Chapter 5 Accidentally Playing the Voice
She kept apologizing quietly: "Sorry, it's all my fault for not asking clearly and embarrassing you."
I shook my head: "It's fine. You meant well."
This shop's decor felt completely different from the one next door.
It had a warm, cozy vibe with red tones everywhere.
The other shop was simple and plain.
Even I wouldn't have linked them.
Lu Xuchen returned and went straight to the kitchen.
The kitchen was open and transparent. From my seat I saw everything.
I watched Lu Xuchen take ingredients from his dad and start frying.
He kept his head down, carefully frying each piece thoroughly.
Soon the aroma floated over and made my mouth water.
The Fried Skewers arrived and my best friend and I ate without saying a word.
They were too delicious.
No new customers came in, so Lu Xuchen sat on a chair near the kitchen to rest.
He sat lazily with his long legs crossed.
His well-defined hand held his phone.
He stared at the screen with a serious face.
After thinking for a while, he seemed to decide and spoke to the phone: "By the way, you..."
"Hey, these Fried Skewers are really good. Boss, another plate!"
"I want one too. Not full yet."
"And me."
Other tables suddenly shouted orders. I missed the rest of what Lu Xuchen said.

The screen lit up.
My best friend caught it from the corner of her eye and blurted: "There's a message for you from a user called Peerless Good Master."

My hands were oily.
I wiped them on a napkin before picking up the phone.
I swiped the screen open.
It was a ten-second voice message.
I was about to tap for text, but my hand slipped.
It played out loud.
