Chapter 29 #2
“I’m in love with you, Sorrow. I loved you as a boy, and I love you as a man.
The truth is, I don’t know how not to love you, and lord knows I’ve tried over the years.
You’re in my bones, Sorrow. My heart, my soul, every breath in my body is all yours.
Take them all because I don’t want them if I can’t have you.
I’m the man I am today because you are the woman you are.
And I’m standing here in front of you, knowing it’s not enough.
You deserve someone who’s twice the man I’ll ever be, but I’m selfish enough to keep you anyway.
And I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure you don’t regret me. ”
“How could I ever regret you?”
I don’t answer that. If I get my way, it’s not something she’ll ever have to worry about. Instead, I circle back to the first thing she asked.
“I want you because you’re sweet, and you’re kind.
You’re sexy as fucking sin, and when you walk into a room, it’s like getting hit with sunshine.
I love your smile, the way you snort when you laugh, and the fact that you’re the only person on the planet who doesn’t have a favorite side of the bed.
I love you despite the fact that you eat pineapple on your pizza like a heathen and think coffee has magical healing properties.
But most of all, I love that your heart is big enough and deep enough to love me right back, despite what we did to you—what I did to you. ”
I pull over and park the car, but I don’t get out. Instead, I turn off the engine, unfasten my belt so I can lean over, and slide my hand into her hair, tugging her closer.
“I want to marry you. I want to have babies with you. I want to build a life with you, and when it’s time for us to leave this world, I want to do it hand in hand, together like we’ll do anything else.”
“Together,” she whispers against my lips, smiling even though tears stream down her face.
“Yeah, baby, together.”
I kiss her like we have nowhere else on the planet to be. I couldn’t give a fuck if an asteroid hits Tempest. Nothing in the world could tear me away from her.
“I love you and I’m sorry that all came across as some needy bullshit, but I just had to know,” she tells me when she pulls back.
“I get it. I’m not mad. Not even a little.”
“Good, because I didn’t want to have to admit that the main reason I’m with you is that you have a huge dick,” she deadpans.
I crack up with laughter, burying my face against her shoulder. “I knew it. My feelings should be hurt.”
“But they’re not.”
“Hard to feel hurt when your girlfriend tells you she loves your big dick.”
Now it’s her turn to laugh. She covers her mouth with her hands when she snorts before glaring at me.
“I’m glad your poor feelings weren’t hurt. Not sure I can say the same for my cervix.”
“You want me to fuck you in the front seat for all our friends to see? Because that’s what’s going to happen if you keep talking about my dick.”
She blushes, but she doesn’t say no. Hell, the flush of her cheeks makes me wonder if she has an untapped voyeurism kink. And now my dick is hard enough to punch through steel.
“You’re killing me,” I groan, moving in for another kiss, my hand sliding up the inside of her thigh.
The sound of a fist thumping on the window behind me makes me sigh. Sorrow looks over my shoulder and grins.
“It’s Katy, isn’t it?”
“How did you know?”
“The cockblock queen strikes again. I swear, one day I’ll get my revenge.”
“Oh, you’re gonna cockblock her back when she’s getting hot and heavy with her future man?”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” I groan as I undo Sorrow’s belt. “Katy’s going to remain a virgin forever.”
I open the door and climb out, closing it again on the sound of Sorrow’s laughter.
“Do I even want to know what she’s laughing about?” Katy questions.
“Probably not.”
“Figures.”
I jog around and help Sorrow out of the car before leading her up toward Matilda and Aiden’s house.
“No, don’t mind me, I’ll walk myself up,” Katy calls out from behind us. I stop and turn around to wait for her. Sorrow—my arm around her— turns with me.
“You didn’t have to wait for us. You could have gone on in with Marcus.”
“I would have, but he’s helping someone to their car.”
“What? Who?”
“I don’t know. Didn’t recognize them, but then I didn’t see them before Marcus bumped into them and knocked them flying.”
“They okay?”
“I think so. Scraped hands and knees. I believe I heard her mumble something about having a first aid kit in her car.”
“Her?” Sorrow asks with a wiggle of her brows.
“Yeah, her. But don’t read anything into it. Marcus has a type.”
“Really? I haven’t seen him with anyone before.”
“He has a type, but he’s also picky.” Katy chuckles.
“You seem to know an awful lot about his dating life,” I grunt. I think the guys need to watch what they say in front of her.
“I’m nosy, and you guys are not exactly shy about sharing. Well, unless it’s serious. Then you clam up tighter than a—”
“Thanks, Katy. We got it.” I roll my eyes at her, though she’s not exactly wrong.
“So Marcus’s type?” Sorrow probes as we reach the door.
“Blonde, stacked, legs up to her armpits.” Katy sighs.
“He also likes them smart,” I add.
“And submissive,” Katy throws out as she disappears inside.
“Well, that was more than I was expecting.” Sorrow chuckles. “I’m not sure how many nerdy supermodels, who like to be bossed around, Marcus is going to find in Tempest, though.”
“And herein lies the problem.”
We make it inside, instantly being swallowed up in the chaos and noise. Zoe spots us right away and runs over, first throwing herself at me before reaching over and giving Sorrow a hug.
“We have pizza. You want me to get you some?” she offers.
“Sure, that would be great,” Sorrow replies before I can decline.
“You did that on purpose,” I bend down and murmur in her ear.
She smiles up at me innocently as Zoe runs over with a couple of large slices of pizza in her hands. Sure enough, it’s covered in pineapple.
“Here you go, Banner.” She hands me a slice first. I look at it and fight back my grimace. “This one is for you, Sorrow.”
Sorrow bends down and grabs it from her before taking a big bite, her eyes fluttering closed. “Hmm…so good. Pineapple on pizza is the best. Don’t you think, Banner?”
I glare at the witch before taking a tiny bite, fighting to hide my reaction. “Yum.”
“I know, right?” Zoe runs off as I shake my head. “You think you know a girl, then she throws you under a bus…”
She laughs at me. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.”
“Thank God for that. Because I’ll be dammed if I can choke down a full slice when it’s been contaminated with the devil’s favorite fruit.”
She laughs again before taking another bite. “Love is putting things in your mouth you probably otherwise wouldn’t.”
I open my mouth before closing it again with a muttered curse. I really do like blowjobs. I lean over and take a bite of the pineapple monstrosity, praying I don’t throw it back up.
“How’s that gag reflex, babe?”
I glare at her, but she grins, pressing herself against me before lifting up on her tiptoes and kissing my jaw.
“You’re doing so well. Just a little more.”
I swallow the mouthful of food with a wince, my hand sliding around to grab her ass and pull her tighter against me so she can feel my cock getting hard.
“You want to get fucked, baby? Is that what this is? Do you need me to slide my hand up under your skirt and slip my fingers inside you? I bet I’d find you dripping.”
She shudders, making me grin as I lean down and kiss her. I’ve just made up my mind to drag the little tease off to one of the bathrooms. My phone beeps, along with Sorrow’s and a couple of others around the room.
I pull out my cell and stare down at the screen before looking into Sorrow’s eyes. “Jury’s back.”
“That was quick.” She lets out a wobbly sigh.
“It’s almost over now. No matter what happens, we can get through anything together.”
She nods, her hands shaking as I grab them. “Together.”
