Chapter 31

CHAPTER 31

“Do you know where the other girls are?” Diesel asked, smoothing the girl’s hair back out of her face.

“The keys? Did you find the keys? There’s a door towards the back of the house that has several locks on it. If you can find the keys, you’ll be able to unlock the door and find the girls.”

York and Pratt went back to the bodies and searched around for the keys that Enola had mentioned. They found the specialized keys for the locks that were mentioned and then went on the hunt for the door the young girl had mentioned.

Once they had found the door, they unlocked it and had to step back and center themselves. They should not have been as shocked as they were with what they had found.

There was a god-awful stench in the room which told them there was no working toilet, nor a bucket for the girls to relive themselves so they had chosen a corner to designate as their bathroom. The girls were in dirty clothing and obviously had not had a bath in weeks.

One by one they brought the girls out of the room, every single girl was one of the Native American that had been taken from the reservation in the last couple of months. Each one of the girls were petrified that they were being kidnapped again.

“What will happen to us?” one little girl asked Enola as she pulled on her hand.

“Well, we will take you all to the hospital to be checked out. The fact you girls are sober right now, not high is a good thing.”

“They liked it when we fought or cried. Said it makes them happier and more excited with the pain they caused us. They told us our family wasn’t looking for us. Will my mom be angry that you found us?” a young girl asked as she stepped forward.

Pratt looked at the young girl who couldn’t have been more than thirteen. She really wanted to revive Gabe Alberty and beat the living shit out of the man.

“No, sweetie. Your mom will be happy you are all found. I promise.”

Twenty-four hours later, all the girl’s parents had been notified that their daughters had been found. It broke Alpha Squad’s hearts that they were only able to find so little of them.

While they knew that they had got lucky in this case, and that it could have gone so much worse, they still had a hard time with the fact that they weren’t able to bring more of the missing girl’s home. They tried to celebrate the win that they did have, but knew there was more work to be done.

“Do you think you ladies can find time to meet the governor of Montana with me and Warcloud? I think Chief Blackfoot is also wanting to be there. You guys’ kind of opened his eyes to the error of his ways. Especially knowing that you had his daughter and granddaughter’s back and weren’t afraid to end his miserable life in the process,” Hank chuckled as he leaned back in his seat the next night, a beer in hand.

“Yeah. We can do that,” Sgt. Brocard answered, looking around at her teammates, minus York. “you girls find out what was going on with York yet?”

“Yeah. I think she’s going to extend her vacation for a bit. She’s on the phone with the captain now. Looks like she’s heading out in a couple of days to her hometown reluctantly. Her brother called her demanding she return home because their mother was in the hospital. When she tried to call the hospital, they refused to release any information. We have Oz looking into it now,” Diesel explained what she knew to her team leader.

“I didn’t think she talked to her family,” Jacko looked over in confusion at the women.

“She doesn’t. Her brother came to visit once. Notice I said once, in all the years she’s been with the department. That visit didn’t go well for him,” Pratt laughed at the memory, long Diesel when they high fived each other.

“What’s the story with her family, lass?” Highlander asked his wife, confusion on his face.

“Her father is a controlling asshole. She flipped him the bird when she secretly signed her military contract when she graduated high school and hasn’t been home since,” Pratt shrugged as she looked over at York on the phone, clearly agitated.

“We’ve got her back, no matter what. Personally, I’d love another chance to put her brother back on his ass,” Diesel grinned over at Pratt who laughed at the memory again.

“Ah, the good old days.”

THE END….

Well…for now…York’s story “Angel of Darkness” will come out in 2025.
