I asked, “What? Why not?” Immy winked, “Uh tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. She was working on last minute things.” I wondered what that meant. Immy clearly thought it was fun whatever it was. Ken linked me later, “Your girlfriend has sex shop bags again.” I nearly choked on my water.
I replied, “Ken!” Ken snorted, “Hey, I’m just helping prepare you.
” I snorted, “Stop spying on my girlfriend.” Ken said, “Hey, not Katie walked through the lobby and didn’t try to hide the bag.
I don’t think she cares.” I snorted, “That name is really catching on.” Ken replied, “Yes, because we all know it’s not her name.
I’m heading out for the day, so hopefully Katie stays safe. ” Of course she would.
A little later Emmett growled. I asked, “What’s wrong?
” He sighed, “Lisa was arrested for trespassing, I guess. Malachi is going to look more into the situation. A pack member said the charges were dropped. He said it seemed weird.” I asked, “Why is it weird? Lisa has gone off the rails.” Emmett groaned, “Don’t I know it. ”
I tried to call Odette, but she didn’t answer. Given the hour, my mate was probably sleeping. I went out to the garage and worked to perfect my present. Mom came out and gasped. I quickly whirled around when she came over to my workspace.
Mom put her hands on it, “Keaton, this is beautiful. Is that Channing?” I nodded, “Yeah, Katie likes books, but her mom took the Supernatural ones away. I bought her the series she likes and a few other Supernatural themed books.”
I explained, “It’s technically a hanging bookshelf, but she could put other things on it.” I had carved the bookshelf and the half-moon over the side. There were mountains and then there was a wolf at the end, which was Channing.
Mom whispered, “You haven’t carved in years.” I smiled, “Well, Katie is making me dinner. Leon said he and his mate make each other personal gifts, and Katie inspires me. I had the idea and I just ran with it.” Mom asked, “Is this what you’ve been working on out here?”
I answered, “Yup.” Mom kissed the top of my head, “Well, I bet Katie will love this and the books. The bookshelf definitely more than the books. I’m so proud of you, it looks incredible.” I gave her a hug, “Thanks, mom.” I sat back down and put the final touches on my gift.
I kept making little changes until Emmett came out. My big brother sat down smiling, “This is amazing, Keaton. When Alexandria sees it, she’ll want one. With Lightning instead of Channing.” I smiled, “If Katie likes it then I could do that.”
Emmett winked, “You mean OdKatie. Malachi is certain he’s narrowed her real name down.” I told him, “Just let it go.” Emmett tilted his head back laughing. Eventually, he gathered himself, “You think my Beta is going to let that go?” I sighed, “No.”
Emmett grinned, “Here are his guesses, Odella, Odette, Oda, and Odessa. See, I think it’s Odette because it just matches her.” Yes, it did but I showed him nothing. Emmett stood, “I’m definitely right though, not Katie will love the gift.”
I muttered, “Lisa would hate it.” Emmett snorted, “What doesn’t she hate?” I asked, “Did you ever figure that thing out with her getting arrested?” Emmett frowned, “Not exactly.” I shrugged and let it go. I didn’t care about Lisa anymore.
The next day everyone was buzzing about the event my mom and Ted held at the pack. They’d held it every year since my mom became Luna, after Ted and Matt got married. No one expected me at said event anymore since I hadn’t gone since Lisa and I started dating.
Maybe I should’ve invited Odette over for it.
Channing said, “You just aren’t ready for that step, it’s ok.
” I told him, “I just don’t want to live in fear, but you’re right.
I’m not ready.” Channing said, “Our family will wait until we are.” I snorted, “Or just show up, like Emmett did, to meet her.” Channing conceded, “Or that.”
I put my present for Odette in my truck and headed out.
I slammed on my breaks when Lisa appeared behind my truck.
I got out and slammed the door shut. I shouted, “Are you INSANE?! I could’ve killed you!
” Channing grumbled, “We should’ve. People saw her get behind the truck, it was hardly our fault. ”
Lisa asked, “Well, you didn’t come find me at all day. I don’t know what you got me yet.” My mind stalled. Channing sighed, “She is actually delusional.” I already knew that. I answered my ex slowly like she was a pup who was being taught to look before crossing the street.
Eventually I said, “Nothing. Because we are not dating.” Lisa shrieked, “Yes, we are! We are meant to be together, we always were!” I argued, “We aren’t, but I’ll bite.
What did you get me?” Lisa’s jaw dropped, “You know Valentine’s Day isn’t about you.
You get me presents, not the other way around.
” I snorted, “Typical, I’m leaving.” Lisa yelled, “No you aren’t! ” I heard a growl behind us.
To my astonishment it was Malachi. The Beta of the pack said, “Lisa, you don’t want to get between me and my plans with MY mate. Get out of Keaton’s way.” Lisa sneered, “This isn’t your business.” I warned, “Don’t you ever talk to him like that again!” Channing shifted on a dime and snarled at her.
Malachi said, “Channing, it’s fine.” Channing snapped his jaws. Kincade Famer called, “Channing, I’m here too. It will be ok.” Lisa scoffed, “He won’t hurt me.” Malachi shouted, “Shut up!” Channing lunged and bit her, hard enough to break the skin.
Lisa screamed, “How dare you!” Colton chuckled, “You were warned. Stopped messing with an Alpha blood, Lisa. You’ll lose your life. Keaton, shift back.” Channing huffed, “I should’ve gone for the bone.” I shifted back and someone snapped clothes on me.
Malachi pursed his lips, “By the way Lisa, you’ll be running a border patrol at night for the next month as their shadow. Would you care to make that two months?” Lisa shrieked, “Keaton, do something Your wolf bit me, and Malachi is being unreasonable!”
I offered, “I’d go for six months, Malachi. Oh and Lisa, his name is Beta Malachi to you.” Lisa started crying and reached for me. Kincade and Colton stopped her, but Channing had already taken over to jump into my truck to avoid her touch.
I asked, “What the hell Channing?” Channing answered, “I don’t know, it was just an instinct.” Ok then. I demanded, “Move, Lisa.” Lisa screamed, “No.” Colton shrugged, “Run her over, Keaton.” Malachi groaned then took over and had to physically remove Lisa from behind my truck. I took off.
I linked him, “Thanks, Malachi.” He replied, “No problem. Now your ex needs to calm down so I can get to Adlee.” I linked Colton, “Don’t you have plans?” Colton replied, “I’m on my way now. I told Malachi to let her scream down the pack.” I nearly laughed.
Colton’s Beta was probably on the way to help given Kincade had left as well.
Malachi did do me a favor, and Adlee awesome.
Really Adlee was the nicest she wolf. Unless someone tried to mess with her plans, then she was cutthroat.
I linked her, “Hi, Adlee.” She answered, “This is a surprise. Hi, Keaton.”
I said, “Well, I wanted to help. I know you don’t like your plans being interrupted.
” Adlee growled, “Alexandria has Emmett tied up, quite literally, all evening. What could’ve happened?
!” I said, “Wow. That was too much information. Though I’m definitely giving Emmett shit about that.
Lisa was keeping Malachi from getting to you when I drove off. ”
Adlee yelled, “That fucking bitch! I’ll handle it.” I said, “Thanks! I hope you have a good Valentine’s Day.” Adlee confidently stated, “Oh, I will. I’m going to sic my grandmother in law on that wicked bitch.” I laughed knowing Isabella would get Lisa for sure.
I drove to Odette’s place, took the stairs to get their faster, then knocked when I arrived at her door. Immy answered the door as Odette ran out of her room. My mate looked at Immy, perplexed. Immy smiled, “I got the dish out of the oven, and I opened the door for Keaton.”
Odette asked, “But how did you…?” My mate quickly stopped herself. They were looking at each other, but I was looking at Odette’s outfit. Channing agreed, “Who cares what they are talking about? LOOK AT MATE!” I was.
Odette had on ripped skinny jeans and a red sweater with white hearts. She looked amazing. I blinked at her and lost my voice. Odette had red lipstick on too. God, why was that so hot? Channing growled in my head. Immy announced, “I’ll just be leaving. Have fun.”
The second the door shut I grabbed Odette and pulled her into me. I kissed her hard on the lips. When I pulled back, she whispered, “Happy Valentine’s Day, Key.” I kissed her lightly before replying, “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
Odette smiled, “I made lasagna and cheese bread from scratch.” I looked around the apartment. I observed, “You also decorated.” Odette giggled, “Immy did.” I nodded, “It looks great.” She sat me at the table and then put everything on plates.
The food was really good. I told her, “You did an amazing job.” Odette smiled, “I had to learn how to cook, but I’ve never made lasagna before.” I leaned over and kissed her, “Well I wouldn’t have known, because it was wonderful.” My mate blushed, “Thank you.”
I linked Ken, “I left Katie’s present in my truck. Can you bring it up?” Ken snorted, “Yup.” I asked, “Do you have any plans tonight?” Ken answered, “Later, yes.” I said, “Well, I hope you enjoy it.” A few minutes later Ken knocked on the door.
I opened it and he came through with the wrapped gift. Odette gasped, “What on earth did you do?” I nervously admitted, “I made a gift for my girl.” Odette’s eyes filled with tears, “You made me something? Made it? For me? Really? No one has ever made me anything.”
