Chapter 4 The Truth
Ji Chengzhou looked at the three of us like we were idiots.
He pointed to the line that read “does not support parent-child relationship” and said calmly, “I really am not your biological son. The Zhao and Ji families gave birth in the same hospital that year. The babies were switched. I should have been a Zhao.”
Before we could process it, he announced he’d return everything—shares in Ji Group, the CEO position—and move out.
I was furious.
Even if he wasn’t blood, he’d lived with us twenty-five years. No attachment at all? Just walk away?
I chased after him and finally snapped, “Ji Chengzhou, have you never seen me as your real brother?”
He looked at me with emotions I couldn’t decipher. “Ji Xinglan, you’re too slow. I stopped treating you like a brother a long time ago.”
I almost cried from anger. I knew it—he thought I was stupid, that’s why he never called me Older Brother.
He wasn’t like this when we were little.
He’d toddle after me on short legs, calling sweetly, “Older Brother.”
In his baby voice he’d say, “Older Brother, promise you’ll always stay with me.”
“When I grow up I’ll earn lots of money to support Older Brother.”
How did Ji Chengzhou turn into this cold, heartless man?
He stared at me seriously. “Why are you so angry that I’m leaving?”
What kind of question was that?
“You’re my younger brother. Even if we’re not blood, you’ll always be my younger brother.”
His face darkened instantly. Eyes red, he spat, “Idiot.”
He wasn’t even pretending anymore—just openly mocking my intelligence.
“Get lost.”
I stormed back inside alone.
