Epilogue
CHASSIS
ONE MONTH LATER
Tears well in my eyes as I see what’s in front of me.
A party. And not just any party, a baby shower.
Except this is the craziest baby shower I’ve ever witnessed in my entire life.
My lips smile widely as I sink my teeth into the flesh of my bottom lip to keep from crying and laughing simultaneously.
“She’s here,” Alex cries.
The whole pool party turns around, and men and women alike cheer for me. And it is a pool party. There is a banner hanging over the small arbor area that says “Splish Splash Baby Bash” in blue letters.
There is music playing in the background, the pool is full of blue beach balls, and everyone is wearing their suits. I’ve got my suit on as well but am wearing a cover-up dress that is see-through and hits me at midthigh.
A warm hand presses against the small of my back and applies gentle pressure to move me forward. My feet move, more like a shuffle instead of picking them up and walking forward, but I make it to the party nonetheless. I can’t believe that everyone is here, that they came for me.
And all these big badass bikers are standing at this pool, themed Splish Splash Baby Bash. I can’t decide whether I want to burst into tears or laugh at the sight. So instead of laughing and crying simultaneously, I just smile.
Elodie wraps her arms around me, and I welcome the hug. I don’t think I could have ever imagined I would find friendship with Elodie, Juliette, and Alex. Not that there is anything wrong with them. It’s rather that I am more of a closed-off person, a loner, always have been.
Elodie takes a step backward, keeping her hands on my biceps as she looks into my eyes. I bite my bottom lip, hard, trying to keep from crying. She shakes her head once, her eyes focused on mine.
“Don’t you dare cry. This is a good day. I got all these big bastards here, with baby gifts.”
My lips curve up into a grin, and I nod a couple of times. “Okay,” I breathe. “No tears.”
Elodie lifts her hand. The music is turned up, and the conversations begin to flow. I begin to mingle in the crowd, finding Juliette, who is also pregnant and just beginning to show. She reaches for my hand, squeezing it gently.
“How are you feeling?” I ask.
“Good,” she exhales. “Tired.”
My lips curve up, and I laugh softly. “I’d like to tell you that goes away, but I have a feeling it is here to stay, probably for the rest of our lives.”
She places her hand on her newly swelling belly, then tilts her head to her side, her lips slightly curved, and gets this dreamy look in her eyes. “I know. Isn’t it wonderful?”
“Absolutely amazing,” I respond.
An arm slides around my shoulders, and I look over to see that it’s Alex standing beside me. He turns his head, his lips touching the top of my hair.
“Hey, mama,” Alex murmurs. “Lookin’ good, babe.”
Then Fantasy moves from his side and stands in front of me. He’s wearing swim trunks and his cut, which causes my lips to twitch into a smirk. They all look wild, and I know they are, but it’s hilarious to me.
Leather and swim trunks—it’s amazing in its own way. I know their hearts are gold, proven yet again by the fact that they are here on a Sunday, attending a baby shower and bringing gifts.
“Welcome to your day, Chassis. Let’s have a good time. There’s food and cake, so it can’t be a bad day.”
“Any day with all of you is a good damn day,” I state.
Moments later, I’m whisked away by Elodie and taken beneath the arbor to see the cake before it’s cut. “Presents can happen when you get home, but food is always a must,” she states.
Once I’m beneath the arbor, I realize I needed the shade. Amos appears at my side out of nowhere. Turning my head slightly, I look up at him. He flicks his eyes down to meet mine, his lips curving up into a grin.
“Happy?” he asks.
“Beyond,” I whisper.
And I am. I couldn’t imagine a world, a place, or a situation where I could be happier than I am in this exact moment—with Amos, with these people, my family. Sure, I have my father and brothers in Prescott, and they’re my family, too. But this is where I was meant to be.
Here.
With Amos, with Juliette, with Elodie and Alex.
But especially with my Amos.
He slides his arm around my waist, pulling me close against his side.
Placing my palm against his chest, I look up at him.
My heart. That’s what Amos is. He’s my heart.
I didn’t think I could actually fall in love with someone and that it would be real.
I figured luck wasn’t on my side in the man department, especially after Samuil.
But I didn’t realize that it wasn’t my time. This is my time. Amos is my time. He turns me to face him, his hand sliding around my waist before resting against my lower back. He dips closer to me, touching his lips to mine.
“I love you, sweetheart,” he murmurs.
“Holy fucking shit,” a voice growls.
We turn our heads. Hound is staring at a woman.
She’s standing at the side of a car and has hitched a baby carrier up on her arm.
It’s nestled in the crook of her elbow. I open my mouth to ask him if everything is okay, but Amos turns me in his arms, his gaze connecting to mine, and he grins as he watches me for a moment.
“Let him handle whatever that is. This day is for you.”
Then I hear the rumbling of motorcycles—a group of them, and Amos spins me around to face the gate. My breath hitches, and the tears that have been threatening to spill all afternoon finally begin to fall. My dad, Piston, Gauge, and Clutch are pulling into the parking lot.
My heart swells because this man doesn’t just love me—he knows me. He wants to show me just exactly how deep that love goes, and I think that could be the best and most beautiful part about him. Minus the amazing sex, of course.
I don’t just love this man and this new baby—I love my life.
Every single part of it.
