Chapter 14 #2

It was something about her doe nose and the twinkle in her eyes that made a nigga just melt in her presence.

Regancy was fucking beautiful, and I swear I couldn’t say that enough.

She had the warmest shade of lightly creamed coffee for a complexion.

She had that type of skin that never looked ashy no matter how ashy she claimed she was.

My baby just glowed, and she had blessed Kale with the same.

Then she had these full, soft two-tone lips that adorned her face, and any time she pouted, they poked right out.

I swear I could go on and fucking on describing this woman because her features were all crafted by the man above himself.

Dinner had come and gone, and Kale was sleep in the other bedroom.

I had been meaning to handle that because I knew for sure that I didn’t like the idea of somebody knowing where she lived with everything going on.

I didn’t give a damn about building security, because in my opinion, they were slacking like a motherfucker on their jobs.

I knew that because Mel had gotten her ass up here one too many times for my liking.

“What are you thinking about?” Her voice sliced through my thoughts.

“The fact that my hand is getting tired as hell rubbing yo’ stomach,” I joked with her.

“Boy, bye. This is yo’ big-headed ass baby. You better keep these circles up.”

I snatched my hand back and just looked down at her. “It be ya mouth, baby.”

She mugged me before turning and burying her face in my neck and making those damn sniffling sounds that she did. Seconds later, I felt her lips against my jawline. Then she sat up and looked at me. “You’re right. It is my mouth. Now watch me close it along with my legs and take my ass to sleep.”

She went to get up, but I grabbed her petty ass and pulled her on top of me. She had a big ass grin on her face as she maneuvered so that she was straddling me.

“Now why you gotta be like that? At this point, a nigga has gotten used to your mouth.”

She chortled and rested her arms around my neck.

I wasn’t even paying attention to her face anymore.

I was too busy enjoying the view of everything that was in front of me.

She was wearing one of those shirts that gave me access to everything I needed.

Leaning forward, I pressed my lips against her chest as I led a trail up to her neck with my lips while my hands caressed her flesh under the shirt.

“I thought it was my mouth, Savior.”

“It is. Then it’s yo’ neck. Yo’ chest. Yo’ jawline. Yo’ nose. Yo’ everything for me.” I kissed her flesh with every word I spoke.

She caressed my head as I pulled back and looked up at her. “Smooth talking, huh?”

I grinned. “Is it working?”

She trapped her bottom lip between her teeth, and she smirked. “Maybe, but I’m still sle—”

I ended her sentence for her the moment I pressed my lips against hers. She had me fucked up if she was about to pull that sleepy shit on me.

LANE

I spent less and less time at my office these days.

It was just a stop to pick up things for me.

If I wasn’t on my way to court, then I was on my way to Taurus.

Ever since he’d gotten shot, we were almost inseparable, especially because I bitched at him any time he felt like it was time for him to return to his usual activities.

I gave him more shit than a little bit, and each time, I was successful in getting him to stay in.

Even though he was healing and it was damn near two weeks later, I knew he needed to get back to what he was used to.

I also knew that the day when I couldn’t fuss at him and talk him into staying in was coming, and I lowkey didn’t know how I would take it.

It was a moment that I knew I wasn’t ready for.

I was too afraid to lose him right after we had just found one another.

I was packing up my bag for my departure for the weekend when I heard my door open. I turned around and looked at my father as he walked into my office.

“Baby girl.” He smiled in my direction, but I looked away from him as I continued to pack.

“It’s funny. I’m baby girl now.” I glared up at him for a few seconds before focusing my attention elsewhere.

“Lane, please. What’s going on between your mother and I ha—”

“Don’t feed me that line when you’re out here trying to be Jon of the year with your whores, embarrassing my mother. She would never do—”

He laughed. “Do you know your mother as well as you think? You see me as the bad guy here, but we both know that that marriage ran its course.” He had the nerve to fix his suit and look at me like he had just cut his losses.

“You’re sad. She gave everything up for you, and you just move along like she was a hinderance.”

“Lane, you’re beating a dead horse at this point, baby girl, and from what I hear, your mother has done her—”

“Why are you here?” I questioned.

“To visit with my only daughter and let her know that I’m still her father no matter how angry she is with me over things that she may never understand.”

“That ‘only daughter’ ship has sailed.”

He laughed. “Your humor comes from my side of the family. That girl is my blood, but she is not my daughter. She doesn’t have the tenacity or the biological components to be claimed by me.

You on the other hand…” He nodded his head and fixed the statue on my desk.

“You’re my only daughter. Just don’t stay mad at me too long, because I do love you, and I’m not perfect.

” He walked around my desk and kissed my forehead before leaving my office almost as fast as he came.

What the fuck just happened? At this point, I refused to think about it. I was just ready to get home and lay up with my man for the night.

I wish I could say I didn’t wanna wring Taurus’s neck these days, but that was what I wanted to do every time I heard this nigga call my name.

Every five to ten minutes, it was “baby” this or “baby” that.

The other day, I had made the man some sleepy time tea, and he was out like a light.

I didn’t hear anything from him for the rest of the night, even though I kind of felt bad when I heard his light snores.

However, I was able to study my notes for my case, and I came out on top.

Plus, I got my client’s attempted-murder charge thrown out.

That was perfect because I was able to come here and get a little time to myself.

I was also in even better spirits because my mother had taken half of my caseload, so I was working less.

Now here I was, laying across Taurus’s sofa on a Sunday morning, enjoying reruns of Living Single.

“Get dressed. We have somewhere to be.”

I confusingly looked at him. “What are you talking about, Taurus?”

He gave me his normal blank expression before sitting down on the table in front of where I was sitting. “I have an appointment, so get yo’ ass dressed so we can go.”

I was confused, but I went to get dressed.

I thought I had put all of his appointments into my planner, but somehow, I must’ve missed it.

He had been healing fine, but the doctors wanted to be sure no infection or anything arose near the wound since he refused to take any medication.

This nigga took stubborn to a whole other level.

Once I was finished getting dressed, I met him in the living room.

He was zipping his jacket and standing up straight with a serious expression on his face.

Something had changed in him between the time I went to get dressed and now.

“What’s wrong?” I grabbed my wristlet and looked at him.

He didn’t speak. Instead, he held the door to his garage open for me to go out of first.

I stepped through the doorway and stood at the end of the of the massive four-car garage.

I never knew what car this man wanted to drive, so I always stood to the side and took note of what key fob he grabbed.

He grabbed the fob belonging to the blue Range Rover Sport.

Seconds later, I watched him walk over and open the passenger-side door.

He stood there for a moment, holding it open so I could get in.

Once I was in, he closed the door and went around to his side.

Something was on his mind, and I hated that he was one of those people who pondered things before he opened his mind and talked about them.

“Are you for me?” His question came out of nowhere, but there was no hesitation in my answer.

“If I wasn’t, I wouldn’t be here, Taurus.” I looked directly at him while his eyes stayed ahead.

“What if I told you that I know who shot me and that I’m handling this shit my way.

Would you stay with me if you knew the darkness I held inside?

” Now he looked over in my direction. I could tell he was studying my expression and my reaction.

He was looking for a reaction that he’d never get from me when he was the subject.

“Then I’d tell you that you better not get caught or shot again.

I’d also tell you that I’m not with you for only the bright and sunny days.

I’m with you for all of the days, including the dark and gloomy ones.

Now if you’re done tryna see if I’m here for the long run, will you tell me what brought about this conversation? ”

“I just talked to Savior. Some nigga named Camen is who had us blasted at. The thing about it was I don’t even know who this nigga is. From what he said, he’s some undercover working on the opposing to help Du—”

“Jefferies? Camen Jefferies?” I asked.

“Shit, I don’t know. How do you know this nigga?” He reached in his pocket and pulled out his phone. He tapped away at it for a moment before dropping it in the middle and looking at me.
