chapter 2
She continued, "My child will be different in the future. He's destined to become a big boss and make lots of money.
"Taylor, as your sister, I advise you to have another child while you're still young.
"Otherwise, if your child really becomes a thug in the future and beats you up, no one will care."
Hearing her mocking words, my nails dug deep into my palms.
If it werent for her constantly beating and scolding Miles, even forcing him to drop out of school and work during middle school, how would he end up homeless, refusing to return home?
The day Evelyn was hit and killed was also the day I discovered the truth about the child swap.
The child I had raised for twenty-five years was suddenly revealed not to be my biological one. At that moment, my mind was in chaos. I wanted to question Evelyn, the hospital's director back then, and, most of all, James.
But what I wanted most at that time was to find Miles, my biological son, the child who had been abused by Evelyn for years.
But before I could meet him, I was hit and killed by Evelyn.
Hearing Evelyn still mocking, Emmett rolled up his sleeves and stepped forward to hit her.
My parents, Stefan Gibson and Vivian Gibson, hurried forward to stop him.
Victor sneered, full of disdain. "Evelyn just made a few jokes, do you really have to take it so seriously? Having relatives like you is embarrassing."
Before he could finish speaking, the hot-tempered Emmett punched him hard in the face.
When he was about to throw another punch, I stopped him. "Let it go, Emmett."
Living another life, I just want to make it up to my poor child.
As for Evelyn, I have my own ways to make her pay; there's no need to rush.
That night, we completed the transfer procedures.
While packing in the ward, I heard whispers from behind the curtain of the next bed.
Evelyn lowered her voice but couldn't hide her joy. "I've been reborn, trust me, our child will be a big boss in the future."
At first, the three were skeptical, but Evelyn spoke so detailedly that they gradually believed her.
After all, anyone would be tempted by the chance to live in a mansion for free and achieve financial freedom.
Stefan and Vivian took turns holding James, as if cradling a rare treasure.
Victor slapped his thigh with joy, his tone full of pride. "My son is still the best!"
When my child was mentioned, Evelyn sneered, "Taylor's son will just be a little thug in the future."
Stefan frowned. "Then let's interact with them less in the future. It'll be trouble if they get tangled up with us."
Vivian agreed, "We must enroll James in a top school in the future. We can't let him be led astray by Taylor's son."
I stood outside the curtain and heard their discussion loud and clear.
Does Evelyn really think James can succeed all on his own?
In my previous life, I always wondered how Emmett and I, both hardworking and motivated, could have a child like James, so cold and selfish.
He has no feelings for Evelyn, his biological mother. If I didnt hold most of the companys shares, he probably wouldnt even bother with us. Big mansions, world tripsdont even think about it.
But now, I just wish to stay as far away from them as possible.
I let out a cold laugh, splashed a glass of water at them, ignored their startled cries, and turned to leave the ward.
This is the first gift I gave to Evelyn.
