Chapter 14 Empty Hands

The next day, someone delivered beef ball soup from Jiang Huai in a thermos, still hot when I got back to the dorm.

Wasting food is wrong.

I ate every drop.

After that,

Jiang Huai sent me good things to eat every few days.

But he never showed up.

I started wondering if I had gone too far that day.

The words were already out.

I couldn’t bring myself to go look for him.

Three months passed.

I had gotten used to his deliveries.

Then this week,

they suddenly stopped.

I didn’t know how to act.

My head kept asking why.

I shook it off.

This was what I wanted, right?

So why wasn’t I happy?

After a long time,

I called Older Brother.

He picked up fast.

“What?”

I tested the water. “You doing okay lately? How’s Jiang Huai?”

“You broken or something? Asking mushy crap like that. If you wanna come over, just come.”

He hung up.
