Silas
A year into our marriage and our lives should have been perfect, but my former assistant hadn’t gotten the memo. Although we had a restraining order on Ms. Bell, she violated it.
Just three months ago, she approached my heavily pregnant wife, threatening her with a knife. Luckily, Daniel had been there and stopped the dangerous woman. Her obsession had grown too dangerous, but I didn’t know that she’d been stalking my wife.
Finally we were coming to an end with this trial.
“Yelena, you’re everything to me, and I’m never letting you go. Two years, five years, ten years, and hell, forty years from now, you’ll still be my wife. Never let anyone make you feel like my love isn’t true,” I said as we stood at the base of the courthouse steps.
We had spent a week on a trial that was beyond ridiculous.
It should have been open and shut, but Ms. Bell pleaded not guilty.
It only delayed the inevitable. She wouldn’t get out of this, but we allowed justice to do its job.
It only took the jurors one hour to find her guilty of assault and battery as well as stalking.
Even as we left the courtroom, my former assistant shouted that my wife was the mistress and she was the real wife. That dumb bitch didn’t learn her lesson. “Now she’ll be rotting in jail.”
“Yeah, but she’ll be out in less than two years.”
I dragged my beautiful wife into my arms and kissed her forehead. “Even so, I won’t let her near you or our child. You two are the greatest gifts in my life.”
“I’m so grateful you came for me, Silas. I have to ask, though.” She paused, waiting for permission she never needed.
I cupped her hands in one of mine and then brushed away strands of hair back behind her ear. “Ask me anything, my love.”
“Did you have a hand in my father’s arrest?” She knew I despised the man and couldn’t wait to get him on some charges, but I’d been too damn busy to formulate a safe plan.
I quickly chuckled. “No, sweetheart. Actually, I had nothing to do with it. Don’t get me wrong; I wanted to have him dumped in the ocean, but someone else beat me to it and had the fucker arrested while making a gun bust.”
“Apparently he really needed the money,” she remarked, indifference laced in her words.
“Now he doesn’t.” We both laughed and shook our heads. Daniel held the door open for us. He earned a massive bonus for protecting my family, but he didn’t even bother taking it. The man was too damn good to us, so we made him our son’s godfather.
“Take us home, Daniel.”
“With pleasure.”
An hour later, we returned to the house where my parents were watching our son.
We barely stepped into the foyer when we were met with hostility. “Don’t you two have better things to do than interrupt us when we have this little precious baby to spoil,” my mother hissed, holding onto our boy.
I smirked, and nodded in agreement. “Well, if you insist. I plan to add another one to the family.” I swiftly bent down and lifted Yelena into my arms, taking the stairs two at a time while she laughed. We did indeed add to the family after that amazing night.
