Callum's POV
Max, Ryder and I were all seated including my mother and some other very important personnels of the pack while they all talked about a way to move the pack forward
Not me though because Although i was present, my mind wandered far.
"I'm sure everyone sitting down here is aware of why this meeting has been scheduled. We have gotten more relaxed during the years and if we face any attacks, we would fall. That's why we need to increase the security of our pack"
one of the personnel said, his voice in an authoritative tone and loud enough for everyone to hear him.
"Our pack is just fine, even when Alpha Arthur was alive no adjustment was made and no one was attacked. I can assure you that the dark moon pack isn't at war with anybody" Max voiced out, his legs crossed against each other and his gaze lifted up to everyone.
"Sitting down to wait for our rival pack to attack will be an unwise decision to make and don't forget that Alpha Arthur's reign is over. We shouldn't wait until our pack is at war before we start making preparations to make the pack stronger" Luna Rebecca chipped in.
Max turned his head sideways, glancing up at her and a sly smirk creeped at the corner of his lips.
He was quite aware of what our mum was trying to do, just like what she did to our father.
she wasn't going to leave any stone unturned to miscommunicate with the personnels and make them think the newly appointed Alphas couldn't make decisions on their own.
They all feared her and I wouldn't be surprised if they become her new found puppets and listened to everything she says.
Anger consumed Max but it would be unwise to react to whatever she was doing because doing so meant giving her the upper hand which he didn't want to.
He covered everything up with a casual demeanor, clearing his throat and he spoke "I think you're quite right Luna Rebecca so what do you have in mind?" he asked, his gaze casted at me since I was the Lord of degree.
My opinion was really important just like all of them but I looked absent minded and when they didn't get any response from me, they continued with the conversation.
"Alpha Max, I have a suggestion" the pack personnel informed.
"Sure, go ahead" Max urged.
"In order for us to become more stronger than ever, we need to join forces with other packs but in a smart way. Even though it is by deceit but we need to have the upper hand in everything" the pack personnel revealed.
"Dark sky pack isn't a bad idea. We are aware of how strong they are especially on the battle field" Luna Rebecca chirmed in and I let out a silent sigh of frustration.
Why did she always have to involve herself in matters that didn't really concern her?
I wouldn't let her win again just like she controlled my dad and lead him closer to his grave. She was trying to do the same with us since we were her children and we were all related by blood.
"There's no way I'll let that happen. I'm aware of how powerful they are but joining forces with them isn't the best option" Max stated and she scoffed at his words.
In my abscence I would always trusted max to stand in for me. He wouldn't leave any stone unturned to make things difficult for her.
Right from childhood he had always despised her but didn't know how to show it.
"You had better not forget that you've recently become an alpha so think practically and not emotionally. You can't let your personal feelings get in the way of the future of the pack" Luna Rebecca uttered.
"I'll give you a reminder that I'm the alpha and not you so whatever I say will stand. Dark moon pack won't be joining forces with dark sky pack, that's my decision and I won't be changing it for anyone" Max snapped, his voice coming off like a volcano.
"That's where you are getting it all wrong max. You might be an alpha but you're running this pack with the help of the pack members so we should be involved in the decisions you make" Luna Rebecca retorted, trying so hard to keep her temper in check.
"I can't believe you're saying this to me. Some time ago you were about to make a decision on behalf of everyone and now you are bent on teaching me the ways of the pack" Max fired back
Ryder placed a hand on his shoulder, pressing gently on it. He turned his gaze towards Luna Rebecca as he knew who to support.
"Max is right in whatever he's saying" Ryder blurted out.
"I'm sorry to interrupt Alpha Ryder but we have decided to trust Luna Rebecca's words and join forces with the dark sky pack" one of the high personnel revealed as Max blood boiled in condescending rage.
The high personnel was one of her puppets so I wasn't surprised when he supported her.
I was aware of the crimes he had committed using the dark moon pack as a disguise but once I'm able to get concrete evidence about him. I'll be willing to strip him off his rank and position, he'll be left with nothing but shame.
"And who is your alpha?" Ryder questioned as fear gripped the high personnel.
"You are but we are supporting Luna Rebecca because she has served our pack for years and we believe she knows what is right and wrong for the pack" the personnel voiced out.
Max balled his fists with anger smoldering inside of him but he knew he had to control his temper.
It wasn't the right time to react otherwise Luna Rebecca would take advantage of it.
"Alright, since everyone has accepted let's proceed with the opinions" Luna Rebecca said with a bright smile litted up on her face alongside a glint of humor in her eyes.
"It won't stand" I spoke in a deep and hoarse voice, taking everyone by surprise because they all thought I was absent minded and I wasn't going to say anything.
"Callum" she called out but I gave a deaf ear to her words.
"If we want to partner with someone, it would be another pack entirely" I said and they all looked at each other whilst talking in low whispers.
I knew mum has always been a smart woman and for her to involve the dark sky pack, it means something is surely amiss.
In my whole existence I have never seen her decide on something for the benefit of others.
She must always have something to gain from it, especially when she gets to insist a lot.
I know her antics too well just like the back of my palm.
She didn't just think about that because she cared about the pack but because she had something cooking up her sleeves and I was more than ready to crash everything down..
