Activating #6

Emmett snorted, “Little brother, it’s not a secret May will be yours at the end of the month. Dad coordinated the Summit dates with Eric to make sure we’d be back for her birthday. Originally, the Summit was happening over her birthday.”

Keith asked, “It was?” Emmett said, “Yes, keeping mate secrets is superfluous. We know when our family has locked onto their mate.” He looked directly at me as he said it.

I opened my mouth when someone screamed.

Emmett snarled, “Do they have a radar for when you’re about to talk to me? ” I snorted, “No.”

We jumped off of Keith’s balcony and found the border patrol fighting rogues. I snorted and linked Keith, “Of course it’s Lisa. Why is it ALWAYS Lisa?” Keith sighed, “Because even rogues want her gone. Let’s just give her to them, life will be better.”

I killed a rogue and Lisa tried to jump on me. Channing dodged her though. The attack was handled. What was going on with these random rogue attacks? I linked Emmett, “Do you need me? I was heading to Katie’s.” Emmett answered, “We are under control here, go ahead.”

Lisa yelled my name as I left. Torque was literally rolling his eyes at her.

Honestly, he seemed relieved that she wasn’t his.

I wondered what Annie had said to get him to agree to try with Lady and Lisa.

It would have to be one hell of an argument.

Which didn’t surprise me. Annie was studying to be a lawyer.

She’s always been quite adept at persuading people to her argument.

When I made it back to Odette’s, she was already asleep.

I snuggled in next to my mate who sighed contentedly into me.

Before I knew it, it was time for Keith and me to run things while Emmett was away.

I’d told Odette that Emmett was leaving me in charge of everything while he took Alexandria to a super important meeting.

Which meant I wouldn’t be able to spend the night.

Odette was sad, but we still saw each other at school.

I spent as much time with her as I could.

I was watching my mate carefully making sure she didn’t look pale or anything.

Odette looked a little tired, but she wasn’t pale. That helped me and Channing relax.

What was not helping me relax was Lisa causing a problem so I’d have to see her. My ex kept trying to touch me, but Channing refused to let her get near us. My wolf still didn’t know why that was his instinctual reaction. Lisa would cry every time he shirked away from her.

I finally had to go for a drive to clear my head because my ex was driving me crazy. I groaned, “Why did I date her for so long? What the hell is wrong with me?” Channing answered, “No one but us is in the truck to answer.” My wolf was right.

I pulled over and sat there with my eyes closed for a bit. I got out and shifted into Channing for a quick run. I felt ready to handle Lisa’s shenanigans again. I got back to the truck, put my clothes on, and turned the key. I looked down and saw Odette had called.

I called her back, “Hey Od….” My mate cut me off, “Where are you?” I answered, “I’m driving back to my place, I just need some fresh air. What’s wrong?” Odette sounded frantic, “You need to pull over or something. I don’t know. Wait for me.” I was immediately concerned.

I asked, “Are you driving? On the road?” My mate shouted, “Yes! Just pull over.” Channing said, “You know I love mate, but she not a good driver Keaton.” I laughed saying to both, “We’ve only had one lesson. So, I think you need to pull over, my Song.”

Odette groaned, “I can’t. Look I know this is bat crap crazy, but you’re in danger.

I don’t know how I know that. I just do and oh thank god.

I see you. How did I know where you were?

I don’t have a SINGLE clue. I just knew I had to be here.

Which is just plain old crazy. Sassy is crazy and LOOK OUT! ” Sassy? What the hell?

I looked out my window and saw why Odette was worried. An SUV was coming barreling towards me from a blind spot in the road. I heard Odette scream, “KEATON!” As the SUV hit my driver side door at high speed. I’d slowed down because of Odette’s warning.

I saw several rogues before everything went dark, my body screaming in pain. I felt like I was fighting an invisible force. I needed to get out of my truck and help Odette. My mate couldn’t fight wolves. Who the hell crashed into my truck?

Beep. That was annoying. Beep. Beep. Why wasn’t that shutting up? What the hell was that? Beep. I linked, “Channing?” What in my truck made that obnoxious sound? My wolf didn’t answer right away. Eventually he said, “Keaton.”

I grunted, “Buddy, I know this hurts, but we’ve got to open our eyes. Mate needs us.” Channing growled, “MATE!” I opened my eyes and sat up. Someone yelled, “He’s awake!” Hands were trying to hold me down.

I snarled, “GET OFF ME!” I looked around.

I asked, “Where the FUCK am I? Who are you people? WHERE is Katie?!” A nurse answered, “You’re at the hospital.

” I stared at her before asking, “Why?” The nurse answered, “You were in an accident, and your friend brought you here.” I wanted to scream in frustration.

I linked Keith, “Why, dear god why, am I at a human hospital?” Channing snarled, “I am telling Stone that I will shift if he does not get here soon. We need to get to mate!” Agreed. Though shifting was not the best idea. Channing growled, “I don’t care.”

Keith answered, “KEATON! Thank god, I’m coming. I’m practically there. Stone says Channing wants to shift, don’t do that.” Channing scoffed. Why didn’t Keith know where I was? Didn’t Odette call him? Surely, she’d call Immy.

I asked the humans again, “Where is my girlfriend? She was behind me on the road.” The nurse sighed, “Ummm she’s not here.” Channing warned, “Keaton, I will shift.” I frowned asking, “Why isn’t she here in my room? Is she hurt?” Channing roared and my fingernails elongated.

The nurse quickly said, “No, no she was fine. Quite insistent we help you, but she was perfectly fine.” Channing settled and my fingernails returned to normal. Thank god, no one noticed that. I growled, “Then why isn’t she in this room?”

A cop entered the room answering, “She’s been arrested.” I yelled, “WHAT?! You arrested her?! Why would you do that?” Channing demanded, “Kill him.” The cop explained, “Ms. Karlton doesn’t have a license, or a learners permit, and she was driving exceptionally poorly.”

I gritted my teeth, “I’m giving her lessons.” Another cop chuckled, “You might be a very bad instructor.” Channing added to his murder board, “Kill him too. WE CAN DRIVE OUR MATE AROUND! SHE DOES NOT NEED LESSONS WHEN WE HAVE A LICENSE!”

I ground out to the cops, “We’ve only had one lesson. Katie’s a bit touchy on the break.” The cop snorted, “She’s a bit heavy on the gas. Ms. Karlton was going fifty miles over the speed limit, running all the stop signs, and traffic lights.”

“She hit several curbs; I’m moderately impressed she didn’t pop a tire. That’s the car, not her though. Ms. Karlton hit several things too. Several yield signs are no more. Businesses signage was among the wreckage as well.”

I growled, “You arrested her.” Channing reasoned, “Which we should KILL THEM FOR THAT AND LEAVE! We need to get mate OUT of jail. She’s probably scared, Keaton.

” That pissed me all the way off. The cop said, “We had to arrest her.” Channing disagreed, “No, they did not have to, but I do HAVE to RIP THEIR HEADS OFF!”

I asked, “Is Katie in jail right now?” The cop admitted, “Yes, considering we can’t get ahold of her mother. I’ve been told Ms. Karlton says she’ll call her lawyer as soon as we get her word on you. She has mentioned several times her brother would come.”

The other added, “Apparently, she just doesn’t have his number. Ms. Karlton said she needs her phone to contact him; however, she’s not allowed to have her phone considering it’s been confiscated. We also can’t find her brother on the record. So, we are pretty sure she’s lying.”

I growled, “She’s not lying.” They looked surprised. I demanded, “Get Katie out of jail RIGHT NOW!” Channing was snarling in my head. My arm was killing me for some reason. Channing snorted, “I will SHIFT AND IT WILL BE FINE!”

The nurse said, “We had to pop your shoulder back into place so it’s going to be sore. Just keep still.” To the cops she practically spat acid, “Do not upset my patient or I’ll kick you out.” Channing said, “Ok, she can live.”

The cop asked, “What happened?” I said, “Someone hit me, and my truck rolled. Shit! How’s my truck?” Channing warned, “I cannot tell you how little I care about that vehicle. Our families wolves want me to be reasonable when they are the ones BEING UNREASONABLE!”

Emmett stormed into the room with my dad. My brother answered, “It’s totaled. I’ll buy you a new one.” Grandpa Frank was right behind them with Keith and mom. Mom ran to me, “Oh my baby. I’ll call Haley and…”

I interrupted, “I’m fine.” Mom snorted, “I don’t care. I want him out of here now, Chase. No one even called us, and I’m furious.” Dad nodded, “Matt is working on that.” I growled, “I want someone to get Katie OUT of jail.”

The cop sighed, “We have more questions.” I snarled, “Until you let MY GIRLFRIEND out of jail for getting me here then I have NOTHING to say! All she’s guilty of is trying to help me.” Channing warned, “I’m pretty sure this officer wants me to kill him despite the wolves in the room disagreeing.”

Emmett linked, “Channing needs to find chill.” I snorted, “Chill doesn’t exist right now, Emmett.” My brother sighed. The cop said, “She could’ve called 9-1-1.” I scoffed, “So, you’re punishing Katie because she panicked?! LET HER OUT JAIL RIGHT NOW!”

The cop snorted, “Maybe get her more lessons and license. We can’t just let Ms. Karlton out of jail.” Channing agreed, “He’s right, he can’t let mate out because he will be DEAD SOON!” Dad said, “Keaton, calm down. Your grandpa and Isaac are on their way to get her out.”
