Chapter 12
“Not you went to Port Isle and found you a damn man. A whole ass, real ass man, Indie?” Ashley asked.
I giggled. Last night had been magical. We enjoyed the beach party into the wee hours of the morning.
We fell asleep in his hotel once again, but this morning, I decided to go back to my room and gather my thoughts, even just for a moment.
I knew it wouldn’t be long before I was back in Azari’s space, because I didn’t want to be away from him, which was why I was currently on the phone with Ashley’s crazy ass.
She had been blowing up my phone, and I knew I needed to call her before she sent out a search party.
“I really like him, Ash. More than I meant to,” I confessed.
She squealed. “See! This is exactly why your ass needed to go on this vacation! You need some excitement in your life. And he lives here in Jacksonville?”
“Yup. Crazy, right?”
“Who his people?” she asked as I put my phone on the bed so I could get dressed.
I had just got out of the shower and called Ashley right away to fill her in on everything. I filled her in on everything I knew about Azari and his people that he had told me over the last few days.
Once Ashley determined she didn’t know him, she asked, “So, you gonna tell me how the sex was yet?”
“Ash, no.” I giggled as I slipped an orange sundress over my head.
She groaned. “You know I’m living vicariously through you, right?”
“You act like you don’t have a husband who adores you at your beck and call.”
Silence stretched through the phone before she said, “Yeah, but he ain’t giving me no Port Isle, dick.”
I laughed loudly. “Girl, bye.”
“What? I’m just saying. I’m jealous.”
“Well, I think I’m about to start making some changes in my life, so one day in the not-so-distant future, maybe we can all take a trip here so you and my brother-in-law can get back to your old selves.”
“What kinds of changes, Indie?” Ashley asked, her tone curious.
I shrugged, though she couldn’t see me since we weren’t on FaceTime. “Career changes.”
“Whoa. That’s big.”
“I know,” I replied.
“Don’t get me wrong. I think you work way too hard, but being a lawyer has always been you. I’ve known you through all the hard work in college and all that. You saying you’re going to give all that up?”
When she said it like that, it made me pause. I sat down on my bed and stared at the wall. Was I going to give all that up? Ashley was right. I worked my ass off for my career. Did I really want to throw it all away?
“I’m burnt out,” I argued weakly.
“I know, and your ass should be. I’m not saying changing careers is a bad idea at all. I’m just saying… maybe think about it some more? Some good dick will have a bitch rearranging her life at the drop of a dime. Ain’t nothing wrong with it as long as it’s actually what you want.”
I sat with her words and pondered them for a second before I said, “I guess you’re right. I don’t want to make any hasty decisions just because I’m feeling good in the moment.”
“That’s all I’m saying, bestie. I’m all for you making some changes. Just make sure you properly think them through.”
“I got you, but hey, I’m going to finish getting ready for the day. I’ll text you later.”
“Make sure you do. I know you done found some dick, which I’m proud of you for that, but don’t make me worry about your ass,” Ashley scolded.
“My bad, Ash. I won’t.”
We said our goodbyes, and I tossed my phone to the side before I laid back on the bed and looked up at the ceiling.
Was I moving too fast? Azari definitely had me wide open.
Were my decisions irrational because I was like a kid in a candy store?
I wasn’t sure, but suddenly, I felt like I needed to move more carefully so I didn’t turn my world upside down because I got a little taste of fun and didn’t know how to act.
I sighed. All I wanted to do now was take a nap. I grabbed my phone and sent a quick text to Azari to let him know I would catch up with him later before I pulled my dress back off and got comfortable under the covers.
