Chapter 7 Running Out of Places to Hide
I didn't sleep all night.
I protected my virtue.
First thing in the morning, I hobbled on crutches into Older Brother's room.
He woke up grumpy. "What the hell, so early?"
"Jiang Huai, he—"
I couldn't finish.
Older Brother smacked me lightly. "You couldn't sleep in his room, huh?"
I took the out and nodded.
He scooted over. "Sleep, then."
For the next few days, I avoided Jiang Huai on purpose.
His looks toward me got stranger.
I wanted to leave, but Older Brother wouldn't let me.
He told me to stay until I healed more.
I gave in.
That night, Jiang Huai paid Older Brother five thousand to run an errand in the next city.
As soon as Older Brother left, it was just the two of us.
I tried to get up and chase after Older Brother on my crutches.
The door was already shut.
Jiang Huai walked over. "A You, you've been avoiding me for days. Time we talked."
His stare burned.
I backed up, voice shaky. "I haven't."
He stepped closer, tilting his head. "Really?"
He towered over me.
The pressure was overwhelming.
I just wanted to run.
I grabbed my crutches and headed for the door. "I'm going out to buy something."
He caught my wrist. "Whatever it is, I'll have someone get it for you."
