Chapter 23

Walking into my room, I slam the door. I’m still pissed off that she fucking asked about my parents. That’s a hard limit for me. I lost both of mine the night of my tenth birthday.

I remember sitting on the couch, looking out the window, waiting to see their headlights. That’s why when I saw the lights pulling up, I raced outside to greet them, only to see two police officers step out of the car. They walked over just as uncle Kevin came out.

“Excuse us, we are looking for Kevin Rodriguez.” The male officer says.

“What can I help you with?” He responded, placing a hand on my shoulder.

“Is there somewhere we can talk in private?” The officer asks, looking down at me and back up towards my uncle.

“Yes, of course.” He extends his arm out in a come in gesture.

When we enter the house, we walk into the living room. My uncle excuses me to my room, so I pretend to leave and hide behind the corner.

“Sir, we regret to inform you that your sister and brother in law were killed tonight.” The officer says.

“I see. Can you tell me how they died?” He says.

Why doesn’t he sound sad? Is he happy they died?

“They lost control of their vehicle on Dawson Bridge, resulting in them going through the guard rail. When the car tumbled down the hill, it landed and blew up. I’m sorry for your losses.”

“Thank you for informing me. If you would excuse me, I have a birthday boy who needs to be informed of his parents” passing.” My uncle says, walking the officers to the door.

As the door closes, I walk back out with tears running down my face. I can’t believe they”re both gone and not coming back. My uncle walks over to me, puts a hand on my shoulder.

“It”s going to be okay. Now wipe those tears off your face. A real man never shows his emotions.”

Wiping my face, I look back up at him.

“What happens now?” I ask him.

“Cade! Where the fuck are you?” Zin’s voice brings me back to the present. I look over at him as he walks into my room and sits on the edge of the bed.

“What? You decide to quit being a dick?” I say, flopping down on my bed.

“So that wasn’t you slamming the door?” He laughs. “Right, That’s what I thought.”

“I don’t want to hear your shit right now. What do you need?.”

“She looks like her, man. How am I supposed to react? You and I both know this is hard on me, too.” He says, fidgeting with his knife.

“I know. You signed up for this though.” I say as the door opens and in walks the rest of the guys.

“What’s your thoughts, Har?” I ask. “Now that you’ve met her in person.”

He just chuckles and shakes his head, “Only time will tell. I think she will surprise us.”

“Yeah, as long as we keep an eye on her. We don’t need her looking into her parent’s deaths.” I say.

“I installed software when I asked her for her phone so I could put all our numbers in. She had mine and Stone’s already.” Atti says.

“Why would she need mine?” Zin says.

“Don’t act like you aren’t interested, man.” Stone says.

“Let’s just get this over with.” Zin says, standing up.

Sitting outside Shelia”s, we wait until we see Macy on the arm of our target walking over towards his car. He isn’t alone but we already knew he wouldn’t be. I called Macy earlier, offering her a night of her life if she could help us out. She was too eager, like always but it worked out for us. Pulling out of the diner, they head towards Macy’s place.

Twenty minutes later, we pull up, park the car three houses down and wait for the signal. Macy will turn the porch light on, alerting us she has knocked him out.

“What did you have to offer her this time?” Stone says.

“Listen, bro. I’m not taking one for the team again. Last time, I ended up with a rash.” Harlan says, looking like he is about to piss himself.

“You know what, count me out, bro.” Harlan says.

“Naw. I figured it’s Zin’s turn.” I say, looking over and smiling at Zin.

He just rolls his eyes, “We all know I’d ruin her.”

“Exactly, brother.” Harlan says.

Pulling out my phone, I pull up the camera feed at the house so I can see my little poison.

What the fuck! Why isn’t there a picture?

“What’s going on with the feed at the house?” I ask.

“What do you mean?” Stone says, pulling out his phone. “What the fuck!”

The rest of the guys confirming the same thing.

“Let’s just get through this and when we get back, check what happened,” Harlan says.

Another twenty minutes pass and we see the signal from Macy.

“Showtime, boys. In and Out.” I state.

“That’s what she said.” Stone says, laughing as he steps out of the truck, causing me to pinch the bridge of my nose.

We move as a unit, making our way to her house. She pulls open her door, allowing us access.

“Follow me.” She says, walking away as she sways her hips too much.

“What is she doing? She looks like a fucking penguin.” Harlan says, with a grossed out face,

Walking into what appears to be her bedroom, we notice she did exactly what we asked. I nod towards the body lying there. “Grab him and let’s go.”

“What about me?” Macy whines.

Zin walks over and whispers something into her ear, causing her to pale. She looks up at him as he pulls away from her.

“No, that’s okay. Another night then.” She says, looking over at me with a pleading look.

“I’ll hold you to that.” He says, walking toward the door, turning around. “Macy.” He says with a menacing smile, walking out.

“Cade, please don’t ever leave him with me.” She pleads.

“Why, he would never do anything you wouldn’t enjoy.” I say, turning and following my brothers out.

Tossing the body in the trunk and closing it. Stone turns around and says, “Let’s drop his ass off and get back to the house.”

“Someone is excited to see his little girlfriend,” Zin says.

“Shit, I wouldn’t mind having her tied up in my bed.” He responds.

Climbing in the car, we head to drop this motherfucker off so we can play with him later. Ten minutes later, we pulled up to the barn. Dragging his ass inside, we get him chained up. As we walk to the car, Harlan stops us.

“Wait. I have an idea. I’ll meet you at the car.” He walks back into the warehouse. Coming out with a huge grin on his face fifteen minutes later.

“What did you just do?” I ask, already feeling a headache coming.

“Nothing. Let’s go.” He says, climbing in.

I swear he will be the death of me. Hell at this point, they all will. We pull into the driveway, climbing out of the car. As soon as we walk through the door, we hear a high pitched scream that could only be Lux. Taking off for the stairs, heading toward her room. I grab the handle and swing open her door.

What the fuck!
