THE POWER WITHIN

The sudden burst of energy left the entire clearing in shock.

Lantern flames flickered wildly as the strange pulse faded into the night air.

Aria staggered slightly, her hand still pressed against her chest. Her heart was racing faster than ever before.

Heat spread through her body like wildfire.

It wasn’t painful.

But it was powerful.

Too powerful.

“I… I don’t understand,” she whispered, her voice shaking.

The wolves around her stared with wide eyes.

They had all felt it.

That surge of power had not been normal.

Even the warriors standing near the ceremonial circle had stepped back slightly.

Kael’s grey eyes narrowed as he studied Aria more carefully now.

That energy…

He had never felt anything like it before.

It was raw.

Wild.

Ancient.

And it had come from the same girl he had just rejected.

Beside her, the Alpha King remained calm.

Almost pleased.

He watched Aria closely as she tried to steady her breathing.

“Relax,” he said quietly.

His voice carried a steady authority that somehow cut through her panic.

“Your wolf is responding.”

Aria shook her head immediately.

“That’s impossible,” she said. “I’ve never had a wolf.”

The Alpha King’s golden eyes softened slightly.

“You do,” he replied.

“It has simply been sleeping.”

More murmurs spread through the crowd.

Several older wolves exchanged uneasy glances.

There were legends about wolves whose powers awakened late.

But those stories were rare.

Extremely rare.

And the wolves in those stories were never ordinary.

Lila, however, refused to accept what she was seeing.

“This is a trick,” she snapped. “She’s pretending.”

Her voice was sharp with frustration.

But no one agreed with her this time.

They had all felt the energy.

No one could fake something like that.

The Alpha King slowly turned his gaze toward her again.

His expression was no longer patient.

“Enough,” he said quietly.

The single word carried enough power to silence her instantly.

Lila pressed her lips together but stepped back.

Meanwhile, Aria was still struggling to understand what was happening to her.

The heat inside her chest had not completely disappeared.

Instead, it pulsed slowly… like something alive was waking up inside her.

She looked down at her hands.

They were trembling.

“What if I can’t control it?” she asked softly.

For the first time, the Alpha King’s expression became almost gentle.

“You will,” he said.

“How do you know?”

His golden eyes met hers again.

“Because,” he replied calmly, “you are mine.”

The words sent a strange shiver through her body.

Not fear.

Something else.

Something deeper.

Across the clearing, Kael’s jaw tightened.

He didn’t like the way the Alpha King was looking at her.

Or the way Aria seemed drawn toward him.

He had rejected her.

Yet something about the situation now felt… wrong.

His wolf stirred uneasily.

As if it sensed something important slipping away.

Kael pushed the feeling aside and spoke again.

“Even if she does have a wolf,” he said coldly, “it doesn’t change anything. I’ve already rejected her.”

The Alpha King looked at him briefly.

“Yes,” he said.

“You have.”

Then his gaze slowly swept across the entire pack.

His voice grew stronger.

Clear.

Commanding.

“And now she will leave this place with me.”

Gasps erupted immediately.

The Alpha of the Silver Moon Pack stepped forward quickly.

“Alpha King,” he said carefully, “surely there is no need to rush such a decision. Aria has lived in this pack her entire life.”

The Alpha King looked back at him.

“That is precisely the problem.”

His voice was calm.

But his golden eyes were sharp.

“She has lived here her entire life…”

His gaze returned briefly to Aria.

“…and none of you ever noticed what she truly is.”

A heavy silence followed his words.

Because deep down…

Everyone knew he was right.

The Alpha King turned back to Aria.

“Come,” he said simply.

He extended his hand toward her.

The gesture was not forceful.

But it carried quiet authority.

Aria stared at his outstretched hand.

Her heart beat loudly in her chest again.

If she took it…

Everything in her life would change.

The pack.

Her home.

The only place she had ever known.

Yet when she glanced around the clearing—

The looks on the wolves’ faces reminded her of something painful.

She had never truly belonged here.

Her eyes slowly returned to the Alpha King.

His hand was still waiting.

Patient.

Steady.

Aria hesitated.

Then slowly…

She reached out.
