8. Tomorrow
A Few Days Later . . .
Between Tuesday, August, and Kyro, I didn’t know who I wanted to throw the hell away first. All three of them worked my nerves in their own individually special ways, but I loved them all. I just wanted to choke them all.
First, we had my brother and his new place of residence that everyone knew about except me.
Yep, I found out that even Tuesday knew that August had moved into his own apartment.
This was that part of the whole mother-sister thing that I didn’t like.
Siblings were supposed to band together to keep secrets from their parents, not their sister.
It was a sticky situation because they saw me as their sister, but their mother too.
When I called August to check in on him, I asked if he had something to tell me.
He told me no, but the hesitation in the response told me yes.
I fed Kyro a hearty plate of spaghetti, fucked him like a freshly hired porn star, and put him to bed.
We knew the codes for each other’s phones, so it was nothing for me to take a little look-see.
I pulled up his text thread with August, and there was an address I didn’t recognize.
The next day, I packed me and bae a little car snack. He rode passenger prince to the address that I found out was my little brother’s new apartment. Was I upset that he got an apartment? Absolutely not. Was I upset that he hid it from me? You’re damn right I was.
My brother’s apartment was nice. I was extremely proud of him, but I had to be mad for at least five minutes since he hid it from me.
After my five-minute timer went off, I celebrated with him.
August had always been financially responsible, so I knew that he wouldn’t have taken on anything that he couldn’t financially handle.
There were a couple of things that he still needed, so he, Kyro, and I went to At Home, Walmart, Dollar Tree, and a few other stores to make sure he had what he needed.
On the way back to Augusta was when I decided to make Tuesday and my move into Kyro’s house permanent.
Whew, we are moving fast. It was funny that although in the scheme of things, we hadn’t been together long, but I felt no real hesitation about my decision.
My initial hesitation had nothing to do with the length of time that Kyro and I had been together.
My hesitation came from space. Now that I knew I didn’t have to account for permanent space for August, I was comfortable with my decision.
August told me that he was scared to tell me because he thought that I would feel abandoned.
That was ironic because before I knew about his apartment, I felt if I said yes to Kyro that August would think that I had forgotten about him.
It was funny how people projected their feelings on others when that often wasn’t even the case.
How I saw it was, I had somewhere to visit in Atlanta.
My air mattress was tidy in his hallway closet.
I got over that little secret. Today, I found out another little incident that the group held from me. Everybody in my house was on cooking punishment, and Kyro was on head punishment. I couldn’t hold back pussy because that would be a punishment for me.
“Tomorrow, I would have told you. I was going to tell you anyway today,” Tuesday whined from the passenger seat of my car. We were on our way to Mrs. Loraine’s house for brunch with the ladies.
The red light gave me the time that I needed to sufficiently side-eye the hell out of my sister.
“Day, you should have told me when I got home that night and asked why you were home. Your little ass told me that you didn’t feel good, so you came home.
The only reason I know now is because that little girl came over there today crying and shit. ”
Around nine this morning, there was a soft knock on Kyro’s—well, our front door.
He had already left for the day since he had an eight-a.m. tattoo appointment.
I opened the door to a snot-faced, teary-eyed Amanda.
I was confused as hell. The girl cried so hard, I thought she would have a damn asthma attack.
Shit, did the girl have asthma? I didn’t know.
Tuesday was in the shower. I waited until she got dressed before I tried to make sense of it all. Amanda’s silly ass wouldn’t say much outside of she was sorry. Once Tuesday came out and the story unfolded, my blood heated up to the point of a change in blood pressure.
There was one major thing that I needed clarity on about the events.
Based on the accounts of both girls, Amanda was in one of the bedrooms with a few guys.
I asked her whether she had been sexually assaulted.
She paused for a beat then told me yes, but something in her yes was extremely shaky. I didn’t want to assume that she lied.
Instead of accusing her of lying, I chose to educate her on the different kinds of sexual assault.
Once I explained and made sure she understood, I asked her the question again.
That was when she admitted that the threesome was her idea.
It’s clear she does not understand that more than three people is an orgy or train.
She expressed that she said yes to my sexual assault question at first because she didn’t want people to think she was a ho.
It was important that she understood that a female could live down a ho reputation, but a man couldn’t do the same with a rape allegation.
I allowed Amanda and Tuesday to have their conversation.
From what I overheard, Amanda apologized, and Tuesday accepted it.
I also heard my sister tell Amanda that their friendship had come to a fork in the road and they should go down their different paths.
Of course, Amanda felt differently, but my sister stuck to her guns.
That made me so proud of her, but I was still pissed about the situation overall.
I always told my brother and sister that they should never hang around people who didn’t serve them.
I was sure that Amanda would find her way, but I was also sure that my sister wouldn’t be there to catch strays.
“I know, Mar. I’m sorry. I had to digest what happened myself before I could tell you. I felt like I handled the situation in the moment maturely. I called for help and got the hell out of there,” she said.
I sighed quietly. “You’re right, you did. I am proud of you for that. Day, you can’t keep these kinds of things from me. I’m not here to judge you. I’m here to guide you.”
“I know, Sis. I just don’t want to disappoint you. You work so hard to make sure me and August have everything we need and want. I don’t want to do anything that will make you think it was all a waste.” Her voice shook.
We pulled into Mrs. Loraine’s driveway. I put my car in park and turned it off before I responded.
I admired my sister’s beauty. Between the two of us, she resembled our mother the most. I borderline hated Michelle, but I would never take away the fact that she was a beautiful woman.
“Day, you are a young lady who is growing into a woman. You will make so many mistakes in life.
“The only thing that would disappoint me is if you don’t take accountability for your actions. I’m not stupid, and I know you’re going to make mistakes. One night we’ll have a sissy’s night, and I’ll tell you about all the stupid mistakes that I’ve made,” I told her.
The way her eyes lit up at the opportunity to get into my business was funny. “Okay, but if we do that, you have to promise to not leave anything out. Don’t give me half stories and truths.”
My eyes rolled before my laugh released. “I promise.” I pointed my finger at her. “Whatever happens or is said during our sissy’s nights are between us.”
She raised her right hand. “I swear! I won’t even tell the Lord, and He already knows.”
We laughed, then climbed out of the car.
I loved it when we had the chance to be around Kyro’s family.
There was so much love between me, my brother, and sister.
The added love that Kyro’s family willingly and selflessly gave us overflowed.
The women in the family brunched every weekend, and the men had a night when they hung out as well.
“Hey, babies! Y’all get in here. Mi-Kyung just took the chicken out the grease,” Mrs. Loraine said after she hugged us and ushered us into the house.
I smiled at the sight of Kara when we walked into the dining room where the food was set up. We recently hung out a few times, and I loved her. She was hilarious. His mother and both aunties were here as well.
I loved that Mrs. Mi-Kyung fried the chicken. You never knew that you loved Korean fried chicken until you had it. This was only Tuesday’s third brunch with the ladies and my fifth.
“Hey, everyone!” I walked around the table and greeted everyone. It was hugs and kisses all around.
I noticed the times that Tuesday was around the ladies, she clung to Mrs. Ji-Yeon, Kyro’s mom. She clung to Tuesday just as much. Something told me that she always wanted a daughter at some point. Tuesday wasn’t a baby, but she helped with the craving.
All the food was on the table less than twenty minutes later. Mrs. Loraine prayed, then we all dug in. Casual conversation happened around the table like it always did. That was until a question stopped all movement.
“So, Tomorrow, when are you going to give me a grandbaby?” Mrs. Ji-Yeon asked as casually as she would have asked for a second serving of grits. The question felt as heavy as grits.
My hand covered my mouth as I lightly coughed. I took a slow sip of my glass of water. “Oh, wow. That question caught me by surprise.” How the hell do you answer a random-ass question like that? “Kyro and I haven’t really had a discussion about children.”
Rachel, Kara’s mother, chuckled. “So, you’re on birth control? Y’all are using protection?”
