Chapter 7
Chapter Seven
Josephine
I’m a total coward. Yep. That’s exactly what I am for the way I left Scythe’s room.
Then again, after he left, I ended up freaking out because who the hell has a sex swing hanging in the corner.
And of course, thoughts started spilling into my head of when I’d seen him with those two women.
Even more images rushed through my mind, these filling with the idea of me being in that contraption. There’s no way I could do that.
Nope. No way. I’m not someone who can do that.
Just the very reminder of it hanging in his room sent me spiraling. I already knew I couldn’t stay since I needed to get on the road, but that didn’t mean I didn’t want to stay. To continue what the two of us started.
My body still hums from just him using his mouth on my breasts.
Thoughts of what could have happened and what did cause turmoil, and I can’t help but wonder if I did stay if he’d have thrown me out after he got what he wanted.
He told me to stay, that we were going to finish what we started, but what if he’d come back in the room and told me to get dressed and leave?
What if it was all just the heat of the moment?
Scythe claimed I was his, though I don’t believe him. It’s total BS.
How can he claim I am when he’s acted otherwise?
A sigh slips past my lips as I lean against the headrest and focus on the road.
For the next four days, I can block out everything that has to deal with Scythe.
It’s going to be all about the competition.
There’re several events that I’ll be participating in myself, but there are even more throughout the days.
There are different dirt tracks for motocross, four-wheelers, and ATVs.
Then there’s the mud bogging, which is always interesting to watch and join in on.
They have different classes for it, from lifted trucks, jeeps, and even tractors. I’ll be in the one for four-wheelers and can’t wait. I’ve made sure I’m totally ready for this weekend.
It does suck that no one will be with me, but if they were, I wouldn’t be able to focus. I’d be worried they’d think I was doing something wrong, or they’d try and stop me. I know my friends wouldn’t, however, their men might, and I can’t have that.
Blinking, I get comfortable and turn onto the interstate. It’s time to put everything to the side and simply enjoy what I love doing for myself.
Adjusting the gloves on my hand, I flex my fingers, making sure they’re on properly, and give my dirt bike one last look over. You can never be too cautious in ensuring everything is in order. The last thing you want is to have a line break while you’re out there in the middle of a race.
Satisfied that all looks good, I straighten and grab my helmet from its place in my trailer. I tuck it on one of the handlebars and start backing my bike down the ramp. I glance up, noticing a shadow, only to come up short at the sight of Jamie standing there, arms crossed over his chest.
“What are you doing here?” I blurt and glance around nervously, hoping no one else is with him.
“What do you think I’m doing here?” Jamie asks, cocking a brow.
“I didn’t tell you about this weekend.”
“I know you didn’t, but still I knew about it.” He shrugs and looks at my dirt bike. “Everything good with the bike?”
“Yes. I just finished checking over it. Are you here alone? You didn’t tell Mom and Dad about this, did you?”
“You don’t have to worry about them, JoJo. They’re here somewhere, and before you freak the fuck out, they’ve known about your racing and have seen them all, same as me. If they didn’t get to see it in person, they got to watch the videos I’d send to them—”
“Come again? You’ve videoed my races?”
“Don’t look so shocked,” he says sternly.
“Damnit, Jamie. You can’t be here.” I lick my bottom lip nervously, feeling my heart racing a mile a minute. “You need to leave. I . . . I have to focus.”
Jamie steps closer and cups either side of my face. “Look at me, Jos.” I do as he orders and stare at him with wide eyes. “You’ve got this. I know you do. Block everything else out. All you have to do is focus. Don’t think of anything else right now but winning your race.”
I nod and take a deep breath. “I need to go,” I murmur, put my helmet on, and head for the starting line.
I close my eyes and take a deep breath, refocusing on what I’m about to do and not on the fact my brother and parents are all here. At least it’s just them. God knows what I’d do if I knew the others were here.
Straddling my dirt bike, I start it up and rev the throttle a bit.
“Everyone ready?”
I give a thumbs up, as do the others in the lineup.
A moment later, the green flag is waved, and the race is on. I hit the throttle and go, my mind on one thing. Winning.
I pump my arm in the air finishing in first place, and grin.
My heart races and adrenaline flows through my veins.
I love racing like this. That last jump was awesome, and I’d let my legs fly up as I went flying in the air.
Talk about one hell of a jump. I could hear the crowd cheering.
Hitting the dirt, I saw the finish line and shot straight for it with two people right on my ass.
It was a close race until the last curve and that jump.
If I hadn’t been able to get the lead, I wouldn’t be taking first right now.
It takes a few moments before we’re able to head out.
I’ll be racing again tomorrow against the others who take first in the other rounds.
I barely get off my helmet when I hear the cheers and squeals calling my name.
I whip around to see my brother along with my parents, but also the club and my friends.
I’m going to kill Jamie.
Inwardly sighing, I paste a smile on my face. Though I am genuinely happy I won, I didn’t want an audience. Damnit.
“What are you all doing here?” I ask, climbing off the dirt bike and hanging the helmet on a handlebar.
“That was awesome,” Daemon’s son, Hendrik, says, starting the round of compliments and hugs from everyone.
But I ignore them all as I meet the dark seductive eyes that belong to Scythe. He doesn’t say anything, just watches me, and it’s all I can do to tear my gaze from his.
Clearing my throat, I smile at everyone. “I appreciate you all being here, but I don’t have time right now to talk. Not that I want to be mean, but I’ve got to get to my trailer with the bike to get ready for the next event.”
“You don’t race again until tomorrow,” Ivy says.
“She’s going boggin’,” Jamie answers for me with a devilish grin in place.
“Oh shit,” Sutton blurts, eyes wide.
“You really boggin’?” Everleigh asks, biting her bottom lip and staring around at the guys.
“Yeah.” I nod and avoid looking at the guys. Mostly try not to glance at Scythe again. “How about afterward, I’ll meet up with you all, and we can hang out?”
“Sounds good.” Isabelle laughs. “Have fun.”
Smiling at her, I look at my parents and open my mouth to speak, but my dad beats me to it.
“Don’t worry about any of us being here,” he says, knowing me just like my brother. “Remember, it’s not about those watching but the task itself. Have fun, focus, and do what you do best.” Kissing my cheek, he steps back and guides my smiling mom away.
Releasing a breath, I ignore Scythe and head to where I’ve got my truck parked with the trailer.
I toe the stand down and steady my bike next to the side of the trailer under the canopy I set up with a chair under it for when I need to take a break and chill.
It’s all I can do to keep from flipping out because I can all but sense Scythe right behind me.
Going to the side door of the trailer, I unlock it and step inside. For this next bit, I’ve got to change.
I barely get my protective gear off before I find myself pinned to the sidewall and Scythe’s mouth on mine. Those hands of his gripping my waist, holding me in place as he presses into me, letting me feel his erection.
Oh boy, by the feel of that and the way he thrusts his tongue in my mouth, I know I’m in trouble. But I don’t know if I should be scared or not.
