Chapter 35 Yes, We Are a Couple

-Drew-

I woke up early on the first day of school and couldn’t go back to sleep.

I was not in a rush to get ready. It is only going to take me fifteen minutes when it is time.

Instead, I started to think of nicknames for Annie.

I’d always called her Annie, but I’d always loved calling my girlfriend something special, and I wanted something special for Annie.

I went through the usual suspects—sweetheart, baby, babe, honey—and none of them felt inspired or made me think of Annie.

Maybe I’d need to let this go until later.

When I’d thought to text her good morning, “Angel” had popped into my mind.

I liked it, and hopefully, she would too.

We exchanged a few messages, and then she said she was going to shower.

I couldn’t help but imagine her naked body.

I could feel my dick getting hard as more images played out in my mind of the water running over her body in places I haven’t yet touched, but I wanted to.

I had to jump out of bed and take an extra-long shower, thinking about her.

After releasing my tension, I got out of the shower, dressed, and headed downstairs.

Annie texted that I could come over, and I figured I’d better check in with Mom or Dad that I am leaving.

Heading to the kitchen, I found it empty.

Mom has been focused on her art due to her upcoming show in October.

As I figured, they both weren’t up, so I grabbed a pastry from the pantry and ate it as I grabbed my backpack from the hook and headed over to Annie’s.

Now, I ring the doorbell and take a step back.

To my luck, Annie is the one to answer the door.

I reach out and take her hips in my hands, yanking her against me and kissing her.

I keep it short because I know Annie’s parents could appear at any point from the house.

I test out the nickname by saying, “Good morning, Angel.” I feel the shiver run through her body at my words, and I know that is all the approval I need.

I smile and give her a little push towards the door, releasing her hips.

I hadn’t taken the time to appreciate her back-to-school efforts before, but now I give myself a moment to run my eyes over her.

She’s curled her blonde hair and done her makeup, somehow making her eyes appear bluer and bigger.

If you ask me, I think she is drop-dead gorgeous without any makeup at all, but I can’t deny that when she plays up her features with makeup, it’s fucking hot.

As I continue my scan of her body, I take in the dark blue dress that hugs her boobs.

I want to feel them in my hands and taste them with my mouth, but I have vowed to myself that I am going to savor Annie.

I have all the time in the world this year to do it.

I give myself a mental shake, refocus on her, and lose myself thinking about her legs in that dress.

I verbalize my thoughts by saying, “Damn, Angel, you’re beautiful.

” Annie looks me over, too, and then says, “Thanks, hot stuff.” Then she makes a face of disgust before telling me she can do better.

She grabs my hand and leads the way to the kitchen, giving me a heads-up that her mom is making pancakes.

Mr. and Mrs. Campbell are already at the kitchen table, and the two empty chairs both have pancakes and sausages waiting.

Even though I’d had the pastry, I sit down next to Annie and enjoy breakfast with them.

Annie’s dad asks me about my pick for the winner of this year’s pennant, and the conversation finds a pretty good pace until it is time for us to leave for school.

Annie’s mom follows us to the front porch and, true to what I witnessed last year, she takes an endless number of photos of Annie with her back-to-school sign.

She even asks me to join Annie, getting more than enough photos of us with the sign.

I take Annie’s hand, and we head to my car.

***

We had decided yesterday that even though Annie has a car now, too, we wanted to go to school together, and since we both have sixth-period athletics, it would be easy to wait for each other at the car if one of us is running behind.

I park the car, and Annie makes to open the door, but before she can, I say, “Wait a minute, Angel. I think that’s my job as a dutiful boyfriend.

” She smirks and says, “It is? Well, by all means, Dimples.” Then I get one of her big smiles before she says, “That's it! That’s your nickname, it's perfect.” I show off my dimple: “You’re right, it's perfect.” I exit the car, making my way to her side, and open the door. She steps out, and I can’t help pulling her in for a quick kiss.

I like that since she’s my girlfriend, I get to do that now.

She blushes a little, looking around at all the other students in the parking lot.

“Angel, get used to PDA, because I have absolutely no willpower when it comes to wanting to kiss you.” “Mmmm, I could get used to PDA, Dimples,” she says in far too sexy a voice for the school parking lot when I don’t have time to push her against my car and perform said PDA due to the photos delay.

Instead, I hold out my hand and she takes it again as we head into school.

I leave Annie at her locker, and then I head to mine, promising her I’ll see her at lunch.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the first three periods together or even in the same wing of the building.

At least we have lunch together with all our friends, and I can’t wait to see her then.

The morning passes pretty quickly, and it’s lunch before I know it.

When I see Annie, a guy is following at her side, talking to her.

I can tell from this distance that whatever they are talking about is something that is interesting, as Annie looks all animated as she speaks.

The guy is hanging off her every word, and I can’t blame him, because I get it.

But also, I don’t like it. Instead of waiting for her to spot me, I make my way towards them.

When I do, I wrap my arm around her shoulder.

“Hi,” I whisper in her ear. I have interrupted, but I can’t say that I feel sorry about it, with her focus now on me and not the guy she was talking to.

“Hi,” she says, then she refocuses on the other guy.

“Sorry, this is Drew,” she says to him. “Drew, meet Travis. He is going out for the Visual News second sports reporting spot this year, and he was asking a few questions on the workload.” I give him a nod and say, “Nice to meet you, Travis. My girlfriend here—”(I wrap my arms around her a little tighter, pulling her into my side) “—did a great job making last year’s reports, so you couldn’t have a better guide.

” I’ll give it to the guy: he doesn’t seem to be bothered by learning that I’m her boyfriend, but he does move to put some distance between them as we continue towards the lunch room.

“You are welcome to join our group for lunch, and I can give you some information about the events you could be asked to cover,” Annie says to him.

“I mean, if it isn’t a problem, that would be great.

” Travis gives a little look in my direction.

“Yeah, no problem man—more than welcome,” I make sure to add to the conversation.

When we make it to the table, Travis makes the wise decision to sit next to Meg on the other side of the table from me and Annie.

I have to remove my arm from her shoulders, but I think the point was made.

She’s not available, because we are a couple.
