Chapter Twenty-Five

Damon

I’ve never waited this long for something I’ve wanted in my life. If the guys weren’t with me then I would have stormed into that office and taken Sarah with me. After Ryker told us about Epson, he is getting bumped up on the kill list. I got another text today that they were done waiting. I’ve got a target on my back now, but I always do in this line of work.

If Sarah doesn’t know how dedicated we are to her, then killing Epson should be show enough. Maybe by then, she will want to take part in the killing. Even though Sawyer has shown me everything about Brynne Thornton, I still wonder what happened to Sarah during the years I was gone.

“How did it go with Connor?” I ask Matteo.

“You didn’t tell me he had a whole ass family,” he grumbles.

“Was there any problems?” Sawyer asks.

“No, thankfully the kids listened and so did the wife,” Matteo explains.

“So how did you do it?” Ryker asks. We all look toward him and smile. He never was interested in the killings until recently. I’ve noticed his caged personality slowly coming out. He is going to fit right in with us .

“I stabbed him,” Matteo pauses. “Multiple times,” he laughs. Ryker sighs and Sawyer watches him from the

rearview mirror.

“Are you itching to kill Ryker?” Sawyer asks.

Ryker shrugs. “I want in on Epson.”

“We all are finishing that prick off,” I say. The front door to the office opens, but it's another colleague. I recognize him from Alchemy on Friday. After watching Epson all over Sarah that night, I can't stop dreaming about killing him. Sawyer nudges me and nods his head toward the door. She walks out with Epson on her tracks. She looks annoyed and I wish we could walk up those steps and beat the shit out of him right now.

“You ready?” I ask everyone.

“Let's go,” Matteo says excitedly.

Sawyer watches Sarah dismiss Epson multiple times before he finally gives up and goes to his car. We should have taken two cars so we could deal with him tonight too. Her car pulls out of the parking lot and Sawyer is on her trail. He makes sure to stay two car lengths behind her.

She turns on her road and we slow down even more. There are only a few houses on her road and I don’t want her to notice us. Sawyer drives by her driveway as she pulls in. We get to the end of the road and turn around. We turn the lights off and park down the road.

“How long do we wait?” Ryker asks.

“Sawyer has to check out the security on the house

first,” I explain. He pulls out his laptop and gets started. It may take a while, but we have all night.

“I think we were right when it came to Clara Baker. This has her written all over it,” Sawyer types away.

“Are you going to be able to get in?” I ask.

Sawyer stops typing and looks at me. “Do you not know me at all?” He presses one more button. “We’re in, but I don’t know if Clara is going to be alerted that someone hacked into the system.”

“We will have to take our chances.”

“Are we going to take her back to the motel?” Matteo

asks.

“No,” I say plainly.

“Okay, then what's the plan? Are we just going to walk into her house and say, hey Sarah we're here to protect you, but we have to hold you captive are you alright with that?” Ryker taunts.

“We give her the benefit of the doubt, but if she gets

feisty then we will have to keep her here. I’m not leaving this place without her,” I look out the window toward her house.

“Are we waiting until she is asleep?” Matteo asks.

“No, we shouldn’t risk it. We need to get in before they realize I got into their system.” Sawyer grabs his phone and pulls up his software. “I can use this to control everything, but it takes me longer to get back in if they kick us out,” he explains.

“Why don’t you bring the laptop then?” Ryker asks. “I will once we get inside and figure out how she reacts. For now, this will suffice,” Sawyer shrugs. As I leave the car and walk toward the house, I can't control my body. It’s as if my body knows the missing piece I've been searching for is here and it's done waiting. The guys follow and we make the trek up her long driveway. It's lined with tall hedges all the way down until her front yard comes into view .

There's one willow tree in the front yard surrounded by fallen leaves. Her house is massive and something straight out of a horror movie.

“Jesus, it looks like my grandparent's old house,” Matteo whispers.

“I wonder if she chose this house or if it was given to her. With a doctor's salary you’d think she would splurge,” Ryker says.

“Maybe she does, but she keeps it hidden,” Sawyer

smirks.

“Only one way to find out. Let's get our asses inside

before we get spotted,” I pull my reaper mask over my face and the guys do the same. We walk up to the garage and scale the perimeter of the house.

“Please tell me I don’t have to climb a whole story to climb through a window again,” Matteo complains. Ryker wiggles his key-picking tools and smiles. We make it to the garage door and let Ryker do his thing. He turns the tools all different ways until it clicks, and he turns the knob.

“We’re in,” he says as he pushes the door open. We

walk slowly toward the house door and listen to see if we hear her. She could already know we are here and be waiting for us.

I open the door and take one step inside before I spot her. She stands in a readying stance with a shotgun tucked in her shoulder. “You picked the wrong fucking house asshole,” she pulls the trigger.

“Duck,” I yell to everyone. Then the shot goes off just above my head. I waste no time in rushing her. I don’t look back to see if the guys are okay. I need to detain her before she kills one of us. We’re here to help her and I’m not leaving until she realizes that.
