Ryder's POV

Bang, bang, bang.

The sound was repetitive every five seconds. It filled the abandoned hall that had turned into our new prison.

Bang. Bang.

Max growled as he hit the door with his shoulder. There was no budging at all, no cracks or any sign that showed that the door was going to give way.

"Come on Ryder, come here and help me," Max called out to me. His face was covered in sweat as he stood at the door. I turned to Callum for support, but he was far away, examining walls which I found strange.

"Callum, come let's find a way to get out of here," I called out to him.

He didn't answer me, as he continued touching the walls and muttering words I couldn't hear. He looked up at the ceilings and touched the walls.

"Come help me here," Max hissed impatiently. He looked very worried.

"The door won't budge, can't you see that?" I went to sit down.

Max relaxed his muscles and looked at me. "Why do you say so? With our combined effort, we can be able to take down this door," he suggested.

"The door won't shake, Max. It's made of mountain ash wood, which we are weak to. There's no way I'm wasting my time with that door," I said as I held my knees.

I kept wondering why my mother would have locked us inside the building. At the back of my mind, I knew she wanted to harm Liv, but I shook that thought away. I didn't believe that my mother would stoop so low.

I looked up at the ceiling, but it was very high. There was no possible way for us to climb since the walls were too steep.

"Fuck!" Max roared as he banged the door with his shoulder. The door didn't even move or show any signs of breaking.

"No matter what you do, we won't be able to get out of here, let's chill and wait for them to release then, we can make hell break loose," I said to Max.

Max growled at me. "We will get out of here if you contribute to helping us get out of here," he said to me.

"Hey Ryder, why do you think Mother would lock us here?" Callum who was behind me, called out,

It was a reasonable question I had been avoiding.

"I don't know, it beats me too," I replied.

Max banged his fist against the door. "She wants to fucking hurt Liv," he shook his head.

I rejected it. "No, mother won't stoop so low. She isn't the best mother we have, but I don't believe that she would harm Liv just for us to change our decision," I replied.

"You are very wrong Ryder," Callum replied.

"Even Max gets it. She wants to harm Liv," he said to me.

I stood up and frowned my face.

"Impossible, you are—"

"Didn't you hear what she said? She said she is willing to do anything to make us not be with Liv!" Max interrupted.

"You have known this woman for twenty years and what she made us go through. Remember what happened to that maid who made that fatal cooking mistake and had her hands cut? Remember what happened to guards that failed to protect her, they were fucking executed on her orders!" Callum shouted at me.

Cold sweat broke around my body. My heart was beating fast as I started to panic. It was twice, no matter how long I wanted to reject it, my mother was capable of killing Liv, and she didn't need to do it with her own hands, she could get someone to do it which was more convenient.

"We are locked here, Liv is out there alone. Who would protect her now that we have brought her to the Mansion?" Callum demanded.

"So if you love our mate, you'd find a way to help us out of this room, instead of lazing around," Max grunted and returned to the door.

I joined Ryder at the door and we hit the door with all our might, hoping that it would break down from our contributed effort.

"Gah—why won't it break down?" I gritted in frustration.

"You are all useless, you can't use your heads," Callum tutted behind us.

"If you helped and we pushed this door, we might be able to get out of here," Max responded without turning back. He continued hitting the door with all his might relentlessly.

"It is just like Ryder said. This whole hall is made of mountain ash that is designed to keep wolves out, and us in if we were attacked by our enemies. Banging on the door wont get us out of here, " Callum said casually. He mostly talked casually if he had an option or idea.

I sagged my shoulders and turned towards him. "Since you are talking like this, it seems you have another idea of us getting out of here,.

"So how do we get out?" Max spoke impatiently.

Callum looked up and we followed his eyes. High up in the ceiling, moonlight slipped from an opening.

I looked down at Callum and then back up before I turned to Max.

"That's too high," I shook my head.

"I can't climb that high, no possible way for us to reach there," Max rejected too.

"But that's the only way for us out of here. If you don't want to lose your mate, Max, you would be the first to climb up," he suggested.

"He can't fucking climb the walls, they are fucking steep and high!" I yelled at Callum. His plan was crazy, I might be a werewolf but a fall was going to hurt very bad.

Callum snickered, looking at us as he brought his hands from his pocket.

"Then why the fuck are you a werewolf Ryder?" He asked.
