Liv's POV
It didn't take long before duty called and frank had to leave to greet some of other pack Alphas alongside his father
I felt vulnerable because I knew with Frank not being by my side I was more susceptible to Luna Rebecca. She was waiting to feast on an opportunity like this since I had noticed her staring at me but the only reason she hadn't come close was because of Frank.
After Frank left, just like I had expected luna Rebecca didn't want to miss such an opportunity.
As soon as she noticed Frank wasn't by my side anymore, she excused herself and strode towards me.
I still had that fear in my heart but I needed to act brave because if she considered me weak, it would be much easier for her to use whatever she had at hand to her own advantage.
I shifted away from her, turning my gaze and concentrating on the people in the hall.
Luna Rebecca was quite smart for a woman and I expected her to understand I wasn't interested in talking to her.
She scooted closer to me, placing her hand on my chin and I shrieked at her advances.
"Liv, I just lost my husband. He was your alpha and the least you can do is not to treat me this way"
I stared at her with a thousand questions racking through my head. She wasn't just dangerous but also unbelievable.
It was a certainty we both knew she killed the Alpha. Why did she have to pretend.
"My condolences" I voiced out with fear laced in my voice. I desperately wanted to call her a liar and a fraud, but the apprehension inside of me prevented me from doing so.
Also, she despised me so much that she wouldn't even think of talking to me properly. I had no status or power, nevertheless wealth.
Probably she had acted so much drama without realising whom she should do it with.
She grabbed my arm softly, smiling at me "You're angry at me right? let's forget about everything that has happened and start afresh" she stated, enveloping me in a hug and I sucked air through my teeth.
What the hell was she doing.
It went from a soft hug until I got a sharp pain and I knew instantly what she was doing.
"Please let go of me, you're hurting me!" I pleaded, wincing in pain as she dug her fingernails into my arms.
"Did you think you can win against me? you left the dark moon pack right? Why are you back?" she queried, holding onto me tightly as I tried to disentagle my body from her tight grip.
"I came to pay my last respect to Alpha Arthur; and not because of you" I responded, tears gathering in my eyes as I bit hard on my tongue to distract myself from the pain
"Do you expect me to believe your words when I know exactly why you came back" she replied, instantly letting go of me and I staggered back.
"What?"
"I know girls like you and do you know what I call them? cheap!"
"I don't understand what you are talking about?" I couldn't control it anymore as tears rolled down my cheeks with my lip quivering.
"You cheap omega. You went with Frank to his pack. You found out he wasn't enough for you and now you came back for my sons. This is your final warning Liv. Stay away from them otherwise you won't like the consequences" she warned, pointing a finger at me but I was too horrified to say anything.
Was she the woman Callum promised to protect me from? I didn't even trust my own self. How could I trust them with my safety?
At that moment I thought about my life as an omega, it was horrible but if I decided not to listen to her, my life would end right before my very own eyes and there was nothing I'd be able to do about it.
"Please trust me when I say I don't want to be close to your sons. I'm not interested in them" I divulged in a low voice and she let out a soft chuckle.
"Trust an omega. You want me to trust you?" she cursed out, staring at me with a deadly gaze that instilled fear inside of me.
"I came with Frank and I'm sure you saw us together" I explianed once more with a shaky voice.
"I don't care but the fact you came back means you want something" she snapped, leaning closer to me and I shut my eyes closed expecting her to hurt me but that didn't happen "You better not ruin this for me" she warned, her voice filled with determination.
Just when I thought I would be trapped within her wrath and hatred all night, a tall powerful figure stepped between us. With shakiness, I looked up and never had I been so happy to see Max
"Come with me" he instructed without sparing a single glance at his Mother.
On a normal day, I would have proven stubborn and chosen not to go with Max but I had to get away from Luna Rebecca.
I glanced at her and I could see the dangerous dimness in her eyes but I didn't care.
Without thinking, I held Max's hand and let him lead me away. That was something she didn't want. She had just threatened me to stay away from her sons but there I was, holding the hand of one of them in front of her.
It felt good to give her the impression she couldn't control me, but still, I felt a little bit scared of what she might do about it.
We arrived outside the mansion and I immediately let go of his hand. The feeling of his hands on mine brought a unique spark of energy I had never felt before. It felt too good, almost unhealthy. I felt it wasn't right to feel that for a guy I was trying my best to aviod
Max left my side, standing in front of me and his eyes gazing into mine with a look in his eyes I couldn't decipher
"How have you been Liv?" he asked calmly
Was this really Max? I mean ever since he found out we were mated he became a completely different version of himself. He became more temperamental, more possessive, to the point were he scared me some times.
I was fast enough to see him raise his hands to cup my cheek. I stepped back immediately, slightly pushing his hand away. I was trying my best to make it harder for them to have me in their grasp and him touching me might only make things harder for me.
Oh yes, and back to the question he asked.
"I've been Living my best life Max. Going to Darksky had to be the best decision I made in my life" I answered confidently, trying my best not to peel my eyes from his intense gaze.
He grabbed my hand slowly by my side and even though I wanted to yank it away, I couldn't bring myself to do it. It felt like I had been trapped in the moment and all my world crashing down just by the feeling of his skin against mine
"I'll admit to all my mistakes Liv. I'm aware of how extreme I've been towards you in the past few weeks but what can I do about it Liv? I can barely control my feelings when you're around me" he voiced out, gazing into my eyes and for the first time in so many years of knowing Max I could see solemnity in his eyes.
"Max" I called out slowly, finding it hard to speak. He stepped closer to me and placed his finger on my lip.
"I've given you so many impressions of myself and I know you have a lot on your mind you want to say, but now I'll speak and please listen" he took a deep breath
"I'm sorry Liv" he apologized and I began to wonder what he was sorry for.
Was it for bullying me? or for being excessively strict with me? or for the fact he couldn't make me his?
The cold air blew against my skin as I enjoyed it's warmth.
Max stared at me without saying a word and I knew that despite his lips weren't moving, his eyes were doing the talking.
"You are amazingly beautiful" he complimented, tucking the strands of my hair behind and I became caught up in the moment as I let my guard down.
I began to feel the intense heat of the moment as Max stepped behind me.
I looked at him and watched him smiled at me.
"There's something I want to show you" max pronounced.
I looked around in confusion"What's that?"
I'd admit I didn't trust Max enough to follow him blindly, espeically with the kind of wolf he had, but that night I felt so safe around him. I didn't mind at all
"Come with me" He pulled my hand, leading me away from the entrance of the ball. It took me a while to realize he was taking me to the woods.
There was nothing spectacular about that until we got to a spot.
"Wow" That was the first word that escaped my lips
The moonlight peeked through the branches, casting ethereal shadows on the forest floor. The air was filled with a gentle breeze, carrying the scent of damp earth and the sweet fragrance of blooming flowers.
I could hear the soft rustling of leaves and the distant hoot of an owl. Fireflies danced among the trees, their tiny lights creating a magical ambiance. It was one word, beautiful.
"Wow Max, this is beautiful" I voiced out.
"This used to be my favourite place when I was a kid" he chirmed in.
"You mean before you started bullying me?" I playfully rolled my eyes at him
"Liv" he called out "Look at me" he said softly, cupping my chin and not missing a chance to gaze into my eyes with so much sobriety.
He continued "I don't hate you Liv. I want you to know that" he let out. For the first time staring at Max eyes didn't bring fear, but instead it brought stillness, peace and want.
He gazed at me in dark silence, his eyes filled with longing as he leaned forward. He brought his lips to mine, causing my heartbeat to accelerate. It was a short kiss which he broke, leaving me with wanting and desperation.
It felt as though he was testing me and I was unable to resist since I was slowly gaining passion.
He pulled his head back and I gazed up at him.
I bit my lower lips and when I couldn't hold myself anymore, I leaned over to kiss him, returning it more passionately as he drove my body to new heights of pleasure
Max deepened the kiss, nibbling on my lower lip as I yielded to the warmness of his body.
He gave my waist a squeeze as his breathing changed alongside my pulse and respiration which were racing.
His lips left mine, trailing hot kisses down to my arms and I felt his hand fumbling with the zip of my dress.
The overwhelming pleasure made me close my eyes. My body had long submitted. I didn't care what he did to me, I just wanted him to touch me.
My breathing had quickened in pleasure, but it got to a point were it seized. It felt like someone choked me. It wasn't Max as he was still kissing my body.
I instantly felt weak but pushed the feeling aside as I tried to concentrate, filling my head with the pleasure from Max's touch alone.
I tried to concentrate but the feeling became worse. I wrapped my hand around my neck as my body swingled sideways, still holding onto max tightly.
"Help" I called out, my words, coming out in a whisper as I tried my best not to pass out. Tears gathered up in my eyes. I found it closing and despite how hard I tried, I couldn't fight for long.
I slumped to the floor with a loud thud as darkness consumed my vision.
