Chapter 24
With the blankets pulled over my head, I can’t stop the screaming. Who the fuck is that? I hear my door swing open and footsteps walking over towards me. Gripping the blankets tighter, I pray whoever it is doesn’t hurt me.
“Little Poison.” I know that voice. “What’s wrong?”
Cade pulls the covers down, locking eyes with me before I turn my head to look around the room. I see the guys standing there.
“You didn’t see them?” I ask, still confused. Where did they go? I know I saw them.
“Who?” Atti asks.
“I woke up and there was someone standing there.” I point towards the end of the bed, where the guys are standing. “Maybe you scared them away.”
“Unlikely. We have cameras around the house. It was only you in here,” Zin says, with a bored
expression on his face. He always comes off as an asshole with his condescending tone.
He is such a fucking dick.
“Are you sure?” I ask. Wait, did he say, “Cameras! Like you have one in here?” I look around the room, searching for evidence of any cameras.
“Why? It’s not like you have anything we haven’t seen before.” Zin smirks. I want to punch the smug ass look off his face.
“I guess that’s true for you, seeing how you like to fuck mothers.” I say, as my eyes go wide and I cover my mouth.
“Jealous?” Zin raises his eyebrow with a smirk.
“Wait, How did you know it was him?” Harlan asks.
“He has a little scar over his eye.” I say, smirking at Zin.
Checkmate!
“Now that we know everything is good, I’m going to the kitchen.” Stone says, throwing me a wink before he walks out of my room. My face flushes at the wink, remembering the texts we exchanged earlier in the night.
“I’m heading out too. Sweet dreams, princess.” Atti says, walking over and kissing the top of my head.
I’m still confused. I know I saw someone in here. Maybe I was just dreaming. I need to find these damn cameras. I wonder if they are hidden in the same places we hid ours. I’ll search tomorrow.
Rolling over onto my back, I still can’t help but feel like last night was real. I know I saw someone standing here. If the guys have cameras and didn’t see anyone, then maybe it was just a dream. Reaching over and picking up my phone from the nightstand, I pull up my search engine. My chest tightens as I look at the newspaper article on my parent’s death. They still have no solid leads on their case. I need to find out who is assigned to their case and see what they”re doing to find their killers. My door swings open, startling me, causing me to fall out of bed and onto the floor.
“Rise and shine, babe.” Jo’s voice rings out across the room. “Lux?!” I hear the panic in her voice.
“I’m here.” I say, standing up from the floor.
“Babe. Please tell me you didn’t sleep on the floor.” She says, walking towards me.
Jo grabs me, pulling me into a tight hug. She feels like warmth and home, making me instantly relax.
“Uh, Jo. How did you get in?” I ask, pulling back to look at her face. I’m curious what she did to get in here.
“What do you mean? When I knocked on the door and saw it was Mr. tall, dark, and gloomy, I pushed past him and came up.” She says, causing me to laugh.
“He really is a dickhead.” I say, picking up my blanket and tossing it on the bed.
Just as I start to make my bed, there’s a knock on my door.
“Yeah?” I say, as Atticus opens my door.
“Princess, there’s food downstairs, come eat,” Atticus says with a glimmer in his eyes. “You too, Jo.” Turning around and walking back out.
“Oh, I saw that look,” Jo says. She sits down on my bed, putting one leg over the other and locking eyes with me.
“What look?” Damn, I forgot how observant she is. “It was nothing.”
“It didn’t look like nothing. So spill it, babe.” She pats the spot next to her.
Taking the spot, I put my hands in my lap and pick at the hem of my shirt.
“I mean, I do find him sexy. Hell, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t find them all attractive.” I say.
“Well duh, babe. You aren’t blind and they are fucking hot.” She reaches over and takes hold of my hand. “I know you went through some really fucked up shit, it”s okay to still want to try things again.” She smiles. “When you’re ready and on your own terms.”
I pull her into a hug, “Thank you, Jo.” Squeezing her tighter. “What did I ever do to deserve you?”
“Always, babe,” she says, standing up. “Now, let’s go eat. We have plans today.”
“Plans?” What is she up to now?
“Yes, plans. I’ve been looking into who is in charge of your parent’s case.” She says.
“You have?” I fucking love her so much. I can feel the tears slip down my face.
“Of course, babe. Now wipe those tears away. We have a meeting with Detective Tate.”
“Thank you so much, Jo. I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“Lead a boring life.” She winks. “We were meant to be, babe. It”s written in the stars.”
“Hurry up! I’m starving down here.” Zin says. “Fucking women, always taking their damn time.”
“Can I stab him?” Jo says, with a seriously pissed off face.
“Let me get back to you on that one. We are outnumbered.” I say, trying to ease up the tension.
“Oh, please, babe. I think they might even help.” She chuckles.
“We better hurry up.” I walk towards the door.
”Why, because he says?” She asks.
“No, because if we hold up Stone, we might both end up getting stabbed.” I say.
“Naw, if anything he will stab you with his dick while I stab Zin.” We both pause. Then burst out laughing as we walk down the stairs.
Walking into the kitchen, I see all the guys sitting around the table surrounded by food.
“Well, don’t just stand there.” Zin says, with an annoyed expression.
“Babygirl, you can sit by me,” Stone winks.
I walk over and take my seat, locking eyes with Jo as she goes to do the same. She gives me a huge grin and I know she is about to do something. Oh shit! Don’t stab him, Jo. Zin goes to take a bite of his banana and Jo pretends to reach over to grab a plate and places her hand on the back of his head, pushing his mouth down on the banana, causing him to gag.
“What the fuck!” He growls.
“With that bullshit that you always seem to have pouring out of your mouth, I figured for once you could use help with shoving it back in.” She grins, as we all burst out with laughter. After breakfast, Jo and I head upstairs so I can get ready to meet with the detective.
