Chapter 96

Chapter Ninety-Six

Robin

Introducing Shayne to Katie was fun. She noticed our marks straight away and dragged me into her suite to congratulate and give us hugs. It was a while before we got the chance to tell her why she should go to work without me this morning.

Katie’s excited energy rubbed off on me, a little, I admit.

My smile felt unsinkable, at least until we got to Lana’s office door.

Knowing Falcon was already in there, without us, I couldn’t help but worry.

Lana doesn’t seem to like him very much.

I’m not sure he’s redeemed himself in her eyes after he lied to get into the academy.

I bite my lip, wondering what happens if Lana decides she can’t get over that slip up.

“Hey, are you okay?” Shayne asks, his voice hushed.

“Uh, yeah,” I manage, raising my hand to knock on the door.

It opens before my hand can make contact with the wood.

The head of academy security gives me a wry smile before he steps back and gestures silently to us to enter the room.

I step inside first, letting go of Shayne’s hand and folding my arms as I move toward where Falcon’s sitting on the couch nearest the door to the room.

Lana’s sitting across from him, her expression hard to read.

Falcon moves on the couch, and I slip into the seat beside him.

He takes my hand in his.

The door closes and I turn to see Shayne stop next to me.

The couch is a bit on the small side for all three of us, I guess.

“What did we miss?” Shayne asks.

“Well, your lead Alpha wants to move your pack into Goldcrest. He proposed working alongside our security team. Obviously, Robin has decided you’re her mates. And I think you’re all caught up.” Lana gives us a wry smile.

I realize I’m holding my breath.

Inhaling takes a concentrated effort.

“I was waiting to hear Lana’s response to the proposal,” Falcon adds, “when you arrived.”

Lana nods slowly. “That’s right. I was considering it.”

“And?” Shayne prompts, when she pauses.

She looks up at him, then back at Falcon. “I’d like to ask Robin what she thinks, first.”

“Me?” I ask, frowning.

“Yes, you,” Lana answers. “Clearly, you’ve decided these men are your mates. Do you want them to live here with you?”

“Um, yes. I do. Of course, I do.”

“Well, then, I guess we’ll have to find you a bigger suite.”

I blink at her. “Really?”

“I won’t say I’m not surprised by how fast this happened,” she admits. “But, you seem sure about it. And you know you can come to me with anything, and I mean, anything, that you’re ever unsure about, right?”

“I know.”

She nods. “Okay. It might take a while to set up a bigger suite for your pack, but in the meantime, I trust Robin’s suite will suffice?”

My face warms while Falcon nods.

It’s silly. She already knows we’ve claimed each other as mates, yet I can’t help but feel awkward that someone other than my mates know I’m sharing a bed with two Alphas.

“Then, you should invite the rest of your pack, and we’ll let you know when we have a suite for you to move into. Owen and Pete can train you on security ops and we’ll figure out who fits in where once you’ve had some training.”

“Great,” Falcon responds. “Shayne, go call Jay and Harper.”

“My cell phone …” Shayne starts.

“Use Erika’s phone,” Lana says. “She’s the receptionist. She should be on duty any minute now.”

“Thanks,” Shayne says, as he turns and Owen opens the door for him.

I watch Shayne leave, and Owen closes the door again.

Lana’s looking at me when I turn back around to face her.

“Robin, did you want to learn what I do here?”

I blink at her. “Um, what?”

“We’d like for your pack to be able to cover the academy fully, eventually,” she admits, stunning me. “That means security cover, but it also means covering my role.”

Oh my God. I can feel all the color draining from my face.

“Uh … Um … I don’t …” I shake my head as my throat tightens.

“It’s okay if you don’t want to,” Lana assures me. “I just had to ask.”

“I like the job I have,” I admit, after my swell of panic calms.

“Okay,” Lana says, nodding. “I’m sure one of your other mates will be capable of taking over in my absence. I’ll just need to figure out which one.”

“Shayne’s good with people,” Falcon offers. “And he doesn’t hate administrative work.”

“Perfect,” Lana says, nodding. “I’ll have him follow me today.”

“Can I go to work?” I ask. “I’m already late, probably.”

“There’s no need to worry about that,” Lana tells me.

“I’ll walk you to the kitchen,” Falcon offers.

He starts to get up, and I do the same.

“Thanks,” I murmur.
