s going to stay over in the apartment!”
Fred’s mind filled with the image of the two women naked on his bed. Cara ran her hand up his leg and found his gathering excitement. She grinned cheekily.
“No more smashing windows, okay? You can just smash us instead!”
Cara caressed his cock all the way to the next appointment. To Fred’s relief he got through the rest of the day without the slightest hint of fear for Cara.
I can’t really beat up every guy who thinks dirty thoughts, he thought to himself as he drove the two girls back to his pent house that evening, occasionally craning his neck to catch a glimpse of what they were up to.
If every man could tell when someone desires their partner, I’d have had armies after me by now!
