Chapter 27
CHAPTER 27
Diesel jumped awake when Viper’s cell phone shrilled on the night stand. She hadn’t realize she’d fallen asleep.
“Viper.”
“Who is it?” Diesel asked groggily.
“How far out are you?”
Diesel woke up fully when Viper jumped out of the bed to grab his pants from the floor. It looks like snuggle time was officially over.
“What’s wrong?” Diesel asked, putting her clothes on quickly, matching his urgency.
“Texas says the group is taking fire. They have two SUV’s. Brocard, Rameriez and Cortez were in the front one with a package and my guys were in the second one. Looks like they were boxed in from both ends. They are fifteen minutes out according to the GPS. ”
“I’ll sound the alarm. Let’s go!”
Diesel ran out of the room and banged on Pratt, Raso and York’s doors. When all three doors opened, she relayed the message.
Within three minutes of the call coming in, all four women, along with Viper, Highlander, Marcus and Jacko were heading down the stairs behind them and out of the door. Highlander relayed the situation to Hank as they were rushing out of the door.
Within five minutes, three SUVs were barreling out of Hanks driveway towards their troubled teammates. Following behind them was a fourth SUV belonging to Warcloud with Hank, Jace and Catori in the passenger seats.
What would have normally taken them the fifteen minutes, took them less than five with the rate of speed they drove. When they came upon the scene, seeing their team blocked in from the front and the back of their vehicles, the first two SUV’s drove side by side, guns out of the windows firing upon the suspects on their side of the highway.
Once those suspects were down, they moved to the side to give the third SUV room to squeal tires as they did a U-turn and stopped. Pratt, Raso, York and Diesel advanced towards their teammates, grabbing the package as they ran back to the waiting SUV. Once Kermit, Brocard, Cortez were in the vehicle, Raso and Marcus jumped in and hauled ass out of the firefight, getting the package away from the scene.
Warcloud and the crew in his vehicle arrived just as the SUV was pulling away. Hank, Jace and Warcloud joined in the firefight along with Kap and Texas. The shootout was over within a matter of seconds, rather than minutes when the newcomers arrived.
Once the shooting had ended, the remaining women of Alpha Squad, advanced on the suspects with the men covering their sixes from behind. They had counted fifteen bodies in total, a sixteenth badly injured from a shoulder and knee wound.
As the team assessed the rest of the bodies, Pratt and Diesel had to do a double take on two bodies they came across. Both women looked at each other before shaking their head.
“Um, Hank. You might want to come over here. I think I found out how they knew about our team coming in,” Pratt advised Hank as she pointed out their location.
“What’s up?”
Pratt sighed heavily as she looked at Hank for a few moments deciding how to break the news to him. Diesel stepped in before Pratt could respond.
“First, looks like the body in the passenger was taken out before this shitshow started. Chip is in the front passenger seat with a GSW to the side of his head. The position of the body you’re coming up on, looks to be that fucker Fullman. Probably one of us took him out since he’s outside his vehicle facing forward and a weapon in hand.”
“Son-of-a-bitch,” Hank swore, rubbing his face with his hands as he walked around and saw what the two women were looking at.
“It’s not on you, Hank so lose that thought now. You did what you could for Fullman. Everyone on our team is safe and sound. I’m sorry about Chip, though. He seemed solid when we met him,” Pratt softly said as she patted Hank’s arm.
“He was a good kid. He left Delta Force to come here to take care of his sister who was in an abusive marriage. Helped her get away from the fucker. She and the little one she had stayed with him until they could get on her feet. He came to me yesterday to tell me he didn’t want to work with Fullman anymore and why. I fired the son-of-a-bitch yesterday. Fullman, I mean.”
“Someone didn’t want us getting that package. Twenty bucks on who that someone was,” York stated as she came up to Diesel and Pratt.
“Package?” Jacko asked joining the growing group.
“Yep. Something very important,” Pratt smirked at the man as four figures walked their way. “Damn! If I wasn’t happily married, I’d climb you both like a fucking monkey and give you two a kiss. You two are a hot sight for my eyes!”
SMACK
“I’m standing right here, lass!” Highlander growled down at his wife.
“I have to agree with the redhead,” Diesel laughed before jumping when Viper copied Highlander’s swat to her ass.
“Ha! I’m as single as they come,” York laughed as she walked over to give Kap and Texas a tight hug and a sounding kiss on both their lips.”
Pratt and Diesel couldn’t help the clap and laughter they gave when Jacko growled at Texas when he dipped York when she gave him the sounding smack to the lips. The men could only just shake their heads at the display.
“Why thank you, darling. Anytime you’re ready to be that monkey, I’ll happily let you climb this tree,” Jeremy “Texas” Houston drawled with his southern Texas drawl.
“You, my brother, are courting death,” Kapena “Kap” Hunt chuckled.
“Ah, but what a way to go.” Texas laughed as he squeezed York again before letting her go.
“Alright, Diesel and Viper stayed behind to deal with the fiasco on the reservation. York, you, Jacko and Texas over there stay for this cleanup. Hank, I know you know the sheriff and probably the rest of the people who will be responding to this, do you want to stay here with them to deal with them, or have them send five-o to your place for your statement on everything?” Pratt asked, looking over at Hank for his response.
“Have him contact me if there’s any questions about what went down. Let them know you were working for me, and we were dealing with the rest of the situation,” Hank advised York as he walked away.
