Chapter 7 #3
“You gone so soon, lord?” Duce asked, leaning over the pillar that separated the section. By then, he had definitely had a bit to drink, so his words were slurred. He also couldn’t hide the hate he had in his eyes for Savior.
Savior nodded. “It was good catching up with you. I’ll catch you another time.” He stood and waited on me before we proceeded to exit the booth. Then we left out the same way we entered, through the back.
Once we were in the comforts of his back seat, he pulled me near, while loosening his tie a little.
“Taurus was right, but I had to see that for myself.” For the rest of the ride, he was so deep in his thoughts with cloudy eyes.
Usually, I knew what to say to people to calm or ease whatever was on their minds, but at that moment, I didn’t know what to say to him, because I didn’t even know what the hell was going on.
LANE
A week had passed, and Taurus was tired of my excuses and the fact that I was dragging my feet.
At that point, it was now or never when it came to the situation with Bash.
So like any other day, I went to work and had a few court hearings before I ended up there.
I was standing in front of Bash’s door, holding the key that he’d given me years ago.
It was time for me to face this, because I believed Taurus when he said he’d kill Sabastian.
Then Sabastian made it no easier with the constant calls, but then again, as far as he knew, I was still his fiancée even though I’d been so busy with work as of lately.
After standing my scary ass at his door for all of fifteen minutes, I finally decided to rip the bandage off.
I needed to get it over with so he could move on with his life.
I jabbed the key into the lock hole before twisting it from side to side and unlocking the door.
Soon, I had the door open, and I was stepping into the place I hadn’t been in a while.
It was different, and it had a more feminine décor to it than I remembered.
If I weren’t there to break things off with him, then I’d surly be getting his decorator’s number.
“Hmph.” I looked around for a few seconds before a sound caught my ears.
Then I glanced down at the floor, and there were clothes leading toward the master bedroom.
I probably would’ve turned around and left had I not been so nosy.
I continued to follow the trail of clothes until I reached Bash’s slightly open door where the sounds were coming from.
It was the sound of masculine grunting and the begging of someone to go harder.
My inquisitiveness got the best of me, and I pushed the door open.
What I thought I’d see wasn’t what I saw.
My jaw hit the ground the moment I laid eyes on my brother, who I hadn’t spoken to in months, leaned across Bash’s bed while Bash plowed into him from behind.
They were in too much of a euphoric state to pay me any mind or even notice that I was there.
I didn’t know how long I was standing there before the irony of the situation caused me to bust up laughing.
I mean, there I was, feeling guilty about what I was doing when that man was fucking my brother, and there was no telling how long it’d been going on.
Sabastian was no victim after all, and neither of us were right in it. We were both settling.
I guess my laughter got their attention because Sabastian looked at me with pure embarrassment on his face as he yanked back from my brother and tried to cover up. Too bad I had already seen it all. “Lane, it isn’t what you th—”
“Yeah right, buddy. Don’t stop on my account.” I turned to leave the apartment, but I heard Sabastian behind me.
“It just happened. Lane, I’m not g—”
That made me turn around. I pointed my manicured finger in his face and decided to give him a piece of my mind because that was definitely a pet peeve of mine.
“Don’t do that. Don’t you dare sit here and tell me you aren’t what you are.
I just watched you fucking my brother, your frat brother, so yes, you are.
Own up to what you are and embrace it.” With that, I turned around and walked out of the door without another word.
I was so grateful that I didn’t send my car service away, because I couldn’t get out of his place fast enough.
Once I reached the car, I pulled my phone out to dial the first person who hit my mind. Regancy always answered for me.
“Yes, honey bunches of oats.” She always came up with cute ass pet names. I guess that was mom shit.
“Where are you? Home or work? Because we gotta talk over vino with a very high percentage of alcohol.”
She giggled. “Oh, Lord, but I’m home, and I already have the bottle.”
“I’m on my way. I’ll call you when I’m at the door.”
“Okay.”
Once I hung up the phone from her, I had to call my mother. I always told her everything. Before she answered, I gave my driver the address to Regancy’s before peering at the phone.
“Hey, baby.” I could hear her smile through the phone.
“Hey, Mama.”
“To what do I owe this call, because most days I won’t hear from you?” She reminded me of my absence as of late.
“Well, I went to break the news to Bash, and I ended up getting something dumped on me.” I shook my head, wondering if I should’ve told her to brace herself for that one. I mean, Joseph was her very married son.
“What? Did he put his hands on you, because I wi—”
“No. It’s more who he was doing.” I rolled my eyes to the ceiling of the car. “Mama, take a seat. It’s something I need to tell you.”
“Girl, what is i—”
“I walked in on Sabastian fucking Joseph.” I covered my mouth and attempted to whisper into the phone.
I could hear her gasp over the phone and what sounded like the phone fall. Then it sounded like she had picked it up. “Lane, are you su—”
“Yeah, Mama, it was Joseph and Bash. I couldn’t believe it either.” I shook my head as if she could see me. At that point, I felt bad for Joseph’s wife, Nina. She was sweet and really loved him.
“I’m stunned but not surprised,” she slowly spoke. “A mother knows her child, but Bash, I am very surprised about. What did you do?” she asked.
“Of course I laughed, but I left them to their business. I’m glad things didn’t have to end messy though.” I shrugged it off as my car pulled up in front of Regancy’s building. “I’ll see you soon, Mama.”
“I love you, Lane. You’re really okay though, right?” She sounded concerned.
“Yes, Mom. I’m fine, and I love you too,” I reassured her as I exited the car.
Once I hung up with her, I continued into Regancy’s building and onto the elevator.
I couldn’t help but shake my head at the idea of what I’d just seen.
I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn’t realize I was on her floor.
I blinked a few times, dragging myself off the elevator in the direction of her condo. When I reached her door, I knocked.
“Who is it?” I heard Kale’s voice on the other side of the door.
“Your godmother.”
Before I could say anything else, the door opened, and Kale rushed into my space, hugging my waist. I had been meaning to spend some time with my godchild, but I’d been so busy, and any free time that I had was spent with Taurus.
“Kale, what did I tell you abou—” Regancy started fussing before her eyes met me.
“She asked who it was before she opened the door, so don’t start yo’ stuff.” I took up for her as I always did.
Regancy shook her head before walking over to her stove. It smelled like she was cooking, which meant I was right on time.
“What are you cooking?” I questioned.
“Chicken noodle soup.” She stirred the pot before looking at me finally. “Now, what did you have to tell me?”
I looked down at Kale, who was now playing with her little potbelly puppy.
“Kale, baby, take Bernard to your bedroom. I’ll call you when dinner is done.” Regancy looked over at her.
“Okay, Mama. Bernard is sleepy anyway.” She picked up the puppy and walked to her bedroom.
“Now why the hell did she name that dog Bernard?” I asked.
Regancy laughed. “The hell if I know, but spill the beans.”
I laughed and shook my head as I watched her turn to her cabinet. “So I was going to break things off with Bash when I walked in on him and—”
“Another woman?” Regancy gasped as she poured the wine.
I shook my head. “With Joseph.”
She set the bottle down and stared at me. “Your brother? Or is that a code name for a female who looks like him?’
“No, bitch. My brother, his fucking frat brother. He was bent over the bed like a fucking foldable chair, begging him to go harder.”
Before I knew it, Regancy busted up laughing uncontrollably. She had the same reaction that I did. By the time she started to even speak, she had tears in her eyes. “So wait, he was…” She couldn’t finish her sentence. She just shook her head and drank from the wineglass.
The ringing of my phone took my attention. I saw that it was Taurus and answered.
“Where are you?” His deep voice flowed through the speakers of my phone. He was always asking where I was like he didn’t already know.
“Regancy’s house, and no, I’m not about to rush to your house. She’s cooking, and I’m enjoying myself.”
He laughed. “Oh yeah?”
“Yes. Now, where are you?” I asked.
“On my way up there since yo’ mouth is so fucking flip through this communication device.”
I didn’t even get the chance to respond, because that fool hung up on me.
“Somebody is in trouble.” Regancy taunted.
I chuckled. “I’m not in no damn trouble. I’m grown.” I pointed in her direction with the glass in my hand.
“I dare you say that when he gets up here.” She pursed her lips before setting a bowl at the island. “Kale, come eat, mama.”
Seconds later, Kale ran into in to the kitchen area. “Can I eat in my room? I’m watching—”
“Yes. Please don’t waste anything on your rug. Eat at your desk and make sure you don’t give Bernard any of your food. I mean it, Kale. Not even the bones.” She pointed with the fork before she put it in the bowl.
Once Kale was out of earshot, I glanced over at Regancy as she now made my bowl. “How do you do it? I mean, you’re really good at this shit.”
She giggled. “I started early, and now I’m years in, and I know for a fact that she’s it and definitely not because the doctors said it would be close to impossible.” Just as she set my food on my counter, her front door opened. Seconds later, Savior walked in with Taurus in tow.
“That shit you was talking over the phone, what was it?” Taurus asked as soon as he stepped up behind me and took my fork from my hands. Before I could say anything, he slid my bowl from in front of me and commenced to eating my food. He was such an asshole.
“Damn, sis, you look like the type to use pink salt and shit.” Taurus was stuffing my food in his mouth.
I looked up, and Regancy was giggling, but her attention was on whatever the hell Savior was saying in her ear. I must admit, even though I hated the way he approached her, he definitely made her happy, and that was all that mattered.
“Actually, I do. It’s better for you than seasoning salt.” She looked at Taurus.
He laughed. “Ain’t shit wrong with some Lawry’s. Upity ass.”
“You can’t even taste the difference.” She crossed her arms and looked at him before her eyes went to Savior, who, at that point, was eating quietly. “Can you b—”
“Hell yeah this nigga is gonna agree with you.” Taurus screwed his handsome face up and shook his head. We all laughed. “This man sleeps next to you at night, so hell nah he ain’t gonna disagree with you.”
We all ended up talking and joking for a while longer before I allowed Taurus to rush me out so we could go to his place. I swear that nigga loved to have me at his house, and I kind of liked being there too.
