chapter 3

With the previous experience, my work at the company has been smooth these past few years, and my promotions have skyrocketed.

Outside of work, I spent all my time with Miles.

In my previous life, under the oppression and abuse of Evelyn's family, Miles learned to smoke and drink early and got into fights at school.

Evelyn never reflected on her problems; she only scolded Miles for lacking ambition.

Teenage Miles became increasingly gloomy and violent, no longer obeying Evelyn's discipline and often staying out all night.

But if that home hadn't broken his heart, how could he have placed his emotions on those street thugs?

I don't ask for my son to be wildly successful in the future; I just hope he can have a happy and carefree childhood.

In this life, with Emmett and me by his side, Miles no longer has the hostility from his past life and looks just like any other happy child.

His personality still resembles Emmett'squiet and cool-tempered.

But maybe because I spend the most time with him, no matter how aloof he seems to others, he relies on me deeply.

He often holds my hand, asking me to take him out to play, or clings to me to teach him to study.

This weekend, as usual, I took him to the mall to buy new clothes.

Looking at the clothes in the mirror, he suddenly raised his head and asked me, "Mom, I don't know why, but I always feel like life now is so good it doesn't seem real."

"Last night, I had a dream where you and Dad disappeared. A woman tied me to a chair and hit me. I bit her, and she slapped me."

"It was clearly a dream, but it felt so real, like I actually experienced it."

He widened his round eyes, looking confused.

I gently touched his head and softly reassured him, "Since it was just a dream, it's already over. Don't be afraid."

"If you have a nightmare again, come to your dad and me right away. Don't keep it to yourself."

He's still young after all. Hearing my words, he nodded, held his new clothes, and smiled again.

But while he was changing clothes, I saw someone from afar through a few rows of shelves.

It's James.

In my previous life, he lived a privileged life with Emmett and me, growing up spoiled from a young age.

In this life, he ended up with Evelyn's family. Although life isn't as comfortable as in the previous life, judging by his attire, he hasn't suffered.

He was holding Victor's hand, but the person beside him wasn't Evelynit was a younger, prettier woman.

They walked over, chatting and laughing, looking like a happy family of three.

Through the shelves, I heard James's tender voice clearly. "My dad is handsome and gentle, and he really likes you.

"Will you be my mom? I promise to be good from now on!"

The woman laughed and asked him, "What about your mom?"

James paused and said, "My mom is ugly and mean, always forcing me to study. She's nothing compared to you."

Victor was beside them, looking down at his phone as if he hadnt heard anything, occasionally glancing up with a smile in his eyes.

He didnt mind at all that his son was speaking ill of his wife.

At this moment, Evelyn was probably at home preparing dinner for the father and son.

Seeing James like this, I wasnt surprised at all.

Because in my past life, he did the exact same thing.

At that time, Emmett opened a boxing club in the city and hired a few young women as secretaries.

These young girls charmed James with just a few words.

After coming home, he beat and scolded me, even humiliated me in public, wanting a younger and prettier woman to be his mom.

Now, in a different family, hes still cold and selfish.

And Victor, clearly, didnt mind and couldnt resist the temptation.

I looked away, took out my phone, and secretly snapped photos of Victor interacting intimately with that woman.

When Miles came out of the fitting room and I was about to leave with him, I suddenly heard a sharp scream. "I'll kill you, you homewrecker!"
