Chapter 15
Silas
Have I been distant? Yeah, a little, but it’s for her own good. I can’t look at her or those marks on her wrist without wanting to snap her damn her neck. How the fuck could she think she could just leave me? Like I wouldn’t have followed her into the depths of hell and dragged her back out. Foolish girl.
I’ve also been reading her journals, the ones I assume she forgot I had. It’s mainly about sex and the fantasies she has. Some are about life and school and the upcoming ceremony, but most of it is what runs wild in her head. The newer ones, anyway. I’m working my way backward, reading the newest ones first.
I raise the binoculars and watch Ron, that piece of shit, as he walks to his car and climbs in. Then I set them down and start my car to follow him. I know he’s going home just like every other fucking day. Today is no different; I just wanted to be sure no one was with him or followed him.
I’ve already cut the wires to his security system, so that’s out of my way when I get there.
Pulling out, I follow behind him toward his house. When he pulls into the driveway, I kill the engine and climb out, glancing around to be sure no one sees me. He heads for his door, and I’m right behind him, pulling my gun and pressing it to his back. He gasps but doesn’t scream.
“Open the fucking door.” He reaches forward and opens the door as I shove him inside. I kick the door closed with my foot and push the gun into his back.
“What do you want?”
“I have questions I want answers to.”
“Not money?” he asks, sounding like he doesn’t believe me.
“I don’t need your damn money. Walk,” I order him, leading him through his own house and into his office. I motion for him to sit in his chair, and he does. As soon as he sits, he looks up at me, narrowing his eyes. He knows who I am. There’s no way he couldn’t, seeing how he’s wrapped up in things about the Kings.
“Silas Bennet?”
“You know me.”
“Of course, I know you.”
“How?” I muse as I lean my hip against his desk.
“Well, through your family, of course. You are from the area,” he replies, trying to play me. Nice fucking try.
“Do you make it a point to know everyone in the area?” I ask him. He doesn’t know what to say now. He’s confused, glancing around his office. More importantly, at his cameras. “I already cut the lines.” Now, his eyes snap back to mine.
“What can I help you with?” I smirk at him casually as if I’m not going to blow his fucking head off soon.
“You worked with my dad. I’d like to know a little more about that.”
“I don’t recall working with your dad, Silas.” Now I’m getting annoyed. I raise my gun and slam the butt into the side of his head. He reaches up as blood begins to trickle down his temple.
“Let me ask again. What business did you have with my dad?” He seems to think about his answer for a minute.
“A business transaction.”
“What for?”
“Why aren’t you asking your dad about this?”
“Because I’m here asking you,” I tell him calmly. He’s being careful with what he says, and I get it. I would be too, but now isn’t the time to piss me off. I’m already on edge from all the shit with Angel.
“It was a deal for chain stores. We worked out a deal,” he says, looking anywhere but at me.
“What did that deal entail?” I ask.
“That was a private matter. Maybe it’s best if you ask your dad about this,” he adds, slowly rising from his chair. I wave the gun in his face and shake my head. He remains sitting but reaches slowly for his top drawer as if I don’t see him.
“That gun you’re reaching for isn’t there,” I tell him. “Let’s do this another way. How about for every time you don’t tell me what I want to hear, I blow off a body part,” I tell him.
“Silas,” he begins, raising his hands. That works for me. I aim and fire, blowing his pinky off. He howls in pain, but he doesn’t live near anyone, so there’s no one to hear him scream.
“Shall we go for another?” I ask him. He’s grabbing his hand, holding it tightly, shaking his head.
“It was a business transaction!”
“Involving underage girls.” That got his attention. His head snaps up, his eyes locking with mine. “Why don’t you tell me who it was?”
“I-I-I don’t know who she was.”
“Then tell me the deal!” I roar this time. He jolts, but when he doesn’t answer me, I aim at him again.
“Okay! Your dad wanted the property to build his chain stores. I had the only way he could do it!”
“And the girl?” I ask him, becoming angrier by the second. My insides begin to shake, and I know I’m going to explode at any second. “The girl, motherfucker! Who was the fucking girl!” I roar this time.
Ron jolts when he opens his mouth to speak.
“I don’t know who she was. I didn’t ask questions. All I know is she was young.”
“And my dad? He knew about this, yes?”
“He’s the one who brought her to me.” That’s all I needed to know. Fury boils in my veins, and there’s no stopping it now. I move close and shove the gun into his mouth, making sure I angle it up toward his brain.
“Why a kid? Huh? You’re a sick fuck who will never look at another kid again,” I growl as I pull the trigger. The bullet rips through his head, spraying blood and brain matter all over the wall behind him. I’m breathing heavily, and when I pull back, I can’t stop myself. I shoot the motherfucker once more in the cock. I know he can’t feel it and that’s fine.
“That was for the little girl,” I say to the dead fucker. I turn on my heel and leave the house, climbing back in my car. I take a second to breathe and collect myself. Killing doesn’t bother me. That’s not what this is. Hearing him say it out loud is what’s pissing me off. He said it, he fucking said. My dad brought the girl, which means he knows who the fuck she is.
I take deep breaths through my nose, trying to settle myself. I pull out my cell and dial Rylan, putting it on speaker as I pull off.
“What’s up?”
“Meet me at Chaos.”
“What’s going on? You good?” No. I’m not good. Not at all.
“No, man. This is all kinds of fucked up. Get Levi and meet me there.”
“Okay. We’ll be there.” The line goes dead, and I speed all the way there. Of course, I arrive before the guys do.
When I enter, I spot Hunter. We lock eyes and he knows something is wrong.
“What do you need?” he asks, knowing I need something, although I don’t know what.
“Ry and Levi are on the way. We need to talk,” I answer him.
“You okay?”
“No, man. I’m not okay. I’m-I’m fucking losing my mind here.” I tug at my hair. Fuck. He knows this is bad. He slaps a hand on my shoulder before he walks off and comes back with some beers and hard liquor. Maybe that’s what I need. I need to numb my fucking mind. I need to numb everything before I lose it.
I take the beer and take it down before grabbing the bottle of liquor, too. I keep drinking until I hear Rylan and Levi. I turn my head and look over my shoulder at them, and they can tell instantly this isn’t going to be good. They both come and take a seat as Hoax joins us.
“This about what we talked about?” Hoax asks me. I nod my head. “Fuck.”
“Fuck is right. I’m going to say some shit, and I need you all to stay fucking calm because I don’t know if I can right now,” I admit. The guys agree, and I go on to tell them about the deal I made with Matt and what the fucking mayor said before I blew his fucking head off. I tell them about the girl and how my dad has to fucking know who it is.
They’re all pissed but not as much as me. And now I’m fucking drunk on top of that. I’m slamming bottles, busting chairs, tearing the fucking place apart with my bare hands. I’m not myself. I feel like a fucking fool for not knowing what my dad was up to.
I hit Levi and went after Hoax. I’m a complete fucking mess when they tackle my ass and drag me into the middle of the room. I’m losing control right now.
Hoax grabs my hands and secures them with a chain before they’re being yanked up above my head. I laugh fucking manically as Hunter and Rylan secure my ankles. I see Levi on the phone in the corner, but I don’t give a shit who he’s talking to.
“How? Huh? How the fuck did he do it with me right under his nose?” I scream louder this time. The guys step back and leave me hanging here. In the part of my mind that isn’t spiraling, I know it’s probably best for me right now.
“You couldn’t have known, Silas. He hid it well,” Rylan tells me.
“I should have fucking known, Ry! How the fuck didn’t I know? It was a kid! A little fucking girl!” And as I scream that, I’m thankful. I’m thankful I was an only child and I didn’t have a sister because God only knows what the fuck could have happened to her. But then there’s Tamsyn and Angel and all the other fucking princesses. It could have been any of them! Any one of them.
“We’ll handle it,” Rylan says.
“Will we? Will we handle your fucking dad, too, Rylan? Are we going to take out all the fucking leaders?” I roar this time. Hoax looks calm, maybe too calm.
“It isn’t a bad idea,” he offers.
“What?” Rylan asks him.
“Taking out all the leaders. It’s not a bad idea considering they’re all fucking twisted anyway,” he adds before taking a long pull of his beer.
“It’ll have to wait.”
“Till when?”
“After the ceremony when they’re all vulnerable. Everyone will be in over their heads dealing with that shit. We wait until after,” Rylan says. I agree that makes the most sense.
“How, Rylan? How the hell do you want me to live there and not kill him? Or look him in the eye and not claw them out of his fucking head?” I ask him. I hear commotion and I know exactly who’s voice that is. I look over Rylan’s shoulder and see Angel and Tamsyn.
“Where the fuck is he?” Angel yells before our eyes lock.
“You do it for her,” Rylan adds.
