Chapter 18

Rogue

Ipick up the call as soon as I see King’s name lighting up my screen. “Prez.”

“Hey, brother. Link told me you were playing bodyguard for one of Shay’s friends. Are things going okay? You deal with the ex yet?

Things are fucking amazing, and as far as the ex is concerned, he needs to take a hike or he’s going to regret pressing forward with my woman. I don’t want anyone treading on my territory. And that girl is mine.

“He’s been silent, but we’ll see if things stay that way.” I fail to believe he’s done. I think he’s just trying to figure out his next angle. “How are things out east?” Last I saw him, he was wrapped up with a little sweetbutt in his bed.

“I’m back home. Axle and Ice have shit under control for now, but things are blowing up out here.”

“Shit. You serious? What’s going on?”

No one’s told me shit. But they all know I’m on assignment.

“Things I can’t talk about over the phone,” he grits. “I called because there’s some shit that needs to be handled and since it’s concerning that father of yours, I figured you’d want to lead the charge.”

The motherfucker doesn’t learn, does he?

I can’t fucking imagine what he’s up to this time.

I thought he’d realize I wasn’t messing around.

But being as though I never followed through on my threat, he probably thinks he’s in the clear.

I’ve just been waiting for the right time to strike is all. Plus, I’ve been a little preoccupied.

“Yeah. I want to be the one to handle it. I’ll swing by the clubhouse this afternoon.” Hopefully, I can convince my girl to come with me. I want her to meet everyone.

“Sounds good. Drive safe.”

“Will do.”

As soon as we hang up, I hear the front door open and nearly launch off the bed to go to her.

“Shit, babe. Was the test that bad?” The look on her face raises my nerves. Damn, I hope she didn’t fail on account of me. I haven’t been a good influence since I’ve been here. She didn’t get any studying done last night.

“The test was fine. I think I aced it. But Alex was waiting for me after class.”

That fucker doesn’t know when to quit. He’s a persistent son of a bitch.

“What’d he want?”

“He brought me the divorce papers to prove that he was following through with it. I don’t know why he won’t leave me alone. I told him I’ve moved on, but he doesn’t believe me. I don’t even know what to do anymore.”

I do. It’s time to pay the good ol’ doc a visit and teach him what happens to fuckers who harass my girl. He’ll be lucky if he can ever do another surgery again.

“Just need you to give me his name, babe, and I’ll handle it.”

“And by handle it, what do you plan on doing?”

I wrap my arms around her waist, feeling better now that she’s close.

“I’m going to make sure he never bothers my girl again. If he doesn’t heed the warning, then he’ll have to pay. I won’t tolerate him or anyone else disrespecting your boundaries or thinking they have right to what’s mine.”

“Yours?” She looks up with those bright eyes. “Would you mind defining what that means?”

It means I’m hoping that what we’re building here is going to last. Izabelle is something truly special, and I’m praying things will work out between us.

“It means that I’m hoping like hell you’ll fall in love with me.”

I feel the weight of her frame grow heavy in my arms and see those pretty cheeks turning warm and rosy.

“You don’t have to hope too hard, Rogue. I’ve kind of got a major crush on you.”

“Is that so?” I lean down and brush my nose against the tip of hers. “I think we can do better than that.”

I scoop her up and carry her back to her bed, and then I spend the next two hours kissing and petting every inch of her body.
