Chapter 95
Chapter Ninety-Five
Falcon
Ileave Robin and Shayne to lock up and visit our new mate’s friend, moving quickly to the elevator and taking it down to the reception area. The more time I can get alone to explain myself to Robin’s former guardian and current employer, the better.
If I had a choice, I would never want to see Lana’s face again, but I know that’s not a likely scenario, especially since her Omega seems to think my pack was led out here to meet Robin for more than one reason.
I’m surprised Shayne hasn’t worked that part out yet.
His brother wasn’t making a random suggestion.
Omegas are highly intuitive, to the point where they can be mistaken for psychics.
Shadow saw something that made him realize our fate is more closely intwined with the academy than we first realized.
I don’t doubt that.
So, it’s time to swallow my pride and do whatever it takes to convince Lana that Robin’s safe and happy with me and my pack. That probably means not getting defensive, so I try to relax my body as I walk past the empty reception desk toward her office.
Being friendly and approachable is Shayne’s strong-suit.
I’m really more of an intimidating presence.
There’s not much I can do about that.
But a prickly attitude isn’t going to get me too far.
I stop outside Lana’s office, and I think about Robin.
How she looks when she’s outside, where she’s at her happiest.
Her sweet smile, the way she blushes over compliments and anything slightly sexual.
The surprising, take-charge side that comes out when she knows what she wants …
She’s the woman of my dreams, and I won’t walk away from her for anything.
It’s time Lana knew that.
I raise my hand and knock on the door.
A few seconds later, it’s opened, by Owen.
He gives me a wry smile. “Uh huh. Thought you might show up.”
He steps back and gestures to me to enter.
“Hi to you, too,” I mutter.
My gaze shifts to the desk, and sure enough, that’s where Lana is, sitting in front of her computer, typing.
“Sorry, for the interruption,” I start.
She pauses her typing and looks up at me, her gaze as unimpressed as ever.
“Take a seat. I’m finishing something.”
The implication is clear. She wants me to wait, and to be quiet.
I nod, and she puts her attention back on the screen in front of her.
I glance back at Owen to see him close the door.
Sitting down like I was told, I wait.
It’s nothing short of excruciating.
Seconds tick away while she types.
When she finally stops, I hold my tongue a little longer while she gets up and walks over to the sofa across from me. She sits down and raises an eyebrow.
“Well, Mr. Falcone, what can I do for you?”
Her tone isn’t quite as icy as I expect, but that doesn’t mean she’s warming to me.
I straighten in my seat. “Robin Yates is now part of Pack Falcone.”
Her gaze moves to my throat. Still not impressed.
Why am I not surprised?
“Yes, I assumed that was coming when she let you stay in her room.” She clears her throat. “Is this where you ask me to let her leave with you?”
“No. Of course not.” I shake my head slowly.
She seems confused. Frowning, she stares at me. “Then, what do you want?”
“I want my pack to be safe, at all times. I want to rip the head off anyone who would threaten their safety. I want to let Robin stay right here where she feels safe and happy, and I want my pack to move in with her. We can help keep everyone in this building protected.”
Lana sinks back in her seat. “Uh …”
I think she’s actually speechless.
“Not what you expected?” I ask.
She laughs. “Not in the slightest.”
“I’m not the selfish prick you think I am.”
“I didn’t …”
“Let’s not pretend. You don’t like me.”
She sighs. “It’s not you. Not really. It’s …”
“Robin. She’s special.”
“Well, yeah.” She shrugs. “I didn’t want her to end up with someone who would lie to her. But you’re out here with a mark on your throat, and you’re asking me for a favor that upends your own life, not hers. It’s kind of the opposite of what I expected so maybe I judged you a bit too harshly.”
“Yeah, he’s okay,” Owen adds from his post by the door.
She looks over at him. “Just okay?”
“He might be good at security. He did have an actual plan when he came here, so he’s not a complete dumbass.”
“Thanks very much,” I mutter.
Owen shrugs. “You got caught, dude.”
“Dude?” I ask.
He smirks.
Well, it’s going to be a challenge to work alongside another pack, but at least Lana can see now I’m not the asshole she assumed I was.
“I need a coffee,” Lana mutters.
“That might have to wait,” Owen tells her as he gestures to the shadows outside the frosted glass on the door. “I think the rest of Pack Falcone just got here.”
