Chapter 18 Old Secrets

After moving in together, I finally realized Ji Chengzhou was a total liar.

He still controlled me like I was his grandson.

But Mom and Dad both took his side. Who was the real biological son here?

After quitting the company, I went back to my old job—photography and shadowing shoots.

That day’s shoot was near our old high school. I remembered Ji Chengzhou used to love the beef patties from a shop near campus.

Since he cooked delicious meals for me every night after work, I bought two patties and decided to pick him up from the company.

I never expected to run into the campus beauty from high school, Xu Man, at the patty shop.

“Xu Man, is this your child? So cute.”

She was holding hands with a little boy who looked about three parts like her.

Xu Man nodded. “He’s three already.”

Old classmates catching up, we started talking about high school.

It’s a little embarrassing, but back then Xu Man brought me water a few times during basketball games. I narcissistically thought she liked me. Turns out she has a kid this big already.

Good thing Ji Chengzhou was strict and didn’t let me date early, so I never made a move. Otherwise it would’ve been mortifying now.

Xu Man glanced at the patties in my hand. “Are those for Ji Chengzhou? Are you two together?”

My eyes went wide. How did she guess?

Seeing my shock, Xu Man laughed. “You probably didn’t know—back in high school, a lot of girls had crushes on you. I did too. But every girl who liked you got warned off by the top student. When I saw the news that you two aren’t actually blood brothers, I finally put it together.”

“Had crushes on me?” I couldn’t believe it.

In high school, didn’t everyone like the smart kids? How could anyone crush on a slacker like me?

“You didn’t know everyone called you the little prince back then? So many girls liked your face.”

I had no idea. I never got a single love letter in school and thought no girl would ever notice a failing student like me.

Turns out it was all Ji Chengzhou messing things up.

Fuming, I stormed to the company to settle the score.

“Ji Chengzhou.”

I kicked open his office door and grabbed his collar, demanding to know what he’d done.

Ji Chengzhou pulled me onto his lap and declared shamelessly, “I like you. Of course I had to chase away all the rivals.”

I stared at him in disbelief. “You were insane. Back then we were still brothers.”

The truth about the hospital mix-up between the Ji and Zhao families hadn’t come out yet.

Ji Chengzhou buried his face in my shoulder. “Good thing we’re not blood-related.”

Looking at Ji Chengzhou smiling with such relief, I silently cursed, “Damn pervert.”

Whatever. Pervert it is. Who told him to like me this much? We’ll make do.
