Chapter 14 #3
“If we’re talking about the same man, he’s no undercover. He’s a dirty vice agent. He’s one of those ones that the department refuses to fire because he’s somewhat effective. However, he has no credibility or any of that. He’s the department’s fuckup, whether they admit it or not.”
“Have you ever had a run-in with him?” he quizzed.
“Nope, but I know a few attorneys who have.”
Taurus nodded, and as if the subject had passed that fast, he was all in my face. “How you gonna tell me not to get shot again?”
“Because I just did. Now where are we going?” I asked since he was now driving in the opposite direction of where his doctor’s office was.
He chuckled. “Savior’s crib. I’ma just reschedule the tattoo appointment.” He shrugged.
I glared at him. “You mean you just stopped my TV time for a freaking tattoo appointment?” I questioned with narrow eyes. I would’ve hit his ass had he not been driving.
“Hell yeah. I wanna see my name on the small of your back while I hit it from the back.”
“Nigga…” My sentence trailed off because all I could do was shake my head and look at him. He was simply the craziest person I’d ever known.
When we finally arrived to Savior’s, the aroma of Regancy’s cooking hit my nose, and a smile graced my face.
When we walked in, I looked around, taking in her whole spread.
She had to already know I was coming because she made all my favorites.
My girl had made blueberry pancakes with the cheese eggs.
She didn’t disappoint, because the moment I set my purse down and took a seat, I was greeted with the plate that she was holding out for me.
“This homemaker thing kind of fits you, love.” I poked at her.
The glare she sent my way was almost comical. “This shit is a means to an end.” She mugged me.
“Don’t let her lie to you, Lane. She already promised a nigga he could get whatever he wanted out of her.” Savior walked into the kitchen with a smirk. He winked in her direction before addressing Taurus.
Regancy laughed.
“I’m not even tryna figure out what type of entanglements this nigga got you in. I just wanna make sure you got me on a plate. I ain’t demanding like these niggas, sis.” Taurus had to be Taurus.
She laughed and passed him the plate in her hand that she’d just finished making.
He gladly accepted the plate and sat at the island. “See? Blood couldn’t make us any closer. Don’t be pissing my sister off either, Savior. I might not be able to fight yo’ ass these days, but I’ll pop yo’ ass,” he jokingly threatened him.
We laughed. He didn’t give a damn what came out of his mouth, and somehow, I was so used to it. I wondered if that meant I was secretly unhinged as well. Either way, it was what it was.
TAURUS
I sat back against Savior’s sofa, feeling the fuck out of this chest wound.
I wasn’t the type to pop pills or depend on anything to make me feel better, so I was toughing this shit out.
The problem was some moments were more bearable than others.
Right now, I knew I couldn’t get up off this damn couch, nor could I leave. I felt like absolute shit.
“Why won’t you just take the damn medication, Taurus?” Savior asked.
“Nigga, you be a fucking crackhead, not me. I’ma be cool. I don’t need shit those fake ass doctors try to push for kickbacks. They’ll give our black asses anything to get us hooked and feinding. They don’t wanna see us win. They wanna see us nodding and cracked out.”
He shook his head and passed me the edible that he had Luke pick up for me. I fucked with cannabis. That was the real way to not feel or give a fuck about shit. This time, I couldn’t smoke though because of where that bullet hit me.
“He said only take a piece of this shit. Don’t eat it like a regular fucking brownie, nigga,” Savior instructed.
He was too late because I had already taken about three bites off this motherfucker.
I didn’t even taste the weed. This brownie was good as a motherfucker.
We talked business and moves for a few moments longer, but then I felt delayed as fuck.
It was like everything around me was moving faster than myself.
“I told yo’ ass to take a piece,” Savior bitched as we glided from the living room to my usual guest room whenever I stayed at his crib.
Shit, it didn’t even matter to me, because at this point, I didn’t feel shit.
I was lost somewhere between floating on a cloud and reminding myself that my breathing was automatic and not manual.
When I did wake up hours later, Lane’s ass was standing over me with a smirk. She held a bottle of water out for me to take. “Fuck you smirking about?” I asked, looking around and realizing that I was still at Savior’s crib.
“You. How do you feel, baby?”
I sat up and swung my feet across the bed onto the floor. “How long was I sleep?”
“Baby, it’s seven at night. You’ve been sleep since about ten something this morning.”
I shook my head. That was the last time I fucked with anything that damn potent. “I’m hungry as fuck.” I rubbed my stomach.
“I figured. Regancy is almost finished cooking. Do you want me to bring a plate to you, or are you coming out to the kitchen.”
“Make my plate. I’ll be out there.” I watched her walk out of the room and then I rested my head in my hands.
Though I fucked with the feeling of not feeling the pain I was currently in, that was the last time fucked with that shit.
It had my ass out of my mind. I didn’t even remember when I fell asleep.
When I finally came out of the room, I walked into the kitchen, and Regancy was behind the island while Lane sipped from her wineglass and babbled.
Then my attention went to the living room area where Savior sat at watching what I assumed was the game with Kale.
This was the type of shit I could get used to.
It was a family type mood in this bitch, and I fucked with the vibration.
I leaned against the metal doorframe and watched Savior read through the file that Andy had delivered about this Camen nigga from vice.
“On paper, his bitch ass is legit, but he’s dirty as fuck in real life,” he said just as Amil walked in the room.
At Savior’s request, he had been laying low, but now was the time for him to resurface.
I could tell that Savior had thought about sending him in there, and now he was apprehensive, but at this point, he knew like I knew that Amil was damn near the only way.
Plus, from what Savior told me, it was a lose-lose for Amil anyways.
When they picked him up, they claimed that he had an unregistered piece with two bodies on it.
They knew what they were doing to jam him up, so they made sure to dangle his own freedom, or ours, over his head.
The fact that he put Savior on game instead of being a flawed ass nigga made me respect him more than anything.
“You ready for this shit, Amil?” I asked. He was willingly walking into some shit that could potentially backfire on all of us, but we needed to know what the fuck they knew and what they were after.
“I’m good. This shit is gonna be easy.” He shrugged me off. It was something different in his eyes tonight, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I just shrugged it off and told myself that I was seeing shit. That edible was still in my system.
“Don’t get yo’self killed. I ain’t tryna have heat in my household over yo’ onion-head ass.” Savior looked at him seriously.
Amil laughed him off. “Bet. I’ll hit y’all up when I can.”
Seconds later, the door closed behind him, and my eyes went to Savior. “You just let your girl’s baby broth—”
“That man is grown, and he can handle himself. After all, we did bring him up.” Savior nodded. I could tell he was bothered by this shit, but in true Savior fashion, he’d push it to the back of his head.
“I heard lil’ mama call you ‘daddy’ back at the crib. How did that come about?” I peered over at him.
He glanced over at me and smiled. “I just petitioned the courts to adopt her as my daughter legally. I didn’t even know what I was doing until I was already standing in line at the place.
It’s just something about things that come together out of nowhere and feel like it’s right. ” I could see how happy my nigga was.
I nodded, definitely understanding where he was coming from, but I had to crack on him. “What are you about to tell me next? She makes yo’ big ass feel new too?”
He laughed. “See? That’s why I don’t talk to yo’ ass. You always got a fucking joke, but the entire time you been here, all you’ve been doing is smiling at ya damn phone screen. Ole whipped ass nigga.”
I laughed. “Oh, you mad that I ain’t been looking at yo’ goofy ass? You know you still the apple of my eye, Save.” I playfully winked at him.
He laughed. “Keep that shit up, you’ll be walking back to my place.”
I laughed him off. “All jokes aside, I’m proud of you.”
He nodded. “’Preciate it, man.” He looked at me momentarily before his eyes went to the same doorway that Amil had just gone out of. Reese’s sneaky ass had appeared out of thin fucking air as he always did.
“I’ma need yo’ ass to make some noise or something. I keep telling you, Reese, I’m gon’ end up popping yo’ ass one of these days.”
Reese laughed. “It ain’t my fault y’all was in here being sentimental and shit.” Reese laughed. “Yo, you still want me to pick up that nigga’s mama or—”
“Damn, the nigga’s mama though, Savior?” I asked.
