Chapter 43

Mallory wanted answers. Apparently she was trying to get onto my property for the last two weeks, but no one would let her in while I was in a coma.
She wanted to talk to Harlow, but no one felt comfortable breaking the news to her.
It was my job to shatter everyone’s hearts, but when my heart was the one captive, I guess I could break someone else’s.
She deserved the truth.
Harlow would want her to know, but I didn’t know how to do it.
Mallory was at her foster home with her foster kids. This woman was a saint, and I couldn’t fathom how she was able to handle her own children, plus a dozen others, while having multiple foundations.
I walked into the foundation and Mallory instantly found me from across the room. She had Serenity in her arms. When she saw me, she wiggled free and raced towards me.
“Is Row with you?” she asked as she leaped into my arms.
“Cat, please tell me you brought Harlow? No one is telling me anything and your trip was over a month ago.”
I pressed my lips together. “I know. She…he took her.”
The air left the room. Mallory was trying to process it, but it was the little girl who spoke first. “Is Row back with the bad man? The one who hurt her?” I ran my hands through Serenity’s hair. “Is she gone like Mommy?”
There was a lump forming in my throat. How did I tell her? How did she know about Vincenzo? “I’m going to find her, sweetie. We should talk somewhere, privately,” I said, looking at Mallory.
“I want to know!” Serenity yelled.
“What happened?” Mallory asked as she closed the door to her office.
I took a seat and Serenity crawled on my lap. She was careful of my arm. The connection Harlow felt, I felt it too, but I didn’t know how to react currently.
“We were getting ready to celebrate her birthday before coming home. He hit our car when we were going to the dock for our private dinner cruise.”
Mallory covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face. “That’s why no one would tell me anything because you were hurt.”
“He thinks I’m dead. Harlow thinks I’m dead.
“Oh my God,” she whispered. “She’s…” She paused because of Serenity in my lap.
“Yes. Vincenzo is hurting her like before, and I am going to find her. I will burn this city to the ground if I have to, but I will bring her home.”
Mallory let out a shaky breath. “I’m going to help where I can. Information, contacts, a place for you to rest your head. I don’t care. Call me. Keep me updated. I’m helping you.”
I met her eyes. She was a loyal friend, and her love for Harlow was true. “Thank you. I am going to bring her home. She’s going to need us all.”
“And she’ll have us all. Whatever is needed.”
Serenity poked my face, and I looked down at her.
“Can you give her something when you find her?” I nodded, and then Serenity kissed my face.
“I want to see her when she’s better.” “I’ll make sure she sees you.
I’ll come visit you, okay?” Serenity nodded as Mallory grabbed her. “I’ll keep you updated.”
It was time to paint the streets red and bring my wife home.
