Liv's POV

Ryder turned towards me and his facial expression softened. He understood that he had lost control a while ago.

I clasped my hands together and swung my legs freely from the edge of the bed. My legs weren't long enough to touch the ground from the edge. It wasn't as though I was too short, but the bed was massive.

Ryder stood up and ran his hand across his hair. I figured he was racking his head about something. He seemed rather unease

"Well, get some rest," Ryder smiled at me.

"Wait," I stopped him before he left. "Tell me more about it," I pressured him even though I knew the reason he was unease was literally what I was asking him about.

Ryder looked at me and puffed out a sigh. Walking back to where I was, he sat on the bed. "It all started when we got our wolf, several years ago," Ryder narrated, his eyes glued forward and not at me.

"Since we are triplets, it's normal for us to get the same type of wolf. Callum and I got a black wolf," he explained and then he pressed his lips together "Max, got a mixed color, which is very much unusual. We are triplets, we were supposed to get the same type of wolves" he paused for a while with his eyes still glued in front of him

"Dad had always warned us about it. He told us separately that the mixed wolf signified different blood. That it'll cause problems in the future,"

"Can it be fixed?" I asked. I was starting to understand Max's unnatural anger outbursts. It was his wolf messing things up.

Ryder shook his head. "It's permanent. Once you're fused with your wolf, it's for life," Ryder said.

I looked at the dried blood on my hand. It served as a reminder of how awry it could have been if Max had gone too far.

"You know the saying. If I can't have you, no one else can," He asked, turning to look at me with softened eyes of concern. "He might hurt you Liv. He's going to do something crazy if he can't even stand the sight of Callum and I being with you,"

I took a deep breath, looking in front of me. The last thing I wanted was for me to be tied to someone and Ryder had just said Max might be overly possessive of me, even hurt me if I be with someone else.

How was I supposed to feel about that?

I turned to Ryder, still trying to understand things better "Then why didn't he attack me since, why now?"

"His wolf wasn't attracted to you because you hadn't gotten your wolf yet, but now you have it, he is going to try and..." Ryder trailed off

"Do something insane until he has me all to himself" I completed with a little bit of tension building up in my chest.

"You see Liv, shortly after we got our wolves; we used to get in a lot of trouble in school because Max suddenly lost control of his wolf. He used to fight with the seniors all the time," Ryder scoffed, shaking his head. "He just had to be himself"

"What happened to him?"

Ryder huffed, looking at me. "You mean what happened to them? He massacred them. Dad's representative had to come to the school to apologize because it had been a big issue," Ryder said.

I held my legs up with my hands.

"When it comes to a fight. I and Callum are the only ones that can hold him back, he is really strong. Callum always had trouble keeping him at bay, but I was the only one that could calm him down so that's why I always went around with him," Ryder said.

"Then I am right to be afraid of him then?" I concluded even though that was a question.

Ryder rested his hands on the bed as support, then he turned to me. "Don't get me wrong. Max is a normal person. It's his wolf that's the problem, it always gets in the way of things," Ryder explained. "Max cares about you, just like the rest of us," he explained.

I sighed, shaking my head "Heard that line so many times that I don't believe it

"You need to know that we are in love with you Liv" he spoke with a lot of desperation in voice like he wanted me to believe him so bad.

"It's just hard to get over everything I went through Ryder. If you guys can acknowledge that and give me time to adjust, then I'd be fine"

Ryder sighed. "What can I do to prove we want to take care of you? We brought you in front of Mother; we presented you to Father, to show we are serious about this Liv,"

"That's the point. You are so busy trying to get me to be with you guys that you don't care about giving me the space to heal from all you did to me"

Ryder remained silent. From his blank stare, it was certain he didn't know what to say. He wanted me. At least I was certain of that, more than I was with Callum and Max. I was sure he cared for me and if there was anyone of them I'd give a chance at forgiving, it'd be him.

He was calmer than his two brothers, which surprised me. Never in a hundred years had I seen myself maintaining a conversation like this with Ryder.

Ryder fell back on the bed and resigned himself. "Okay, I give up. You win, I have—"

"We have," I interrupted him and looked down at him. "Your brothers were all in this," I reminded him.

Ryder sat up and drew closer to me and for some reason, I wasn't scared. In the little time I had spent with him, I was starting to understand him better.

"Okay, we were all in it. Even Callum, we maltreated you all this time so I perfectly understand why you would hate us. The Lycan gods played a wicked game with our fate and now we are mates," Ryder smiled. "The irony of life"

He cupped my chin, peering his eyes into mine "I'm sorry Liv. Trust me, if there were ways to go back in time, I would have stopped my brothers and myself," His tone came soft that I felt the walls in my heart slowly melting away and all the pain I felt being crushed.

I found myself lost in his green eyes. I could see the sincerity in them and all the hatred I once had for him all started melting away.

I took a deep sharp breath and then I spoke even though I was now heavily distracted by his closeness "But, why did you do all that? Why did you make my life hell?"

Ryder's eyes fell. He clasped his hands and parted his lips, but then he closed them. I guessed he was contemplating giving me a good reply.

"Don't lie to me," I told him.

Ryder closed his eyes and pursed his lips. "I—I don't know," He shook his head. "Maybe it was to feel among with my brothers or I just wanted your attention" he added, not quite sure of his answer

"Liv," Ryder called my name. I suddenly looked at him, responding to his call before I had anything to think about.

His face was close to mine. His eyes were searching into mine, the same as mine to his. I never knew he had such beautiful eyes up close. I could see worlds in them; I could see a lot of things he didn't want to tell me.

Ryder cupped my chin, and his hands were comfortably warm. "I'm sorry, Liv," he said softly.

My mind suddenly went blank, as his lips connected with mine.
