CLOSE,BUT NOT SIMPLE

Kael staying… changed the atmosphere immediately.

Not drastically.

Not violently.

But enough.

The camp felt different.

More alert.

More watchful.

Every movement Kael made was noticed.

Every glance followed.

And yet—

He didn’t react to any of it.

He moved calmly through the clearing, observing everything with quiet focus.

Learning.

Aria stood at a distance, watching him.

Her arms folded loosely.

Her expression unreadable.

Lucian walked up beside her.

“You’re staring.”

She didn’t look away.

“I’m observing.”

He snorted softly.

“Same thing.”

Aria finally glanced at him.

“You don’t trust him.”

Lucian didn’t hesitate.

“No.”

“Not even a little?”

He shook his head.

“He’s from the Void, Aria.”

She looked back at Kael.

“He’s not like the others.”

Lucian’s voice lowered.

“That doesn’t make him safe.”

Silence stretched between them.

Aria sighed quietly.

“I know.”

Lucian studied her face.

“…Then why let him stay?”

She hesitated.

Just for a second.

Then—

“Because something has to change.”

Lucian’s gaze softened slightly.

“And you think he’s that change?”

Aria shook her head.

“No.”

Her eyes narrowed faintly.

“I think he’s the beginning of it.”

Lucian didn’t respond.

He just watched her.

Trying to understand.

Rowan’s voice suddenly cut in as he walked toward them.

“Update: people are officially losing their minds.”

Aria raised a brow.

“That fast?”

Rowan pointed behind him.

“Half the warriors are debating whether to attack him, the other half are pretending to act normal.”

Lucian smirked.

“So… chaos.”

“Exactly.”

Rowan folded his arms.

“And guess who they’re waiting on?”

Aria sighed.

“…Me.”

“Yep.”

She straightened slightly.

“Then let’s not keep them waiting.”

The clearing filled quickly.

Eyes shifted between Aria…

And Kael.

The tension was obvious.

The Alpha King stood at the center once more.

Calm.

But watchful.

“Speak,” he said to Aria.

She stepped forward.

No hesitation.

“This is Kael.”

Murmurs spread immediately.

She continued,

“He is not our enemy.”

Some of the warriors shifted uncomfortably.

One stepped forward.

“And we’re just supposed to believe that?”

Lucian crossed his arms.

“Not blindly.”

Aria nodded.

“Exactly.”

Her voice remained steady.

“That’s why he’s here.”

The warrior frowned.

“To what—prove it?”

Kael spoke for the first time since entering.

“Yes.”

The simple answer caught everyone off guard.

He stepped forward slightly.

Not aggressive.

But confident.

“I understand your distrust.”

Rowan muttered,

“At least he gets that.”

Kael continued,

“In your place… I would feel the same.”

Aria glanced at him briefly.

Then back at the crowd.

“This is new for all of us.”

Her gaze sharpened slightly.

“But we don’t get to ignore it.”

Silence followed.

The Alpha King stepped in.

“She’s right.”

All eyes turned to him.

“The world has changed.”

His voice carried authority.

“We either learn to live with that change…”

“…or we let it destroy us later.”

The tension in the clearing shifted.

Not gone.

But less rigid.

Elias stepped forward.

“We will set boundaries.”

He looked directly at Kael.

“You will not move freely without permission.”

Kael nodded once.

“Understood.”

“You will not act without being observed.”

“Understood.”

“And if you show any sign of hostility—”

Kael finished calmly.

“You will act accordingly.”

Rowan whispered to Lucian,

“I like him slightly less now.”

Lucian didn’t respond.

His eyes were on Aria.

Always.

The meeting slowly dispersed.

Not peacefully.

But not violently either.

A fragile middle ground.

Aria exhaled softly.

“That went better than expected.”

Rowan blinked.

“…That’s your definition of better?”

Lucian smirked faintly.

“She’s not wrong.”

Aria turned slightly—

And froze.

Kael was standing closer now.

Not too close.

But closer than before.

Watching her.

“You hold influence,” he said.

Aria raised a brow.

“That’s one way to put it.”

Kael tilted his head slightly.

“They listen to you.”

“Some of them.”

Kael’s gaze didn’t leave her.

“They will.”

Lucian stepped in slightly.

“Alright, that’s enough.”

Kael looked at him.

Then nodded once, stepping back.

Aria watched the interaction carefully.

Then turned to Kael again.

“You’re adjusting fast.”

Kael answered simply.

“I learn fast.”

Rowan muttered,

“Of course you do.”

Aria hesitated.

Then asked,

“What do you think so far?”

Kael looked around the clearing.

The people.

The world.

Then back at her.

“…It is complicated.”

Aria smirked slightly.

“You’re learning already.”

For the first time—

Kael’s expression shifted.

Just slightly.

Not quite a smile.

But close.

Lucian noticed.

And he definitely didn’t like it.

Not one bit.

The wind passed through the clearing again.

Gentle.

But carrying something new.

Not danger.

Not peace.

Something in between.

And Aria could feel it clearly now—

This wasn’t just about two worlds anymore.

It was about what happened when they finally met.
