Chapter 8

CHAPTER

EIGHT

TAURUS

I definitely didn’t plan to leave Lane alone in my bed that morning, but I had some things to oversee and then breakfast with that grumpy ass nigga. “You only smile when you’re all up in Regancy’s face. What the fuck is up with that?” I questioned.

“What, nigga? You want me to smile at you more or something?” he asked with amusement on his face. He knew what the fuck I meant.

“Hell yeah. You be fucking up the lil’ breakfast vibe all mugged up and shit.”

He laughed. “Nigga, fuck you.”

“I’m just saying, but shit seems to be getting really serious with y’all, huh?” I asked while I cut my pancakes and cut my eyes up at him.

“Nigga, don’t pick me, but yeah. I fuck with her on a different level.”

I nodded, somewhat understanding what he was saying.

I saw the other night that he was really feeling Regancy, and I was happy for my boy because he never felt bitches; he just fucked them and kept it moving because he was only in love with the paper.

He loved making money more than anything, so that was something deep.

“Ain’t nobody tryna pick your grown ass.

I was just saying, but I’m happy for you. It’s about time.”

He shook his head, but he didn’t respond.

Instead, he looked up, and his stare was hard in the direction of the door.

I followed his gaze, and my eyes landed on Duce.

He had just entered the little boutique-styled restaurant and was headed right for our table.

I shook my head because though I hadn’t seen the nigga in a while, he still looked the same.

He still had that look in his eyes like he was jealous or plotting on the next man.

Of course, he was stopped by Beck, who looked toward Savior for a response. He took his job serious as fuck.

Savior nodded and sat back as I did too while Duce pulled up chair to the table as if he were invited.

“Y’all niggas still do this lil’ breakfast thang, huh?” he asked as he chortled arrogantly.

“Yeah, but it’s more of a private type of thing, so what can we do for you?” I questioned. I didn’t like the energy that nigga was giving off. When we were youngins, it was easily ignored, but we were grown ass men, so that shit couldn’t be looked over.

He looked from me to Savior before clearing his throat. “What y’all gave my peoples wasn’t enough for them to live.”

Savior laughed, but there was no amusement in his face.

“Excuse me?” I just had to hear that shit again.

“It wasn’t enough for the time I too—”

He wasn’t able to finish his sentence, because Savior sat up and spoke.

“Let me stop you right there. You didn’t take time for me nor him.

You took time for yaself, and in return, we split whatever dividends from back then up as you requested and sent them to yo’ people, which you also requested.

It ain’t neither my nor his fault that yo’ people spent that shit on stuff that didn’t multiply it. ”

“C’mon now. I know y’all niggas got capital, so you can break me off what I’m owed.”

I cracked up laughing. “Nigga, I ain’t breaking you off a damn thing. Go break up a fucking job like all the other niggas who get outta the pin.”

“So it’s fuck me?” he asked.

“If that’s how you take it, then yeah. Be easy out there.” Savior went back to eating, and I did the same.

Duce wasn’t stupid enough to try anything, so he stood and left with what little dignity he had left.

It was neither my nor Savior’s fault that his family did the hood shit with his money.

Niggas looked up, and his mama was pushing a new Benz and living out in some big ass house that she later on had to sell because she was spending beyond their means and had a negative cashflow.

That was fucked up because they had even sent word through a few young niggas to us that they needed something, but neither of us sent a dime.

It was what it was, and that was his decision knowing his family.

“Amil still hasn’t located Che, and he’s been sitting on the family for a few weeks now. You think they keeping him in the basement or—”

“Or the nigga is probably dead.” I shrugged.

Savior laughed. “And why the fuck would they do that?”

“Because he’s worth more dead to his family. All he did was get those people into more and more debt over the years. I definitely would’ve put a big, nice ass policy on his ass and let it mature for a while before I offed his ass.” I strategized.

“Yo, you’re a fucking nut.” He shook his head

I shrugged. “He better hope that’s what they did because the next time I see his ass, that’s what I’m doing. Too bad I won’t get paid for it.”

REGANCY

Lately, I had been feeling like shit, and for the life of me, I didn’t know what it was.

Savior claimed it was because I ate my sushi raw, but I had literally been eating it that way my whole life.

It felt like it was something else, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.

So there I was at the doctor, describing all of my symptoms to her, while allowing her to prick me and all that shit.

“I’ll be right back. Let me get these to the lab.” Dr. Jordan smiled and eased put of the room just as my phone rang.

I glanced down, and it was Savior. He was calling, yet again, like I hadn’t spoken to his ass before I came in here.

“What yo’ doctor say, love?” he asked. His voice was smooth, and he sounded like he was in the back of his truck.

“She hasn’t figured it out. I just gave blood. What’s wrong?” I asked.

“Shit good with me. I had a short day. I’m tryna check on you.” He sounded concerned. Savior was the king of duality. He was able to feel all his moments and still be who he was. It amazed me because he was the first person I’d met like that.

I smiled. “You sound like you’re worried about me.”

“I probably am, so yo’ doctor better know and make sure you’re fine, or I’m knocking his or her ass off.” Though he had just threatened my doctor, he’d proven my point about his duality. He could be a beast and still be vulnerable.

I giggled. “My doctor, Savior?”

“Hell yeah. Nobody is excluded. What time does Baby K come from yo’ mama’s? I wanna go out on the water tonight.”

Again, I smiled. That was also a normal thing because he loved his sea time more than anything. “When I leave here and go get her.”

“I’m pulling up downstairs, so when you come down, we can go get her.”

“That’s fine. I wou—” I wasn’t able to finish my sentence, because the doctor had rushed back into the room.

She had a pleased expression on her face while she spoke.

“Your results are back, and we know what’s causing you so much discomfort.

Your pregnancy test came back positive.” She had blurted that shit out faster than I could hang up on Savior.

I hoped like hell he didn’t hear that, because it was impossible, and I didn’t want something on his mind that didn’t apply.

I threw my phone into my purse and looked up at her. “That’s impossible. I was told that it would be a miracle if I had another child because I had my first child so young and—”

“That was in your file and notes once we had them transferred to us. However, you might as well count on that miracle because you are indeed pregnant.” She smiled.

I didn’t smile or frown. I was indifferent, and I didn’t know what to feel.

I had long ago made peace with the fact that I couldn’t have any more children, so that was world altering for me.

Shit, I hadn’t had a baby in almost nine years, so what the hell was I supposed to do with one?

Then I hadn’t even had that type of conversation with Savior.

I wasn’t even sure he wanted kids. So many thoughts hit my head at once that I felt like I was about to pass out.

“Here’s the thing though, Regancy. This pregnancy would be extremely high risk, so we’d have to take this month by month in the event that you want to keep your baby.

In a little while, we’ll have the nurse bring in the Doppler to tell you how many weeks you are.

There’s a gown right there, so get undressed.

I’m going to give you some time to thi—”

“Sir, you can’t go back there,” I heard someone say from the back before Savior’s frame appeared in the doorway.

“What the fuck you hang up on me for?” He shot daggers in my direction with his serious eyes.

“I was busy. Can you wai—”

“Gimme a minute, Doc.” He didn’t ask her to leave the room.

He demanded that she leave, and she did without another word.

She didn’t give a damn that it could’ve been a stranger there to kill my ass.

She moved her ass out of the way. He closed the door behind her and leaned his back against it as he focused in on me.

“How did you know what floor I’d be on?” I stood and pulled my shirt off.

“I know where you are at all times. Are we gonna talk about this, or—”

“She said I’m pregnant, but I know I shouldn’t be. After I had Kale, I was told that it would be close to impossible for my body to produce any more babies.”
