Chapter 30 Ash
Ash
I storm toward Rowan’s office after I park up at the lodge’s parking lot, knowing the prick is hiding in there. Rotten coward. He can’t even tell her in person, and I swear he is dead to me if we lose Daisy because of this.
Just when we were winning her over, he goes and sends us a fucking text message. I’m more than pissed. I’m incensed. Murderous.
I did warn him; he only brought this upon himself.
Briar is hot on my heels. “Ash, cool down.”
“No. I am going to punch that smug prick in the face. Anything to knock some sense into him. What was he thinking? Having sex with her like that only to break her heart? No… He needs to learn his lesson.”
My voice echoes across the parking lot. A few people glance our way, but I’m beyond the point of caring.
Yeah, that’s right. The normally shy, placid Alpha has some muscle, and he’s throwing his weight around.
We find the building that hosts Rowan’s office, storming up the stairs. When we arrive, I barge into the room, my eyes smeared red the instant they land on my brother in his fine, smart suit.
Not even a hair out of place.
I hate him…
“You!” I shoot across the room, yanking the Alpha out of his ergonomic leather chair. I push him up against the wall, gripping him by the shirt. “You fucker! What is wrong with you?”
Rowan tenses, but he doesn’t even bother fighting me. He merely lets me ruffle him up. Good. Because I really plan on teaching him a lesson.
“Ash! Let him go. We can discuss this civilly,” Briar says.
I growl. “What is there to discuss? Daisy is leaving! We… failed… all because of this asshole!”
Rowan hangs his head, muttering something under his breath. I lean closer. “What? Speak up!”
The Alpha looks up, and I find the hard ice in his eyes. I’m sure the room temperature drops in that moment.
His eyes drift toward the corner of the room, where a dark figure lounges on the plush leather couch. He’s bathed in shadow, but I would recognize that self-assured way with which he sits in any century…
My heart pounds as my hands loosen on Rowan’s shirt. I drop him, and he lands back on his feet, brushing himself off. Then he fixes his tie, smoothing out his shirt as he comes to stand beside me.
Somehow, Rowan isn’t the worst Alpha in the room for once.
Briar comes to my other side, and now the three of us form a united front. Our growls echo in the room as we stare at the monster who left us.
Who left our mother…
Our sweet, sweet mother. The one who slowly succumbed over the years until she became nothing but dust on the wind.
My muscles bulge as I grind my teeth.
Finally, the Alpha rises to his feet, stepping out of the shadows, and the smile on his face says it all…
He has no remorse.
He wants something. But he won’t get it.
Because he’s dead to me. He has been for many years now.
“Hello, sons,” he croons next, grinning like the devil at the three of us.
My fists clench as I picture the face of our laughing mother. Of how she used to be before…
I swallow, balling my fists. Then I whisper, “You have a nerve showing your face here.”
