Chapter 69
CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE
KNOX
Ihold my hand on Heather's shaking knee as the fight begins. Killian and Grave are in the ring with the announcer between them.
“A fight of all fights. This is the night you’ve been waiting for. A DEATH MATCH!” he screams as the crowd roars with excitement.
“Good luck, gentlemen.”
He’s quick to get out of the ring and away from them both. Killian takes his time, bouncing around as Grave swings three times and misses.
The entire time, I notice him saying something to my brother. No doubt the insults Heather warned us about. Killian doesn’t look in our direction. He keeps his eyes on the piece of shit in front of him.
Grave speaks again, and Killian did not like whatever words were spoken. His face turns red with fury as he loses his composure and goes for Grave. Kill punches him twice in the face, blood pours from his nose.
“He hasn’t landed a punch. That’s good, right?”
I kiss the top of her head while keeping my eyes on the ring.
“Very good, Tesoro.”
Carter holds onto her other leg as she watches the fight with us.
Grave lands a punch to Kill's jaw. It jars him momentarily, but he manages to avoid the attempted jab to his stomach. They do this dance for several minutes with neither of them gaining much, when Grave pulls out a knife from inside his shorts. Heather sees it and screams. Killian spots it, kicks off his shoe and grabs his own. He’s too late.
Grave plunges the knife into his stomach.
Killian grunts loudly and grabs Grave’s leg, pulling him down and stabs him in the chest.
He looks over to Heather and mouths, ‘I won’ seconds before he collapses on the floor, a pool of blood beside him.
Carter places a hand on one shoulder and I place one on the other, knowing she plans to run to him. We knew she would. She cries out, “Someone help him!” Bones comes toward us and stops abruptly. He nods to the door, and at least a dozen men walk in.
Heather gasps loudly, “Noah.”
Suddenly all the men stop in front of us as Heather trembles. They don’t aim guns at her but at Carter and me both. It’s a mind game. One I know Heather will play into.
“Come with us or we will blow their fucking heads off.”
Everything happens in slow motion. Medics take Killian and Grave away. Carter lets out an angry growl when our woman gets to her feet.
The Bonetti men are frozen, awaiting an order. And I—I’m seconds away from losing everything.
