Chapter 36 Asking Me On Our First Date
-Annie-
The first week of school has flown by, and Drew and I have settled into a pretty nice pattern.
I’ve told Meg about Drew’s little reaction to Travis the first day before lunch.
She’d laughed so hard because, according to her, he was marking me as his territory.
I hadn’t thought of it like that, but it didn’t bother me then and doesn't bother me now. Partly because he hadn’t been, in the moment or since, rude to Travis.
Also, it had been nice having him call me his girlfriend without prompting.
I had felt a little bad about not introducing him as my boyfriend after realizing during my retelling of the event to Meg that I’d just introduced him as Drew.
He didn’t seem like it bothered him, so I was trying not to overthink it myself.

Travis had gotten the audition, and tonight was his screen test at the first home football game of the season.
He had unofficially joined our little friend's group, even though he was a junior.
He knew a lot about sports, so it seemed like a good fit.
I had coached him on a few of the seniors he should ask for interviews after the game.
Part of me was a little jealous to not be on the sidelines, but I realized that this also gave me one night to be with my friends and boyfriend in the senior section and to be part of all the chants and cheers.
Meg and I had gone all out with the team stickers on our faces and the Rams colors painted into our hair.
The guys had not agreed to the stickers, but they eventually gave in to having colored hair.
Drew wanted us to have matching hair, so he was the only one of the guys with the half-and-half look, the others having opted for the one-color look.
The game was against the Cardinals, and it was a pretty even game most of the night, with the Rams holding them off on defense.
I enjoyed getting to be a fan and not the reporter tonight.
I got to sing the school's fight song and do all the cheesy chants backed up by the music from the marching band. The highlight of the game was when, during a timeout, Drew leaned over and asked me, “Angel, do you have any plans tomorrow?” “Nope, I’m just planning on homework and maybe inviting my boyfriend over to watch the game.” My reply makes his dimple appear.
“Well, tell him to get lost, ok? Because I’d like to take you on that date we’ve been talking about.
” Those butterflies start to flutter in my stomach again.
I want to joke back, but I don’t, because it’s nice he is asking me on a date.
“I’m all yours, Drew,” I reply and kiss him.
The rest of the night, I’m not as focused on football; I have a date tomorrow with my boyfriend, and it seems like a much bigger deal to focus on.

I have no idea what to wear, I think as I look in my closet.
I think this would be easier if I knew what we were doing.
When I’d asked Drew on the way home, he’d said it was a surprise.
I hadn’t pushed because I liked that he was planning this for me.
But now, looking at my closet, not knowing was making everything feel like the wrong choice.
Annie
I don’t have an outfit labeled “for Surprise Date”
Drew Davis
Really, it wasn’t delivered?
Annie
Ha, Ha but really what do I wear?
Drew Davis

Annie
And here I was thinking it was optional
Drew Davis

Annie

Drew Davis
I’m leaning towards a skirt myself
Annie
See you soon Dimples
After our little exchange, I still have no idea what we are doing, but I do know Drew would prefer I wear a skirt.
With that as my focus, I find my favorite jean skirt and I pair it with one of my Griffons tanks.
Meg would have been appalled, as she would have picked one of my more fashionable tops to go with the skirt.
After changing into my outfit, I look at my appearance and like what I see.
I hadn’t tried too hard, and I am comfortable.
The tank top is a little low-cut, and the skirt is just long enough.
I am hoping the combo will drive Drew crazy.
I hear the doorbell and grab my bag, making sure I have everything.
I head down to my first date with Drew, butterflies along for the ride.
