Chapter 12
Chapter
Twelve
The next time I awoke, I wasn’t alone. The angel I’d seen before was sitting in the cell’s corner.
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.
She looked up, though, her eyes lighting up.
Getting up, she stepped up to me. Her hand touched my skin, and I flinched for a moment before sinking into her touch.
“Good morning, mate. How are you feeling?”
Mate? Was I her mate? I couldn’t remember. Swallowing, my throat felt like sandpaper. She could read everything I needed as she grabbed a water bottle near where she was sitting. Holding the bottle to my lips, she trickled the water down my throat.
“I’ve got you, don’t worry. Take it slow, I’m here.”
The water went down and I wanted to gulp it, but she wouldn’t let me. Eventually, I got too greedy and coughed. She pulled the bottle away, wiping the corner of my mouth with her thumb softly. Her eyes watched me with worry.
“M-Mate?” My voice sounded like a croak.
She smiled and nodded. “Yes. Mate. I’m your mate and you are mine. I can’t get you down yet; they won’t let me take you. Not yet, but I’ll free you soon.”
Swallowing, I couldn’t understand what happened. I couldn’t remember anything. I couldn’t even remember my own mate’s name. Tears slipped down my face, and she brushed them away gently.
“It’s okay, Marcus. I’m here. Everything will be alright. I’ll get you fixed up here. It will be as if nothing had happened. Don’t worry.”
I nodded, leaning into her touch. She obliged for a moment before pulling her hand away. I whimpered, trying to reach back out to her. My body was too weak, and I couldn’t hold myself up on my legs.
“I’ll be back. Don’t worry. We will work on this. It will be slow going, but I promised you it will be worth it.”
My tears fell more as I watched my mate step out of the cell and close it behind her. She disappeared from my sight, and I sagged against the chains. What happened? Why was I here? What was going on? Did I do something bad?
Eventually, not being able to move and just hanging from the wall, I fell back unconscious.
