Chapter 29 – Hunter Hunter Stevens Miller Mess Around #2

He had a good a point. I swallowed hard as I watched Mr. Halifax and Sophie stop in front of the cops. Why hadn’t Sophie flushed it when I’d told her to? This was such a disaster!

“You said you found drugs on the premises?” the taller cop asked.

Mr. Halifax handed him Sophie’s purse.

“Can you maybe just take it out of the purse?” Sophie asked. “It’s couture.” She smiled politely up to him.

Why was she not freaking out right now? Or running? Or jumping through that window to escape?!

“We’ll need to bring it with us,” he said. “It’s evidence.”

Sophie sighed.

“And are these your drugs, miss?” the cop asked.

I turned to Axel. “I have to do something. Maybe we can cause a distraction so she can run?”

“Mr. Halifax knows her. He’d just give the cops her name.”

“We could kill Mr. Halifax,” RJ said with a shrug.

“Are you insane?” I asked.

“I know a guy that knows a guy.”

“We’re not killing anyone,” Jacob said. “We need to cause a distraction and then threaten Mr. Halifax.”

“Are you thinking blackmail?” RJ asked. “Because I’m thinking blackmail.”

This was such a mess. “I don’t know. But we agree we need a distraction?”

“Definitely.” RJ smiled. “A classic Hunter Hunter Stevens Miller mess around. We could doctor a photo to make it seem like Mr. Halifax slept with Soph. Then blackmail him with it. He’s already been sus this whole semester.

I mean, everyone thought he was hooking up with you, Scar.

Wait. Better idea. We’ll doctor a naked photo of you with him.

Much more believable. Scar, get naked real quick. ” RJ pulled out his phone.

“What is wrong with you?” Axel asked.

“What do you mean?” RJ asked. “It’s a classic Hunter Hunter Stevens Miller mess around...”

I didn’t let him finish his sentence this time. “Fire!” I yelled at the top of my lungs. Because it was the first distraction I could think of that didn’t involve me nude. “Fire!”

Everyone turned and stared at me. Where there was no fire. Damn it!

“You really should have consulted me on the plan,” RJ whispered. “More of a Hunter Stevens Miller mess around now, am I right, guys?”

Liam ran over to us. “What is going on? Where’s the fire?”

“Good, it’s back to a Hunter Hunter Stevens Miller mess around,” RJ said. “And there is no fire. Scarlett’s gone rogue and has been kicked out of the plotting. And where the heck have you been?”

“Hooking up with my date in the library.”

Ew. Had I hooked up with Axel a few shelves away from my little brother and his old date? How close had they been exactly? Had I almost seen my brother’s... No. Stop it. Yikes.

“New idea,” I said. “Let’s get Liam’s date arrested for having sex with a minor.”

“Absolutely not,” Liam said.

“But Sophie’s about to go to prison for the rest of her life!”

“I’m not getting my date arrested.”

“But she’s not blood!”

“Well, she only gave me head, so...”

Gah!

“I think maybe that still counts as seducing a minor?” Jacob said.

“Does it?” Liam shrugged. “Huh.”

“It’s really tempting to just tell the cops the drugs are Leo’s,” Axel said.

“That’s just as bad as throwing Liam’s hot date under the bus,” RJ said.

“But he’s already gotten in trouble with the law. It’s at least believable.”

“We’re not getting Leo sent back to wilderness camp just because he’s kissed me a couple times,” I said.

“Then what do you want to do?” Axel asked. “We’ll take your lead.”

“I don’t know!”

“She’s not a part of this anymore,” RJ said. “It’s a Hunter Hunter Stevens Miller mess around. Not a Hunter Hunter Hunter Stevens Miller mess around.”

“What about me?” Liam’s date asked.

Who even are you?! “Fire!” I yelled again.

The shorter cop gave me a dirty look and turned back to Sophie.

“We’re only going to ask you one more time,” he said. “Are these drugs yours?”

Mr. Halifax stepped in front of Sophie. “No,” he said. “She found them in the hallway and shoved them in her purse so no one else would find them. And she came straight to me to turn them in.”

“Is he covering for her?” Axel whispered. “Or is that what Sophie told him?”

“I have no idea,” I said.

“Is that true, miss?” the tall cop asked.

Sophie looked up at Mr. Halifax and then back at the cop. “Yes. I found them and went straight to my teacher like the good girl I am.”

“Eye roll,” RJ said.

The cop nodded. “We appreciate you giving us a call about a potential drug bust tonight,” he said to Mr. Halifax.

“So he called ahead of time?” Axel asked. “Before he knew it was Soph? I think he was covering for her.”

“They’re definitely going to fuck,” Liam said.

“Sh.” I hit his arm. I was still trying to eavesdrop.

“We’re going to have to take this,” the cop said.

“Wait.” The shorter one peered into the purse. “One second.” He grabbed his keys from his pocket and cut into the half-kilo in Sophie’s purse. He put some on his finger and sniffed it. “I think this is lavender scented baby powder.”

“What?” The other cop lifted the purse up to his face and sniffed it. He shook his head and then sighed. “Definitely baby powder.” He shoved the purse back into Sophie’s arms.

She looked very disturbed. And I wasn’t sure why. She’d wanted her purse back. And she wasn’t getting arrested.

“I’m not sure where you found that,” he said. “But someone was just playing a prank. Still, thanks for the call,” he said to Mr. Halifax.

Mr. Halifax nodded. “No problem.”

RJ laughed. “Baby powder. That’s funny. Don’t you all think that’s hilarious?” He giggled. “Did anyone see that coming? Any of you?”

I turned to him.

He burst out laughing.

“Dude, did you sell her baby powder?” Jacob asked.

“No.” RJ kept laughing. “I flushed her cocaine and swapped it with baby powder. Hehe.” He burst out laughing again.

“I mean, that was a very considerate prank,” I said.
