Chapter 1 Suspicious Sounds

Older Brother didn’t live in the dorms.

He stayed at his rich friend’s place.

When my parents found out,

they got nervous the two of them might catch feelings.

So they assigned me to keep tabs on them.

Two hundred yuan per visit.

For a broke college student,

that was serious money.

All I had to do was hang out for a bit.

I accepted the mission without hesitation.

I’d just fallen in love with a pair of sneakers.

I called Older Brother.

“Older Brother, are you still living at your friend’s house?”

He sounded annoyed. “What do you want?”

“I’m bored. I wanna come over and hang out, Older Brother~”

He groaned. “Can you not call me Older Brother in that disgusting voice?”

A low, lazy chuckle came through the phone.

The voice was magnetic. “I think it sounds nice.”

Older Brother snorted. “You like it? Then take him.”

“Sure.”

I was used to it.

Whenever someone complimented me as a kid,

he’d threaten to give me away.

I pressed on. “Older Brother! Send me the address!”

I needed that two hundred.

He sent it.

I took a cab to a luxury apartment tower.

He texted again: “I told security. Just give your name.”

I did.

The guard let me in.

Upstairs,

I reached for the door and found it ajar.

I pushed it open.

The living room was empty.

Voices drifted from the bedroom.

I walked closer.

I heard everything.

“Relax!”

“You’re biting so tight!”

“How am I supposed to get in?”

Older Brother whined. “I’m scared it’ll hurt.”

“Hurry up! Open wider!”

Older Brother cried out.

My mind went blank.

I froze in place.
