Chapter 16 Running Home
Early the next morning, while Ji Chengzhou was in the study handling work, I snuck out like a coward, clutching my sore ass.
As soon as I got home, I found the whole family sitting in the living room, faces grim.
It wasn’t even the weekend. Why was everyone up so early? Even Ji Zhishu, who stayed up late every night, was awake.
I asked curiously, “What’s wrong with everyone?”
Dad took a drag on his cigarette. “A few board members just came by. They want Ji Chengzhou back at the company fast, or it’ll go bankrupt.”
Guilt hit me as I remembered last week—upset with Ji Chengzhou, I’d approved everything myself.
I’d tanked three partnerships and killed five projects.
My ass hurt even more.
“I talked to Ji Chengzhou a few days ago. He still doesn’t want to come back,” Dad said, exhaling two smoke rings sadly.
“Bankrupt? Honey, will our family really go bankrupt? If we go bankrupt, my beauty, my social grace, my good character and soul—everything will be ruined.”
Mom started crying dramatically.
Ji Zhishu hurried to comfort her. “Mom, don’t worry. I’ve been writing novels lately and made a little progress. Even if we go bankrupt, I can support you. You won’t go hungry.”
Mom looked at him hopefully. “My son’s a writer now—that’s amazing. Tell Mom, how much does your novel make a month?”
“Uh… about 100 yuan.”
I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. Enough to not starve—three yuan a day, one steamed bun per meal for the whole family.
Just as I was about to tease him, the housekeeper called from the door. “Young Master Chengzhou, why are you back so suddenly?”
My eyes widened. I clutched my ass.
Why did he follow me here?
