Questions
Pallas and Perses knew better
than to argue with Asteria or me
when we decided on something together.
They knew our bond to each other
meant more to us than any other.
Immediately, they summoned
Astraeus’s clouds, and together,
we left to return to the palace of Coeus.
My heart pounded as I considered
all the places my sister could go.
I came up empty. Metis was secretive
and only close to Leto.
‘Perhaps,’ Asteria said reading my mind,
‘Leto has the answers we are looking for.’
A surge of bitter envy ran through my veins.
Metis had always been closest to Leto
in a way that made me ache.
And perhaps Asteria was right.
Leto might have some of the answers
that we so desperately needed.
But if this was true then why had her sister
allowed Metis to leave at all?
I knew there was much more to this.
A child who grows up as a secret
eventually chooses the only way possible
for her. She becomes secretive herself.
Or she disappears.
