Chapter 4 #2
He laughed. “Too late. I made that promise. I’ll even get him trained for you.” He winked.
I shook my head and moved toward my kitchen. I knew my daughter like the back of my hand. She was on her way out there to ask what was for dinner, even though I knew for a fact that she ate at my mama’s house.
“Mama, what’s for dinner?”
I laughed, shaking my head and looking from Savior to my child.
“Are you staying for dinner, Mr. Savior?” That child just didn’t quit.
“He ha—”
“Sure, pretty girl. What are you cooking?” He smiled down at Kale. His smile was so genuine, and he had a certain genuine expression when he looked down at her.
She giggled. “You’re silly. Mommy is cooking, and since you’re here, you can keep her company.” She giggled before trotting her ass back into her bedroom.
I watched her leave before allowing my eyes to travel back to him. “You know you don’t hav—”
“What’s for dinner, Regancy?” The grin on his face was just as charming as when we were on his boat. Right then, he wasn’t an asshole.
“You’on look like the type to know how to cook.” He drank from the glass of fruit-infused water and looked over at me.
I laughed. “That’s not the first time I’ve heard that, but you learn how to cook when you have to grow up earlier.” I shrugged my shoulders and continued to clean up after dinner.
A comfortable silence filled the room before he stood and walked into my space.
He stood and walked up behind me. Seconds later, his lips went to my shoulder.
He turned me around, and his hands went to my hips, then he lifted me and put me on my counter.
The way his hand went to my neck was almost erotic, but then his lips seized mine.
After a while, he pulled back and continued to look from my eyes to my lips.
Then, as if a realization hit him, he rushed his lips back into mine.
“You want me—”
I would’ve loved for him to stay, but I had my daughter, and this wasn’t serious. I didn’t want to give her the wrong impression or idea. “Nah. Maybe another time.” I found the words spilling from my lips as I looked him over.
He nodded his head in agreeance before pecking my lips once more and stepping back. “Nine in the morning tomorrow for the dog. Come lock up.” With that, he was gone, and I was left in my home, wondering what the hell that was.
It was safe to say I didn’t get any sleep last night, so I got up early that morning and made breakfast as I always did.
Kale liked blueberry pancakes and cheese grits.
She never liked eggs or any bacon with her breakfast. While she ate, I attempted to tame her large mass of hair.
She loved to have it out and wild, but after days like the one before with its humidity, I was left coming through it and trying to wrangle what I referred to as a beast. Kale had long, naturally curly hair with a sandy-brown tint to it, which differed somewhat from my jet-black thick medium-length curls.
I had a habit of cutting my hair when it got too long or to a length where it took me too long to manage it.
“Mama?” She broke my thoughts with the inquisitive tone in her voice.
“Yeah?”
“Is this our home? Like forever?” she asked.
“Possibly. Why?” I wrinkled my face up, wondering where her line of questioning was leading.
“Because even though I miss grandpa, I like it here, and I like spending time with Grandma.”
I nodded, understanding her fear of me shaking up her life again.
I’d already done it once in moving her there, so I understood why she feared me doing it again.
Once I finished the last jumbo twist on her head, I turned her around and looked at her.
“Yes, baby, this is our home. Just like New York is our home. We will visit Pop-Pop very soon.” I leaned forward and kissed her forehead just as there was a knock at the door.
As I stood, my eyes went to the digital clock on my stove, and I smirked.
Not only was he an asshole, but he was punctual.
“Go get your overnight bag and make sure you put two pairs of socks in it so your grandmother doesn’t bite my head off over them. ”
“Okay, Mama.” She took off running toward the back.
Once I had the door open, he stood there just looking at me with a stare that I didn’t recognize. “Yeen make me no breakfast?” he questioned.
“Did you ask for it?” I questioned, moving to the side for him to enter. Even dressed down from his normal suit and tie, that man was fucking heavenly. He had just the right amount of thug and roughness around the edges to keep my underwear lining soaked.
He stepped in, never passing me, and he looked around the empty room before his hand found my neck and his tongue was damn near down my throat. That was some greeting, and I loved every minute of it until he pulled back and walked into my place.
It wasn’t long before Kale came racing into the living room with her backpack and iPad in her hands. “Mama, I’m ready.”
“Do you have socks packed?” I questioned, removing my eyes from Savior and putting them on my daughter.
“But Mama, I hate to wear socks with my sweater shoes.” She pouted, talking about her Yeezys.
For some reason, she hated to call them by their names, but she damn sure loved them.
I guess it was because, unlike most gym shoes, they were comfortable the moment she slipped her feet into them.
She didn’t have to stretch them out or give them a few wears before she liked them.
I chuckled. “Just take a few pairs, Kale. You probably won’t even wear them.”
“Fine.” She ran back into her bedroom. Knowing her, that would take a minute because she had to match her socks with the shoes and outfits, even though she didn’t plan on wearing them. My child was a full-fledged diva.
“Sweater shoes?” Savior’s baritone filled the room, grasping my attention.
I glanced over at him, and he had a confused expression on his face.
“She fancies Yeezys. She doesn’t much care for any other shoes, because she says they’re the most comfortable.
” I shrugged and closed the door. I tidied up the kitchen a little while he watched me until I slipped my jean jacket on and called for Kale.
“Yeen dressed, shorty.” His voice filled the room again.
I looked down at the plain pair of leggings and cami that I wore before my eyes graced the jean jacket that I had just pulled on. How the hell was I not dressed? Confusion was evident in my face until he walked up and pinched at my leggings.
“You wanna see bloodshed and—”
“Really, Savior?” I asked, putting my hand my hip and pursing my lips. “We’re just going to a pet store.”
“C’mon now, shorty. Don’t gimme no lip on this one. Go get some denim. Please.” He was less demanding and instead pleading with me.
I didn’t know why it felt like I conceded, but I did.
Before I knew it, I was walking back toward my bedroom to grab a pair of jeans.
Shit, if he didn’t like my leggings, then he damn sure wouldn’t like my jeans.
I had hips thighs and ass in everything that I wore, so it was close to impossible to hide it unless I had a long shirt and a jacket on.
Once I slipped the dark-wash distressed jeans on, I grabbed a fitted white tee shirt from my closet and slipped on a pair of slides.
Once I walked back into the living room, Kale was showing Savior something on her iPad before she looked up at me. “You always say I’m the late one, Mommy, but we were just waiting on you.”
“Don’t blame ya’ mama, Baby K. That one was on me. She was doing me a favor.” Savior looked up at me, licking his lips.
I went to fetch my purse without another word. I was too busy clenching my thighs together because I, for sure, knew what he did with that tongue, and he did it well. A man like him would definitely be the death of me.
SAVIOR
Usually by then, I would’ve lost interest or moved along when it came to a woman, but at that point, that wasn’t the case.
Ever since that weekend with Regancy, I wanted more.
Something about waking up next to her beautiful ass made me feel like I wasn’t wasting my time.
Matter of fact, falling asleep with her cuddled up next to me was enough to have me murdering every nigga who looked in her direction.
Somehow, she had become a peaceful space that I didn’t know I was looking for until it wasn’t in my reach.
There were plenty of nights that I found myself about to go knock on her door, but I stopped before I could.
I didn’t want anything serious, and she was serious.
I liked my lifestyle the way it was, and I saw how shit like that went.
Niggas met that one bitch, and every-fucking-thing changed.
Then before a nigga could look up, he was like six kids and a dog in.
Why am I even thinking about this shit? I had to chuckle at myself as I stood back and watched her daughter go from dog crate to crate.
For a nigga who didn’t wanna get swallowed up, I found myself doing shit that I didn’t normally do.
The fucked-up thing about it was the fact that instead of fighting shit like I wanted to, I enjoyed it.
I liked the vibe that shorty had, and I liked her kid, even though I’d only been in her presence a few times.
Her daughter was like a mini version of her, and it was hard to even think about the fact that her child was a product of something fucked up happening in her life.
From one glance, I could tell that she had a deep ass love for her child, and that alone made her even stronger.
She had a certain strength in her that most people only dreamed about.
Somehow, some way, I was drawn to it and wanted nothing more than to be in her space.
What would’ve been a day of nonstop work and reckless sex to top it off now belonged to her and her baby girl.
